I am building an autocomplete menu system, and need the general function to be simple as I will be adding a lot more functionality to it later...

I'm currently in the planning/early building phase of a desktop flex application that will be communicating to a Zend Application on a web server.The flex app will basically be like a layout/view in terms of the MVC pattern, it will make requests to various controller actions and display the data returned in a meaningful way, and post data that will update various data in the database on the server. Basically what I'm wondering is what the best way is to go about building a login system for the desktop application.I can't use the regular channels that you would if your users were accessing the application via a browser, so I was thinking I would do this:
Flex app posts login details (email, password) to a login action.The login action uses Zend Auth to check if the details are valid.The login action creates a unique hash (and stores it in the db somewhere along with the user's id) and returns a json object containing the hash along with the user's id to the flex app.Whenever the flex app makes requests to any action in the web app, it also sends along the user's id and the unique hash so the web app can verify the user.
My client wants to distribute a video to some people, specifically car dealers, but he doesn't want the video to end up on Youtube or something like that. Therefore he wants the recipients of the video to be able to see it only once. My idea to implement this is:Generate a unique key per viewerSend each viewer a link to a page with a Flash based video player, with their key in the URLHave Flash get the video from the server. On the server the key is checked and the file sent (using php's readfile or something equivalent).Then the key is invalidated.I was thinking this wouldn't take more than a day to build.I know that if you want somebody to be able to play something, you implicitly give them the power to record it as well, but the client just wants me to make it as hard as possible.

View 1 RepliesPosted this to the Adobe Support forum too, but so far, no luck there. My Flash CS4 installation on one computer is not giving me the auto complete choices it should for AS3. When I open an FLA for AS3, the ActionScript panel gives me the correct auto complete options for AS3.When I create a new AS file, link it to an AS3 FLA file, the auto complete options in the AS file are AS2 related and I cannot figure out why it's doing this or how to get my AS3 options back.I have some screen shots posted there to show what's happening.
View 1 RepliesI am building a menu and for each button of the menu, subbuttons apear beneath it along the menu. And I am having some problems. Each of the menu buttons has animations for rollOver and rollOut. What can I do so that when I move over the subbuttons the menu button won't start the rollOut animation. I have to extend the hit state. If I put the subbuttons in the same movie clip as the menu button, the animation would be bad because I am doing width, height, x and y tweenings with ActionScript and addind something the the clip would change these properties. Pls help.
Is it possible to extend the hit state of the menu button in some way ?

View 7 RepliesI've been working with Flash Builder for quite a long time, but just lately, developing a relative small project in Flex, when I try to auto complete the code sometimes the whole application crashes (keeps loading forever). It happened when I was writing <Style source="" /> or even when it was auto generating an handler for an event, so I guess it doesn't depend on the classes I use.

I need to make an auto complete component in flex that fetches the auto complete results from a remote database using a webservice. I have the webservice and querying part worked out. I've already made custom components in action script by extending VBoxes. However I cannot figure out how to generate the popup window that is supposed to show under the text input in my auto complete text box.

I was successful in enabling a search of available terms using the characters entered in the input, but only irrespective of the location of the characters in the terms. However, I am wondering how one might have the characters match only the beginning of the terms.
For example, suppose I enter the string "app" into the text input. How can I get only "apple" and not, for instance, "pineapple" to appear as an option?
I am using Flash CS5 and I have created a large, rarely changing framework that I don't want to be recompiled every time I use it in my projects.I must be doing something wrong because the "auto-complete" functionality doesn't show the names of the parameters of the functions.For example, I have a function:

For some reason, in the past few days, the auto complete feature doesn't work well when I'm creating a new class file. I'm trying to write a new class which uses away3D, and even though the auto-complete works well when I start a new AS3 file, it just doesn't work as far as away3D is concerned when I try to create a new AS3 Class file. Other features of the auto-complete don't work as well, for some reason.

View 2 RepliesWhat I have so far is all my menu items get added to an array and they have a start y property. They are all evenly placed apart.I'm taking this is little steps so as a start I wanted to click on a menu item and just move it to the center of the menu and reposition the others.I have the mid point stored.So when I click the item I find out what index in the array the item is at and I find how many index positions away the item with the start y I want to move to is.I then go through every item in the array and tell it to look that many positions away, get the startY of the item there, and set it as its destination Y. In theory it seems sound to me but it completey does not work.the code I have so far is like this

I want to build it the same way, with the interval. But the menu array contains, some years, and with a loop a go trough this array and flash builds it with the items of the array. This maybe a bit of a 'wide' question, but am putting together a brief overview of a new system I'm proposing at work. It will be a POS style system, that does quotes and invoices + crm for our work enviroment across 100 + locations.
It will communicate with server via the Internet. Flex / Air feature set (offline SQL is Internet goes down, Rich communications, rich client environment etc), the fact that we run Macs + PC makes it looks like a great choice. I know HTML 5 has offline SQL and stuff, but flex feature set is way more comprehensive / usable etc..Is anyone doing any big corporate Flex / Air projects that need to last a long time? Or are you pushing HTML and its new technologies to provide a more safe investment.
I have managed to get data out from Mysql database. All it returns to me are:
1) Name of the button
2) Where it link to
3) Number of Buttons for the menu
So now, how can I build a menu of buttons such that I can display according to the database return on the number of buttons? I have already create a movieclip which is the image of a single button. With dynamic text on top of the button in the movieclip.
I just need to loop it thru the number of buttons and display the buttons on screen. But I can't seems to get it right. I have looked through the XML dynamic menu but it's not very similar to mine as I'm using PHP script to connect to the database.
I am working on a new site, and in the site items from the library are brought on to and taken off the main stage through a handful of functions in the document class. I also have a main menu class that is responsible for building and adding menu items. The way it is built currently, these menu items must somehow reach into the document class and call the functions I created earlier, but I am unsure how to do this. Most things I find on how to call a parents method end with the person saying if it built correctly you shouldn't be doing this at all.

I can duplicate a movie but I can't populate the textfield in the clip with a number. plus I don't know how I'm going to get it to load the individual image.

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to make an XML driven popout menu (click a menu item to open its submenu) and have run into a snag. I haven't figured out how to "hide" elements that aren't supposed to be on the screen.The menu is constructed completely out of TextFields based on the structure of a simple XML file. I added Event Listeners to each of the TextFields but I can't figure out how to make those TextFields go away when they are not supposed to be seen.
I have tried to add each TextField onto a common DisplayObject and the use container.removeChild to remove the TextFields that shouldn't be there but I keep getting errors telling me that the target of removeChild must belong to the caller. So how do I manage the visibility of menu items based on mouse clicks in a menu?I've attached the specific AS file (SOMAMenu.as) that handles the menu if anyone finds that helpful.
