View 3 RepliesI'm loading an XML file into a dynamic text field. The information needs to look like a table, meaning that there are distinct columns. Here's basically what I need:
Code:
Item 1 Some Info Time
Item 36 Some more Info Time
Right now, I'm accomplishing this by inserting the correct amount of whitespace like this:
ActionScript Code:
for (i = 0; i < maxLength - myString.length; i++){
myTextField.htmlText += " ";
}
This works fine, but only with mono space fonts which are ugly. Is there another/better way to accomplish this?
I have a dynamic text box that is loading in a text file. It seems to be doing this perfectly well. However, some HTML tags seem to break it. <b> makes the text dissapear. I tried doing a <span> on it, and changing the font-family with CSS, but I dont think its reading the CSS at all.

I have problem when loading gallery from external swf [URL] to [URL] into portfolio. Pictures are cut on left bottom side.
View 0 RepliesBasically I have a textfield that will have a fixed width and wrap the text, which will be passed to it dynamically. Since the text will be dynamic,there's no guarantee of how many lines the text will take up.Directly underneath that textfield i have another text field that will also take dynamic text. Think of it as a title and a subtitle.so I'll have something like this:
Code:
var title:TextField = new TextField();
var subtitle:TextField = new TextField();
title.wordWrap = true;
[code]....
and probably others that I'm forgetting. Getting it to work with a single line of text isn't really a problem, but as soon as the text begins to wrap to multiple lines, everything i've tried seems to fall apart.
I've been trying to load an XML file into a dynamically created text field so i started of working on an example of Flash Help.
In the XML of the example there is an hyperlink which doesn't work. It appears as a hyperlink but when you click on it isn't working.
Its a simple matter of loading text from a text file named "data" into a dynamic field. The code in the frame itself is
loadText = new LoadVars();
loadText.load("data.txt");
loadText.onLoad = function() {
name.text = this.name;
};
The thing is that the SWF file I load the text into (called "RASHI.swf"). I loaded into another SWF file called "index.swf". My site is based on this tutorial [URL]. When I run "RASHI.swf" on my PC everything is fine and the text is loaded but when I run "index.swf" (again, on my PC, not the web) it says "Undefined".
I'm trying to load a simple variable &myVar from a php file into my flash movie, that's a blank movie with just actionscript in it.I tried to load this &myVar into a dynamic Text field and it works fine, but I can't get this value into a flash variable to manipulate it with actionscript.. Must be simple.. My actionscript it
PHP Code:
$x = "abc";print "&myVar=$x";
How to get the myVar value into a FLASH VARIABLE?
display arabic font from right to left in a dynamic text when loading from a xml/.txt file
View 1 RepliesI'm loading a external text file to flash and according to the number present in the text file i'm trying to do a IF - ELSE command. It's not working coz the value I load from the external file is string. How can i get this as intiger.
View 2 RepliesI can't get the code to "know" which of the dynamic thumbnails has been clicked (by "know", I mean return an index value, say 0 through 7 if there are 8 projects, that I can use to access that particular project in the array of 8 projects in the rest of the code)... So if the third movieclip thumbnail were clicked, I'd like "2" to come up somehow... I've tried this code, which is kind of lame, I know, based off of the idea of each of the thumbnail movieclips' names ending in their index number:
Code:
//"this" is the button that was pressed; would return a string ending in
//thumberMC_<number of whichever movieclip thumb was clicked>
var: testString:String = this;
[code]....
Lastly, there's a dynamic textfield I'm trying to create that never shows up for some reason. Again, you could see in the FLA (in the "createDrawer" function around line 424).
I'm relatively new to Actionscript, in fact, I just figured out today how to load text from an external source. I have another issue that I'm not sure how to handle. I have buttons for my main nav, a main text box, and a mini text box (both text boxes are loaded dynamically from external files). I want to have the mini text box load new external text files in the main text box. For instance, I have a button for music, which loads a list of songs in the mini text box. I want to be able to click on the name of one of the songs and have it load the lyrics in the main text box. I'm sure it's simple, I'm just new.

