ActionScript 3.0 :: Compare User Inputted String To A Variable Already Created?
May 22, 2010
I am trying to compare a user inputted string to a variable already created. When I do this with int it works fine but when I try changing it to strings I can't get it to work.
I have been instructed to develop a banner that has a text field for a user to input a zip code and when they click locate, a URL is opened with a static url.com address + the zip code they entered.
For example [URL]
When user inputs the zip code 92912, a getURL is opened with the website located [URL]
what actionscript I have to use to add the input text to the end of the URL, or how this can be done?

i am having a problem restricting an input text im not sure if this has to be done in two ways or can be solved in one. what i want to do is only allow letters to be inputed which have not been inputted before and the empty box to be imputted i have tried
imput_txt.restrict = "a-z^Letters_str";
but this seems to only let me enter the letters except for LETRST ive tried putting the string outside the qutation marks and other variations i have also tried it with /'s around and before the string.
I have created a form which sends the inputted values as an email. The file takes a name, delivery address etc and also should allow a quantity to be input. There is also an option where a different delivery address can be specified like so:The code looks okay, with no compiling errors, but the 'user input quantity' does not work and when changing different address,
I have created a variable that when defined as String can end up containing what I need. It just doesnt do what I need it to do.So I can trace out a1Tap=containa1_ mc.square_ mc. saysquare_btn.That is what I want a1Tap to contain but it isn;t the right kind of data.[code]How do I set up and use the a1Tap variable so that a) it contains containa1_ mc. square_ mc.saysquare_btn (as it currently does)in a way that it work as a path name for an event listener?
I'm creating a learning activity for one of our biology classes. The basis of the activity is to test students ability to transcribe and translate DNA into other sequences.I have a dynamic text field where the student would type in a 36 character sequence.
I already know that I can use an if statement to see if all 36 characters are correct. I was wondering if there was a way to individually check each letter the student typed in is the correct one for that line. So if UUAACCGG is the correct answer, I want flash to check and see if the third character is indeed A or not.I know I can do this with 36 individual text boxes, but I was kind of hoping to get away with just one big text box.
I'm trying to do a check to see if the user inputed a number into an input text field. I'm also running a check to see if the user has left the input blank (which works just fine), but I can seem to get the NaN function working.
(using actionscript 2.0 w/ flash CS3)
Quote:
this.btn_step1next.onRelease = function() { if ( zipcode.text == "" || zipcode.text == isNaN() ) { message.text = "Please enter your ZIP code to continue."; } else {

on my stage i have 24 instance MC Page created at runtime (when cliked the button execute 24 instance MC Page from the library). Each of those MC Page create an xml with infos (not important), this variable_XML created is nested inside each MC Page.. From my stage i want to call each XML from each MC Page for make 1 unic big xml, then send it to the server.
So from the main stage i created a button that call each xml of each MC Page (there is a definit number of Page only 24, no more, no less). So when the 24 instances of the MC Page are created I push there instance name inside an Array "Page_Array". Now in my function exportxml i use get ChildByName(Page_array[number]) for find them then i can apply my method to the according MCPage.. Until here no problem, trace(dispObject.name) work. but when i try to get my variable inside the MC Page : trace(dispObject.my_variableXML), it doesnt work..
here is my function (only 1 page for this example ):
function exportxml(evt:MouseEvent):void { dispObject=getChildByName(Page_Array[0]); trace(dispObject.name); //trace Page1 trace(dispObject.my_variableXML);// here it dont trace the variableXML } normally if i trace(Page1.my_variableXML); , it should trace "my_varableXML" no ??
I'm wondering if purepdf has the ability to save formatted text from a user-inputted text field. If so, how is this achieved? From what I understand, purepdf is basically iText, and I believe iText has the ability to parse HTML and save formatted text into a PDF. Does purepdf have that same functionality that I can tap into and plug in 'textfield.htmlText' somewhere?
