Is it possible to add a dropdown inside a TextArea?
I need to do this because I need to automatically add a scroll-bar if dynamic text exceeds height of TextArea and I understand that I cannot add a scroll-bar to a Rectangular Sprite Object.
I have a 'dropdown' menu (that actually goes up...) with 4 buttons inside of it. The menu's bg is just a movieclip containing the buttons. The problem is, when you mouse over a button the dropdown menu retracts. How do I get flash to consider the buttons to be part of the background, so it doesn't think you're mousing out when you try to hover over the buttons?Heres a link to the FLA and some of the code. 1) Flash environment starts (as3 code base)
2) Flash receives data from xml
3) PHP tool inserts a dropdown menu of choices into flash environment.
4) Player selects from dropdown
5) PHP captures selections and writes to xml
So first of all, I dont want to do this another way, it has to be exactly like that. Now that having been said, i have accomplished the first two steps. Here is the extremely basic xml i am working with:

This stores 3 string id codes which flash loads up. Inside of flash i load those three values and use them to index movieclips to their correct frame. This is done.
So now i need to write a PHP tool that creates three dropboxes on the flash stage, each box should list red, blue and yellow. When the player makes a selection in the dropbox the PHP tool needs to alter the three xml entries to record the player choice. Can you do this with PHP? Or do the dropdown boxes HAVE to be in AS3 and the PHP just be about transferring the data only? As a bonus, as the player makes his choices the PHP tool would update the variables in flash so the images change without rebooting the flash envronment..
i inserted a dateField component.on clicking it displays calender, i would like to add 2 comboboxes, i shows hours(0 to 23) other for minutes (0 to 59) to calender so tht the user can select the time along with the date and that wil be displayed in the text input as date and Time. one more thing i would like to add is clear button to clear the selected date to the calender.
View 1 RepliesI have a text area control on a form that is supposed to accept 5 digit US zip codes. I have assigned the control a keyUp event that checks the number of characters entered until it reaches 5 then forces a new line.

It works fine except that when the new line is inserted, the cursor moves to the beginning of the textarea. I want it to go to the end.
Any clues on how to have it so the text inside a textarea can be outlined, no matter what it is, through actionscript? Or some other sneaky way? I'm not talking about using the ink tool and such, a more complex way is what I'm looking for...

1). Copy and paste multiple-line texts.
2). Write long and scroll the texts.
I also found another working example at: [URL]. (The autocomplete prompt appears when you press ctrl+space right at the caret's position). But an email from its author says he uses monotype fonts to calculate individual character's location. Is there a way to get multi-line input from a textfield?
Is it possible to display an html <table> as a table inside an dynamic textarea using .htmlText method ?
And an additional question: is there any other way to display a table inside a text ?
I've wrote a custom itemrenderer for a List component (Flex 3.5) which is a VBox with a Label and a TextArea wrapped inside. All works fine so far but I want the TextArea in the first itemrenderer to receive focus so that it instantly becomes editable when tabbing onto the List. Is that possible and if how would I achieve this?
I've already added an event listener that selects the item at index 0 but the textArea in it should also be focussed at that moment _list.addEventListener(FocusEvent.FOCUS_IN, onListFocusIn);

View 2 RepliesI'm having with a menu navigation system. I'm using Flash MX. I have created a menu system for the site I'm building ([URL]) where one of the buttons "Choose photographer" drops down a list of names. All the other buttons just jump to another page. The drop down is currently using tweens also the logo moves to the left as the dropdown appears and returns when the dropdown returns. All working fine apart from its a bit jerky.
It's I just wanted to get away from tweening and use action scripts instead, as I'm a newbie to all things Flash I trawled the net for tutorials and examples so that I could cobble together the exact same effect. I have managed to get the drop down work and return using the action script and it does seem smoother and works slightly better. But can I get the logo to move to the left and back in time with the drop down...no.

But if I rollout of any of the things from the dropdown menu, it stays at Image 2 (Frame 3)with the dropdown menu visible. Which is a problem...I want to be able to rollout of these buttons to revert back to the homepage, Image 1 (Frame 1).But, for instance, telling "Graphic Design" to go to Frame 1 on rollout means that if I try to go below "Graphic Design" to "Photography," I've rolled out--and so the rest of the menu disappears.So I want to roll be able to select anything from the dropdown menu, and only rollout to Frame 1 if I go outside the entire dropdown menu, not just one button.

Unfortunately, when I start placing text in this text area. Either through code or user input, the text will be placed on a new line after about 80-100 pixels. Yet I want it to start a new line after 320 pixels (it's length).
Is it possible to save text of textarea in some variable or so and with its textformat (more than one color) and then reuse it to replace text in textarea?
I tried saving htmlText of textarea but the problem is when i replace it in textarea <p> tags causes problem.There will always be another extra line.

If anyone wants to view p tags problem try following. Just click on text and then move your down arrow key, cursor will go to next line.

My question is in relation to AS3 dropdowns. You can check the page at: http:[url].....Under the "Visitors" and "Media" links, there are mouseover dropdown menus. You'll notice that they stick a little bit, and to make them go back up, you really have to hit very specific hit areas. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
View 2 RepliesMy problem is, that i have a flash banner, with a menu above it. The menu has a dropdown though, and in internet explorer 7 the dropdown shows behind the flash banner. I've tried everything (what I know of, and what I have found here on stackoverflow), but nothing seems to do the trick.

I've tried to change the wmode to transparent and opaque, but it didn't work. Just to make sure, I did this by adding a <param value="transparent" name="wmode"> in the object tag, and then add the attribute wmode="transparent".

I have a css drop down menu on the header portion of my website and the flash movie plays on the center of the site. The problem is, when the drop down menu is clicked it goes under the flash movie so that people can't see what is on the menu. Not sure if this is something that can be adjusted on the parameters of the movie or not?

Now will this require the visitor to have JavaScript enabled, I'm just a little cautious as I want the links in the drop down to be available to everyone, and if they do need Javascript enabled how do i get round this.....

The first section of script works properly but when I mouse over the other buttons the error message above is what I get. Did I not label something correctly??
Short version: ComboBox's dropdown works and renders properly before fullscreen, but not during or after. I'm not totally sure how to ask this, so I've actually made a page demonstrating the error, with a very simple Flex app, and all three directions you need to experience the problem yourself.
For those of you not daring enough to follow my link above, I'll do my best to explain here. I've built a rather extensive Flex application (not the one in the link) that has some graphs and charts and checkboxes and other controls for those charts. At the bottom of app in a few of the application States, there is a ComboBox (like a <select> tag in HTML). Because this is at the very bottom, when you click it to access it's dropdown menu, Flex thoughtfully has it come out of the top.