View 3 RepliesI need help dynamically loading text from a server into a dynamic text box in my movie. If i use the loadVariables it works, with the Html rendering.. if i use it with loadVars it works but now the html doesn't render. What i want is to load some text from my server into the text box and have the html to render. Also, is there a way to display the progress as the text loads, for people with slower connections?
View 1 RepliesSo I'm loading text from an external file I've uploaded onto the internet. It loads absolutely fine when I test the movie from my computer, but when I upload it and embed it onto an html page, all of the dynamic text refuses to load. Can someone enlighten me as to what's going on? Or at least tell me how to fix it? XD;

View 1 Repliesthis is should be pretty simple but I have had a lot of trouble figuring this out..
I have one dynamic text field called "content_txt"
I have 3 buttons with 3 different instance names (btn1 btn2 btn3)
I have 3 text documents in a folder (1.txt 2.txt 3.txt)
I am able to have 1.txt loaded into content_txt, but here is the problem.
I would like btn2 to load 2.txt and btn3 to load 3.txt into content_txt.
I have looked for an answer for this problem (and found many close answers) but when I try and make my code fit, it just doesn't work. I'm really new to this so any help would be amazing. (or if this has been answered somewhere else and I have missed it..
Go into the 3D Studio Max link and in there you'll see my problem.....How can I get the text to format to the width of the dynamic text field? What I have are variables set up to load text from an uploaded .txt file, into the dynamic text field... it seems to run each line way over to the right...
View 3 RepliesI have a scrollbar that uses a movieclip-instance name "text" to display dynamic text.On the main timeline I used the following code:
myLoadVars = new LoadVars();
myLoadVars.onLoad = function() {
dynamictextcontent.htmlText = myLoadVars.dynamictextvariable_html;

When a user enters the website, it will pull text from some location (possibly an XML file) and load it into a text field. The trick is that I want it to randomly load a different chunk of text in each time the user opens the site. There are about 25 different small pieces of text I want to randomly load.
View 5 RepliesCreating an image map in Flash MX. I want to be able to load text that I put in the actionscript pane into a text box, so when I mouse over a particular area of my image it will detect and put my text in the text box up on mouse over and disappear on mouse out.
View 2 RepliesI have a doubt, if a Stage have 600px height and I would like to center an movieClip that have dynamic size and the registration point is always at the top, to the 400px of that 600px how can it be done, without having to create another movieClip.

I am having a problem with my text alignment and I can't figure out a way to correct this. Unfortunately, I'm using a mac with CS3 and a Windows computer with CS4, so it could either be an OS difference, a version difference, or a software bug which I can't figure out.
Update: I downloaded a trial CS4 and the problem persists. This seems to be a mac issue. For some reason, the text on my Mac with CS3 are not in the vertical center of the text fields. This causes a problem with my "align vertical centers" alignments, meaning I've had to do the alignment by hand to get it to look right. When I moved my file to my laptop to keep working on my project at home, I noticed that the text alignment was correct on my laptop, causing all of the text placement throughout my document to be off. This means that I can only work on the one computer and can't bring the project home to work through the weekends. I have made an image showing the difference of how the text is aligned on the two versions, and a sample of how it affects my project when i bring it between computers.
I made the file on the mac (CS3) first, and so the alignment is designed to look correct on there. When i bring it to the PC (CS4) the text shifts down, placing it back in the center of the text boxes and ruining the alignment. When I publish the file it keeps the formatting of each system. IE - publishing on the mac makes the final product look like it does on the mac, and publishing on the windows computer makes it look like it looks on the windows computer. The file published from the mac has the mac alignment on both computers, and the file published from the pc has the alignment of the pc on both computers.
Just to clarify, the way flash handles text fields on windows / cs4 is how I imagine it should be. I made the file on mac/CS3 however, and so when i said "ruins the alignment" I should have said "fixes the alignment problem, but breaks my alignment which was made to compensate for the problem I was experiencing."
I'm creating Flash-based software that has text boxes where users write in the answers to questions. I want the text that the user types to be vertically aligned to the middle of the text box, so that even if the response is two or three lines, it is still centered in the box.
It doesn't appear that I can accomplish this through the properties window in Flash. Am I missing something? Or is it possible to set the properties of the text box with actionscript, and would that allow me to vertically align the text?
I'm trying to make a Dynamic TextField and set align to 'Justify'.I tried use align propriety from TextFormat but doesnt work.Until now, it only works with Static Texts, that I know.
