Setting properties of a nested clip from the associated document class of the parent clip. I am developing a Jigsaw puzzle in Flash. I am developing a class for puzzle piece. The code of the PuzzlePiece class in given as follows.
PuzzlePiece class package { import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.events.MouseEvent; public class PuzzlePiece extends MovieClip { private var pieceX:Number; [Code] .....
Is it wrong to access it like that. The PuzzlePiece is the export for a puzzle clip. For the time being I am hard coding the dimension as 60. I have aloso uploaded the fla and as files. [URL].
Im having a problem adding a child to a nested movieclip.the main movieclip is instanced when the user clicks on the create gallery button.the code then proceeds to create x movieclips(productFrames) with nested movieclips(imageFrame) with instance name:imageFrame1 & dynamic text frames(title & genus) & then add text to those frames & an image to one of the nested mcs
the problem seems to be with productFrame.imageFrame1.addChild(imageLoader); productFrame.genus.text="Loaded "+kbLoaded+" of "+kbTotal+" KB";
I have a MovieClip called item with the same linkage set and my first task is to display 10 of these items on the stage nested inside a movieclip called MainItem. I have dragged MainItem to the stage and have the following for loop:
I created a movie clip symbol with a user interface in it, using the standard components. It contains various components that I draged on the stage. I named the instances (e.g titleLabel). Then I created an ActionScript class for that user interface. Under the linkage properties of the symbol I specified that class. In the class itself, i declared the attribute "var titleLabel:Label". I thought this would be the same instance from the symbol? But: Trying to set the text of the Label AFTER the movie was dynamically added to the parent does not work. I cannot access any properties.
Here is the example:
My Class for the user interface:
Code: import mx.controls.*; class Information extends MovieClip { var titleLabel:Label; //this is the same instance name as in the symbol
I have 35 movieclips, named s1, s2, s3 etc, depending on the value of currentDisplay, I would like to set a movieclip visible property to true while the others are set to false, I have tried the following:
Code: for (i=1; i<36; i++){ trace(i);[code]....
but I receive an error message: 1083: Syntax error: dot is unexpected. I assume it is referring to the dot before visible.
As the title says, i would like to have an object which is nested beneath another objects depth set higher than that of one the is NOT nested. Is this possible if so how, may be real easy and im just over-looking it but
I'm successfully adding an external .swf file using the following code:
[Code]...
So - I'm loading the "graphic.swf" into a movie clip called "topClip" which is already on the stage in the main timeline. That works fine. But... then I'm having a problem addressing the loaded "graphic.swf" with a button (to lower it's alpha). I'm using this:
i'm attempting to cast an object's property as an actual property of another object. here's my object variable: var propObj:Object = {prop:"width", width:50}; now i want to assign the property of a sprite using that object's properties. var sp:Sprite = new Sprite(); sp.(propObj.prop as Sprite.property) = propObj.width; now, i'm not even going to try that because i know the compiler will explode all up in my face. but you should be able to see what i'm trying to do. why i'm trying to do it is because i'm reading in an XML file with an undetermined list of usable properties for specific objects. so instead of writing something like a huge switch statement to evaluate whether the XML file has a value for that specific property, i'm trying to assign properties dynamically based on what's available in the XML file. if what i'm trying to do is possible, what's the best way to do it?
I'm completely new to this forum, and would like to ask your help for one issue. I am working on an interactive flash map, I was able to set all the countries borders with the help of fireworks (awesome tool), and import them back to flash and set each country as a button. I would like to set all of the buttons to have the same properties for example : All the buttons have default red color, and will have a mouse hover frame that will change the color of the button to blue. I DO NOT want to set each button manually, because I would like to have the choice to change the mouse hover color to a different one, and would like to avoid passing each button and changing each one's mouse hover frame.
Is there a way I can built a template of a frame, and for each button set its mouse hover frame as the template frame I built ? And then if I make any changes to the template frame, all of my buttons would be automatically updated ?
I want to open a new internet window using actionscript on a button but I also want to control the characteristics of that window when it opens:
1. I want it to be a specific size - 180 x 200 2. I want all the standard page elements removed - the scrollbar, browser tools etc - so there is just a box to close it. 3. I want it to be centered on the screen
Can I get this much detail with actionscript regarding the new window when I open it?
i have a problem whenever i name a movie and set its properties. whenever i use eval on the name it works,
[Code]...
i've heard you shouldn't use eval anymore because it's deprecated, and that you should use this[object]._property instead, but it's not working for me--am i doing it wrong?
