we want to transform the movieclip inside the textfield. if transform, textfield text shouldn't resize.
I'm just creating a movieclip from a text field object on the stage, giving it an instance name and setting some timeline animated over and out states for it. I'm then setting it up in AS3 to work like a button, so nothing complicated at all. But I am getting errors I have never seen before. Code is very simple basically I have a button called 'hair' contained within the mc 'menu', here it is:

So I noticed there are some new text options in CS5, but none of them give the result I want. If I leave this as the (now default) TLF text, it gives a couple of errors related to this no longer being a movieclip;

If I change it to classic, there are no errors, but the gotoAndPlay does not work. If I change the text to outlines, it works as per normal.
I very often use animated text (rather for menu titles than paragraphs) in my flash works and the render of fonts is usually quite irregular. What I now do is convert the alphabet + figures of the font I am using to vectors (Ctrl + B) on the scene and then make movieclips with each letter, which I store in the library ready for AS to call them. The rendering quality is comparably better. The truth is I've never had to make more than, say 50 clips "by hand", but it would still make my life easier and save me dull time/work if there was a way with AS to transform a text field to vectors...

Somehow, when I change the position of the points on the left side of the object, the object rotates during the shape tween; if I change the position of the points on the left side, everything goes the way it should be. View 3 RepliesI'm having trouble with loading in an external image that I can transform with the Senocular Transform Tool class. I have managed to load in the picture but the transform class doesn't seem want to grab it. Eventually I want to us the FileRef to upload the image but I just need to figure out how it works first. Here my code to load in the external image

The transform class can grab the other movieclips but it doesn't want to grab the new image loaded in from the code above.
This has served me well, but I've been designing a new sight and wanted to get more into Action Script to control functions to help improve both my programming and keep my file size down.
So I decided to create an instance of a block (rectangle shape as another movieclip) and have multiple layers. One which controls the actions of two other blocks. The upper most block would not be visable until I ran the cursor over it (increase its Alpha property from 0 to 100 one step at a time in a loop). This would reverse when the cursor ran off (reduce Alpha property from 100 [or less] back to 0 in a loop).
I've read and re-read every flash book I own on the subject and cannot understand why I can't control another instance of a different movieclip.
I am trying to create two actions, one when my mouse is over my button and two when my i click my button, I am having a bit of trouble with my action script below, any advise:

In AS2 I need code for a button, on the main timeline, to go to a frame in a mc off the main time line. I have attached a picture of the time lines in case I have not articulated my needs well.

If I laterapply a color transform to one of the clips, it plays through allthe frames and goes back to it's correct frame. Why does it dothat, and can I stop it from doing that?

I created a movie clip and I want it to changecolor by as3 . There is no problem with that but when I try to import my image in the movieclip, the color goes over it so I can't see it.
View 1 RepliesI have a movieclip where I create a child display object (another MovieClip) in the constructor and show it with addChild();. However, later on in the code I modify the tint of the parent MovieClip using colorTransform. The child object then vanishes. Even if I do a removeChild/addChild after the tinting, it does not show. I don't understand why this is happening.. tint should just modify the color of everything, not hide children, right? See attached code for the way I am showing the child and changing the tint.
View 4 RepliesI'm trying to set the rtBtn to 100% alpha after the tableButton has been pressed by the user. Currently rtBtn is living on the stage and set to 25% alpha. I've gotten all the other parts of this code to work, except the color transform. I imagine I'm declaring it improperly.... any suggestions? Just transitioning into object orient programming and I got stuck trying to create textField using static function. I searched online about this and none of them were useful. I dont want this to be just public function because then I cant access this function from other classes. I would like every classes to access this function so I need it to be static.

I'm trying to create hyperlinks within TextFields by using a combination of plain text and the getCharIndexAtPoint method of the TextField object.
I've got everything nailed down except for the handCursor. To solve this problem I decided to place the TextField within a Sprite container and have the MOUSE_MOVE event attached to the TextField signal to its parent [Sprite container] that it should modify its buttonMode, useHandCursor, and mouseChildren properties to allow the hand cursor to be displayed, which I'm happy to say does work.
Unfortunately when I set the mouseChildren to false and the buttonMode and useHandCursor to true. The TextField within the Sprite container stops tracking the mouse...which I understand why but was wondering if there's some other combination that would allow me to do what I need to do?

I need to make textfields appear that display a number. It's for making score numbers pop up out of enemies. I can create a single textfield that displays the appropriate number but I don't understand how I can set up variables in it. If I've created a textfield, how can I then remove it after a certain amount of time? It doesn't make sense to me since the textfield only seems to exist as an instance and not an object I can refer to.

I have a textField with a lot of stuff in it, so I'm creating a scroller using a mask. To do the math to make the scroller work right, I need the height of the textField. But the stuff in it is retrieved from XML and the length of it varies when it is updated, which is quite often. Is there a way I can find the height of just the text in the textField?
View 1 RepliesI have a Bubble with a dynamic Text Field in the middle of it. I create multiple of these and have them float up. If you click it, I want the bubble to pop. Everything works, but only if you click the bubble at the edges. If you click in the middle, I get this error:

I'm creating a menu bar that is a movieclip and inside the movieclip consists of the buttons.Now the menu bar is twice as WIDE as what is visible on the stage.The only part you can see is the text 'menu' on a bar.Then when the mouse hits the bar, it flies across the screen to the otherside of the bar where the menu buttons are.Now the menu bar does its animation over 20 frames - the last frame being the frame where the menu buttons are now visible.
