Im having a problem adding a child to a nested movieclip.the main movieclip is instanced when the user clicks on the create gallery button.the code then proceeds to create x movieclips(productFrames) with nested movieclips(imageFrame) with instance name:imageFrame1 & dynamic text frames(title & genus) & then add text to those frames & an image to one of the nested mcs
the problem seems to be with
productFrame.imageFrame1.addChild(imageLoader);
productFrame.genus.text="Loaded "+kbLoaded+" of "+kbTotal+" KB";

I have a class that adds to the main stage fine, but not inside an MC
var SliderTestClass = new SliderTestClass;
mContent01.addChild(issSlider); //trace says undefined
addChild(issSlider);//trace says [object SliderTestClass]
Why would it refused to be added to mContent01 which is a visible MC on the stage?
I'm successfully adding an external .swf file using the following code:
[Code]...
So - I'm loading the "graphic.swf" into a movie clip called "topClip" which is already on the stage in the main timeline. That works fine. But... then I'm having a problem addressing the loaded "graphic.swf" with a button (to lower it's alpha). I'm using this:

The following code adds 10 instances of circleMC to the stage. Inside circleMC is a dyn text field that increases in number from 1 - 10 so I have numbered circles on the stage.Each circle needs to open an infoBox which will contain variables unique to that box. I can't figure out how to address each infoBox. How would I say something like on circle1 set infoBox1.visible=true?
code:
var jurNum:uint = 0;
addBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onAdd);
function onAdd(evt:MouseEvent):void {[code]........
I used a loop to create a series of instances of a class called "Ball": ball_0, ball_1, ball_2, etc.But then somewhere else I need to add them on the stage. When Iusestage.addChild(Ball("ball_"+ballNum)) it gives me this error:TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert "ball_3" to Ball.(ballNum was set to 3 at that time)it seems there's a new syntax (or something) that I don't get. I get the same type of errors when using other functions such as stage.contains()
View 9 RepliesI have a button function the launches a small movieClip (like a window). Inside this movieClip is your typical keypad.
Code:
package com {
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.events.*;
public class Login extends MovieClip{
[Code].....
I'm trying to next a series of keypad buttons inside the new loginBox instance, so they'll be referenced as loginBox.key1 etc etc.
I want to set their x/y coordinates before they are added to the stage (loginBox.key1.x = 23) , but obviously they don't exist yet.
I'm missing the way to get around this. The very last line of the above code is my hack attempt so far, and it's still causing me problems.
If you have 5 or 6 different components in your library that you want to put inside of eachother from *.as files
i created a "for" function who ´ll display an X number of buttons with addChild, and give a name for each using button.name = "name" + variable but later if I want to listen for the buttons using their name don´t work, already know that there is getChildByName so i tried but give me the same error who tells that there no object with that name.My question is, how i can listen for the objects created if i already have a name for each one of them? here is the code im doing.
for(var i:int = 1; i <6;i++){var miBoton:boton = new boton();var miTexto:TextField = new TextField();miBoton.x = i * miBoton.width + (i* 10);miBoton.y = 20;addChild(miBoton);miBoton.name = "boton" + i;miTexto.text = "hi";miBoton.addChild(miTexto);trace(miBoton.name);trace(miBoton.parent);}
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.net.URLLoader;
var index:int = 0;[code].......
I am relatively new to flash and action script as well and I am having a problem getting the sprite to be removed after another is called.I am making emission spectrum's of 3 elements by dynamically generating the mask over a picture on the stage. Everything works perfectly fine with the code I have right now except the sprites stack on top of each other and I end up with bold lines all over my picture instead of a new set of lines each time i press a button.I have tried using try/catch to remove the sprites and I have also rearranged the entire code from what is seen here to make 3 seperate entities (hoping I could remove them if they were seperate variables) instead of 2 functions that handle the whole process.
So I'm adding these movieclips which have textfields inside them and I'm trying to space each new movieclip. Currently they are being placed on top of each other. _taskX and _taskY are variables which I define down there.
Code:
public function onClick(event:MouseEvent):void
{
_taskX = 300;
_taskY = 100;
[Code]...
I have a MovieClip called item with the same linkage set and my first task is to display 10 of these items on the stage nested inside a movieclip called MainItem. I have dragged MainItem to the stage and have the following for loop:
[Code]....
I'm dynamically creating movieclips with dynamically created movieclips inside them and am having trouble with targeting them.
Below is a simplified example of what I'm trying to achieve, in the real file there are a lot more movieclips and I'm creating and naming them with a for loop.
This one is just one Sprite created inside another sprite. I can target the top level sprite named "testname". However when i try target the nested MC it throws an error.
The bottom couple of traces are just test MCs I've made to make sure i got the syntax right, on targeting nested movieclips.
PHP Code:
var holder:Sprite = new test1();
holder.name = "testname";
this.addChild(holder);
[Code]....
I have been searching for a resolution to this for weeks but to no avail. I have made a game already where I had a character names mainChar placed on the screen using the Flash IDE. With this method, i was able to access it's various nested movieclips such as mainChar.walk and mainChar.jump. The problem is that I am making a new game where the main character is loaded via external code using hero:mainChar = new mainChar(); in the external file. after this, i would like to check what the current frame of a nested movieclip is. for example, hero.walk.currentFrame. however, by initializing it using the external code, as opposed to my previous method of placing it right on the stage, the compiler is not picking up of hero.walk.currentFrame stating that "a term is undefined and has no properties (error type 1010)". Is there any way for me to let the compiler know that the nested movieclip is there. It's odd because i can state hero.gotoAndStop("walk"), but when i say hero.walk it gives an error, so i know it isnt spelling.
View 4 Repliesdoes that make sense at all? here's what i'm trying to do, the code is below. i'm building a touchscreen interface for a tradeshow, which mainly is a slideshow, with three buttons, one of which, when clicked, needs to load the company's webpage. i need to keep the webpage "inside" my environment and keep the navigation buttons on screen, so the user can touch the other two buttons for the rest of the content. so far, i've got an image on the stage, then call a button with addchild. i've got that loading a movieclip via addchild, also, which then calls the url, then i lose my nav button. is it possible to somehow load a url, and control it's depth index? or, accomplish the desired result in a different way?
var button_1:btn1 = new btn1();
button_1.x = 196;
button_1.y = 860;

