ActionScript 3.0 :: HitTest Works But Also Returns Error
Sep 5, 2009Perhaps I should leave well enough alone, but it bugs me that my hitTest gives me an error message even though it seems to work as intended. I have two movieClips running side by side. The second clip, the hitTest object is actually in an array that I keep pushing every second.

I have tried to trace cars[i].name and it returns "instance XXX" instead of what I would have expected, which would have been something like cars1, cars2, etc... If that is creating the error, I don't know how to fix it. I have thought also that perhaps the array itself is being referenced, but again I wouldn't know how to change it.
ActionScript 3.0 :: DropDown Returns Null Error
Feb 2, 2011I'm making a list of alarms to pick from. I've googled for answers the past two days but I cannot figure out what my problem is with this batch of code.
I've got 7 items in the menu and the dropdown works good as long as you do not select the item that is already displayed in the menu. You can select another item and then reselect the original item, but I get error "Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference." from

Flex :: Connection Between Java / Using Blazeds Returns Error #2048
May 4, 2011I have been developing an application(a website to be more precise) which consists of a flex front end which is constantly sending and receiving data from the back end which is programmed in java. The connection between the two components is being done through blazeds. This worked fine while I was running it locally, however when I uploaded both sides of the application to a tomcat server(online) the following error is being returned when a connection between the components should occur:URL...I have read around about this error and many seem to getting this error when making connections between different servers, unlike here, where the connection is occurring within the same server.

Nov 4, 2011I have a load file and a write to file method. We all know what they do. How ever load always returns true and write always returns false....Right there you know somethings wrong. Because The forums have an issue with me posting code...I posted it here: [URL] Based on this code what is the issue here? why is write always returning false and why is load always returning true? (even for files that do not exist). My understanding is that if flash cannot find the file it should write to it will create it and if it cant load said file, then that method should return false.

But when I add a simple MC to the up state of the button, flash gives me this error: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at BtnWithMCinside_fla::MainTimeline/frame18() The 'mc within a button' method has worked great until that button is placed beyond the first frame. why this is happening and how to fix it? Flex :: Error When The Scroller Of The Mx:Tree With Custom Renderers Is Scrolled?
Aug 24, 2010I have created a custom multiline item renderer for mx:Tree component. Important to mention that my item renderer has two UITextFields in it. Sometimes (depends of the input data) only one of UITextFields must be shown, so when second UITextField is not needed I hide it and recalculate the height of my item renderer. According to my tests height is calculated properly.The problem occures when I do scroll of my tree. The error text is:

ActionScript 2.0 :: Menu Navigation System - Dropdown Appears And Returns When The Dropdown Returns
Jul 15, 2004I'm having with a menu navigation system. I'm using Flash MX. I have created a menu system for the site I'm building ([URL]) where one of the buttons "Choose photographer" drops down a list of names. All the other buttons just jump to another page. The drop down is currently using tweens also the logo moves to the left as the dropdown appears and returns when the dropdown returns. All working fine apart from its a bit jerky.
It's I just wanted to get away from tweening and use action scripts instead, as I'm a newbie to all things Flash I trawled the net for tutorials and examples so that I could cobble together the exact same effect. I have managed to get the drop down work and return using the action script and it does seem smoother and works slightly better. But can I get the logo to move to the left and back in time with the drop down...no.

I'm trying to connect to AMFPHP on a server (with Flash AS3), and the swf borks when it reaches the .connect() stage. To make things easier (?) and more reusable (?), I've put all the NetConnection mechanics into a separate class, AMFConnection, which I call from the Main document class like this (details changed):

AMFConnection actually starts the connection and calls the AMFPHP service with the function gogogo(), and here's where the connect() NetConnection function just won't work. Here's the main section of the AMFConncection class

It also fails to display the stage, instead showing the loading dots. Now, eventually I'm going to move this application to the same server as the AMFPHP service, but even when I try it there with a relative url, instead of an absolute one, it still breaks down at connect(). I've tried changing the publish settings from local only to network only, to no avail.

Feb 3, 2011I have a swf file "website.swf" on my desktop computer, in the www directory of my wamp server. The website loads the swf file fine.I have one textbox that i want to be able to load all the different contents of my site depending on the page, and in the same directory, I have all the different txt files (i.e. news.txt about.txt portfolio.txt etc)Now, when I'm running the swf file in Flash CS5, it makes me allow it and then works fine. However, once I publish and put it on the server, and then go to the website it returns "Error 2048". I've tried doing the crossdomain.xml suggestions to no avail.

Aug 9, 2008I am working on a school project that requires me to load external .swf or .jpg files. I currently have all of the buttons working and are loading an external .swf file on to the screen. The problem I am having is that when I go from one button to the next the loaded .swf stays on the screen and the next .swf gets loaded on top of it. I know that I need to unload the file but I am not sure where to put the code for the unload or what code exactly to use. I would like when the button is pressed to unload the previous loaded .swf and load the new .swf without having a separate button to unload.

Feb 5, 2007I have a flash file, and in it is a movieclipbutton. When you roll over the button, the button has to grow in size and change color. This animation is 10 frames long. When you roll out, the button goes back to it's original size and color, this animation is also 10 frames. But when you roll out of the button before the 10 frames of roll over animation are finished, the movie jumps to the rollout animation, which starts with the button in grown size; so you see a little jump in size. To fix this, I did the following for the onRollOut:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Carriage Returns In XML Attributes?

I don't have access to change the schema.
In Flash I load the text content of the title attribute into a text field, problem is -- the prints instead of operating as a carriage return (new line).
Again, no access to the XML so changing the TextField to htmlText and adding a <br/> tag wont work.