I started a search engine in flash for a small 15 pages website,and in these cases I think it's best to create an XML file as a database... I need to say that I am a beginner in using actionscript and Macromedia Flash as I used other software before. here is the progress so far: Search engine and here is the XML file to get an idea: XML file and the actionscript: Actionscript TXT or Actionscript PDF there are some words in Romanian in the search engine link
1).I need to compare the VAR entered by the user in the search box with the DESCRIPTION from the XML, what I was able to do is to compare if they are equal, that means you need to enter the exact description to get a result, what I need to obtain is for example to enter "goo" and still get the result for GOOGLE, or "gle" or whatever...
2). I also need to use the search button as a trigger and also the key ENTER, I was able to do it but not together, it was either ENTER or the button, I need to specify here that the function from the onRelease command of the button is a very complex one.
I have an Array retrived from XML via xPath. I then compare one bucket with a string and dont get the result i want. It seems that the XML string isn't really a string.
i placed a movieclip with a textfield in it on the stage.i want to compare between the textfield.text value to a string' but always recieve a false value when i'm doing it.when i use trace:
The question seems to be simple, however it create problems for me. I have a dataGrid with two dataFields: peerID, name. The information in a grid updated dynamically when new user joined the group (I'm creating a chat). I need that information about user deleted from a grid after it's disconnect. So, on "NetGroup.Neighbor.Disconnect": event i want to compare "event.info.peerID" value with all peerID values in a grid and delete info about disconnected user.
I'm trying to use next construction:
for (var i:uint, len:uint = txtDataArray.length; i < len; i++) { if (txtDataArray.source[i] == event.info.peerID) {
[code]....
But it doesn't work at all!
I'v noticed that construction txtDataArray.source[i] (or txtDataArray.getItemAt(i) ) returned [object GridColumn] insead of value. So, I have two questions:
1) How to get the value of exact cell?
2) How to organized info delete after user disconnect?
I need to compare a number with a element in a Array(curModeDisplay), I can trace the element and see it without problem. But when I try to compare the inside element with a String, it didn't work. Why?
ActionScript Code: curModeDisplay = new Array(); \this is the Array I need for (var tvM:XMLNode = tv.firstChild; tvM!=null; tvM=tvM.nextSibling){ curModeDisplay.push(tvM.childNodes); \received element fine here } trace(curModeDisplay); \ This works fine. Array displays correctly
When I need those elements from the Array(curModeDisplay) and try to make some comparison work, it did not work:
ActionScript Code: function DigitCompare():Void{ for(var index in curModeDisplay){ if(curModeDisplay[index]=="11265"){ //it seems didn't work here
[code]....
Is that because the element in the Array is reference to the XML node, and "11265" is String. If so, how should I fix this problem. The "11265" will be changed to any named String type variable in the future.
How to compare a string with strings inside an array for a match? I have a file in which each sentence (or word) (generally string) is present in a new line. Opened the file and read the contents to a string.
Code: private function readHandler(event:Event):void{ _str = _readStream.readUTFBytes(_readStream.bytesAvailable); _strArray = _str.split(" "); //contains each string that appears in a new line _length = _strArray.length; [Code] .....
But this doesn't work. Seems like if(_input == _strArray[i]) never gets executed even if they are equal. What might be the problem. Is there some better way to so it?
I'm trying to cut down the amount of code I type to complete a project. Using things like ?: and &&= over the typical if statements. Is there a way to compare a single variable to a group of variables? example...
I'm doing a little weather web app in flash.So i read an xml feed and copose an array of data from it.[code]Now what i would like to do is to find and trace the entry in mydate array which have a a value that approach the most to "currenthour" variable (which is my current time i'm getting upper).For exemple if currenthour = 11.In the case that i have myhour array equal to 5 , 10 , 14 , 20.The best match will be myhour[1].
Comparison of number or string is understandable. But how come when in flash AS3.0, we do :
var a:TextField = new TextField(); var b:TextField = new TextField() ;
[Code]....
Is their some Application-wide ID, that flash gives to each component instance. Or is it compairson of the strings ( comparing the whole path of each component )
When an instance variable is constructed by a constructor method, why do you need to refer to the current instance variable being created when its the only one being created? I understand assigning an expression to it but why name it "this." when it is the only object that the constructor is building? Does it have some hing to do with being able to naming that object in the Local Variable? In other words am I creating a generic object that will be named in another class?