I have a movie clip menu on a main timeline and inside that movie clip I have created four buttons dynamically. How to access those nested buttons/movieClips (add event listeners etc) from main timeline? Here I am adding menu to the display list on main timeline:

"How to control a movieclip which is 'introduced' by the AddChild property in a other movieclip (for example PageContainer).
For my website, I use the this code:
Actionscript Code:

"How to set the statement to a good one, so I can start the closing animation in the Page1-MC which is in PageContainer by the AddChild-property?
I have a nested movieclip that I need to control.I have searched the net and to this point I have been able to make it gotoAndStop at frame 1 and play().I can't make it stop.I understand that actionscript can be attached to the movieclip instance or placed on the root timeline.what I would like is direction to websites and or tutorials that might teach me how to control a nested movieclip.
View 3 Replies on my stage i have 24 instance MC Page created at runtime (when cliked the button execute 24 instance MC Page from the library). Each of those MC Page create an xml with infos (not important), this variable_XML created is nested inside each MC Page.. From my stage i want to call each XML from each MC Page for make 1 unic big xml, then send it to the server.
So from the main stage i created a button that call each xml of each MC Page (there is a definit number of Page only 24, no more, no less). So when the 24 instances of the MC Page are created I push there instance name inside an Array "Page_Array". Now in my function exportxml i use get ChildByName(Page_array[number]) for find them then i can apply my method to the according MCPage.. Until here no problem, trace(dispObject.name) work. but when i try to get my variable inside the MC Page : trace(dispObject.my_variableXML), it doesnt work..
here is my function (only 1 page for this example ):
function exportxml(evt:MouseEvent):void { dispObject=getChildByName(Page_Array[0]); trace(dispObject.name); //trace Page1 trace(dispObject.my_variableXML);// here it dont trace the variableXML
}
normally if i trace(Page1.my_variableXML); , it should trace "my_varableXML" no ??

here is a description of the flash movie.I have a map of the world on the main timeline that is a movie. The map is compiled of buttons that navigate the main timeline to named frames. -Ex. If you click Africa from the world map you are taken to the Africa named frame on the main timeline. This works perfectly.At the Africa named frame on the main timeline I have replaced the world map with a large map of just Africa. This large Africa map is a movieclip instance that has script on it to be draggable. This works perfectly.
The Africa map contains little movieclips that blink. I would like the little blinking movieclips to control the alpha of a movieclip (when rolled over/off) that is on the main stage and timeline.
I try to control nested movie clip.So i have box movie clip and on this movie clip i put tree movie clip.And now i try to change for example apha of tree. Code:
//box_mc.tree_mc.alpha=.4;
box_mc.getChildByName("tree_mc").alpha=.4;
"" for me not logical symbols:) it looks like trace("blabla"); why need use ""?

simplied version:(there's a mc of the Box class in the library)
Code:
for (var i:int=0; i<10; i++) {
var box:Box=new Box();[code]......
error: access of undefined property box2
I'm using AS3, CS5.5, on Windows764bit. I created an animation with many different layers (and nested movieclips) on the stage, then wrote a short bit of As3 to add a slider control of the playback. The problem/mystery is that when I change the slider, the nested MCs act strangely/independently. How to control everything at once? Here is the current file: [URL]
Here is the code I added:
package {import flash.display.*;
import fl.controls.*;
import fl.events.*;import flash.text.*;
//for TLF crap public class SliderClip extends MovieClip {
var slider:Slider;
public function SliderClip() {

I'm new to Flash Builder 4 and Actionscript 3 (actually, to programming as a whole beyond some very simplistic stuff). I have watched / read a bunch of tutorials, and started a project but now seem to have hit a wall. The answer is most likely simple, but seems to be alluding me.
How do I (or What approach should I take) to control visual elements, for instance, BorderContainer's, that I created dynamically?
As is, I have an Application containing a BorderContainer and a DataGrid. At runtime, 3 new BorderContainers (which are dragable, and resizeable) are created based on XML data that contains X & Y co-ordinates, and Height and Width values, and then added to the pre-existing BorderContainer. How would I go about getting the properties of these children BorderContainers to be displayed and remain up-to-date in the DataGrid (such as when they are moved/resized)?
ActionScript Code:
package
{
[code].......
I'm using a List control. In the renderer of the List control I've got a Repeater. Each Repeater can have a different number of items. Adding to the complexity, one of the components being repeated in the repeater is a Text control that has long text that will wrap, increasing it's height. I need to expand the height of the List completely so that there's no vertical scrollbar. How can I do this?
I tried an extremely dirty attempt at calculating the Lists height based on the data source. From the data source I can figure out the number of repeater items and the number of items in each repeater in the List's renderer. But there's no way to compensate for the wrapping of the text in the Text control.
I'm trying to have a class file which can add objects to the stage via addChild; however, when I call addChild from within the class file, I get the error "1180: Call to a possibly undefined method addChild." I've tried importing flash.display.* and that doesn't fix the problem. Does the class file have to extend Sprite or MovieClip to be able to add objects to the stage?
View 8 RepliesI have downloaded Box2d ([URL]) and created a project that looks like this: [URL]. catalyst is the green cube and it has the base class "shapes.box", it is inside "world" which has the base class "wck.World". What i want to do is to add another "catalyst" from the library inside "world" when i click on add_btn. I tried to accomplish this by this code:
[Code]...
Symbol 'buttons', Layer 'Actions', Frame 1, Line 41061: Call to a possibly undefined method addChild through a reference with static type Class.
I have the followings:
_p:Player (which is a MC)
a1:Animation1 (which is a MC)
_p.addChild(a1); //doesn't display anything
_p.stage.addChild(a1); //displays a1
Why won't the MC display a child without using his stage?
I'm trying to resolve an issue that reared it's ugly head yesterday.Frame one of main timeline I have the following code:
Code:
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
[code]....
The newMC doesn't show up.If I add 'parent.' in front of the addChild then it appears.mc_LibItem has a base class of "flash.display.MovieClip" and is exporting for ActionScript and on frame one.For grins I created a new .fla and began messing around with the same addChild idea and it worked.
somewhat understood the basics of adding and removing children, however, I am facing another problem. After using the removeChild Function, I can't seem to add another child.For example:
ActionScript Code:
var attachedMC = new (getDefinitionByName("Content1") as Class)()
Page.addChild(attachedMC);
[code].....