(Actionscript 2 btw - and actually cs4, not that it really makes any difference?) I have a class that instantiates a movieclip from the library, e.g.: Code: debugbar:MovieClip = thing.AttachMovie("debugbar", "debugbar_mc", 999); So attaching it to the where ever "thing" is - could be movie clip or level0 or whatever, doesn't matter as "debugbar" is a private variable of the class. Now the important part - debugbar in the library is a movieclip that contains some components - buttons and textInputs. The problem comes when trying to access these components.
I would have thought that this would work: Code: debugbar.input_txt.text = "hello"; In order to set the text of "input_txt", the instance name of a TextInput component on the timeline of the movie clip (put there in author time). However, this does not work. Infact, I cannot access any specific "component" properties - they come back undefined. I can however set and retrieve MovieClip properties for the "input_txt", such as _x. However there is one added strange thing with this too - setting _visible to false doesn't seem to work (however perhaps a component by default overrides this).
I also appear not to be able to add event handlers to the component - at least for the usual component events. I tried casting it to a component, such as: Code: var temp:TextInput = TextInput(debugbar.input_txt); trace(temp); which gave "temp" as null. However if you trace the thing itself without casting to what it is, it gives the path to correctly. It almost seems like the components are somehow broken when trying to access them this way - or that they cannot be accessed this way?
The thing is, I was able to access all of this before, when the code to do it was placed on the timeline (frame 1, the only frame) of the debugbar itself, where the components were child instances. This meant I could just reference them directly too - so input_txt rather than debugbar.input_txt , although that is probably largely irrelevant. I need to have it in a class though, as I need to pass in certain objects that need to be accessed by the mc.
so, a blendMode seems to break on a nested movieclip in FP10 when you change a 3d propery of the parent clip? rotationY, rotationZ, etc...Example here (sorry, not enough posts to actually link):
set text property of textfields nested in clips on an animated timelines.
All assets are named from the first frame of the outer movieclip. Debugging this in Flash Builder, we can see that the textfield property is being set, but probably because of the multiple keyframes within the outer movieclip AND inner movieclip, there is some confusion occurring...
Testing various scenarios with nested animated movieclips, and nested NON-animated movieclips, the results are this:
It works in this scenario:
mcMainContainer(with animated timeline)>mcSubContainer(with no timeline)>myTextfield
But as soon as we have a nested animated timeline, like this:

Trying to check for keypress combos and setting properties true accordingly, the trouble is I'm not being able to set the properties false to the corresponding keyreleases.
Code: // X3msnake v1.1.060510 // Controller checks for keypresses translates it to property states, sets up and gets keys. package{ import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.display.Stage; import flash.events.KeyboardEvent; [Code] .....
I am trying to set up a if function for a hit test. I am using action script 2.0 am coding all in one layer not within movie clips so dont give me code in that format unless nececary.I have a movie clip with instance name src_resolute and I have another movie clip that is nested inside another movie clip named endbar.What I am trying to do is when src_resolute hits endbar I want it do gotoandplay the next scene.The parrent movie clip of the nested movie clips instance name is background.If you need any more infromation let me know but basicly what I want to do is when my main character(src_resolute) makes contact with the nested movie clip(a movie clip I have drawn inside of another movie clip) I want it to jump to the next scene or more specificaly scene 4.
how to set default property values for objects that are being created in a loop.
In the example below, these propeties are the same for each object created in the loop: titleTextField.selectable, titleTextField.wordWrap, titleTextField.x
If you pull these properties out of the loop, they are null because the TextField objects have not been created, but it seems silly to have to set them each time.
var titleTextFormat:TextFormat = new TextFormat(); titleTextFormat.size = 10; titleTextFormat.font = "Arial";
I want to bring an image in from a folder and then display this image in a specifically sized box.[code]So obviously I want the image loaded into a 200 x 200 box (the image is 1200x1200) and scaled proportionately. What do I need to do? The box won't resize at all.
I am attempting to set the propreties of a navigation button (movie clip) that has been built dynamically. The button contains a text field that I want to format and a movie clip that I want to adjust the alpha. I find the object using getChildByName(), however do not seem to be able to set the properties using the code below.[code]
I have just created a custom AS3 Component to use in an MXML project.[code]but then i lose some re usability.What do i need to do to be able to set properties from mxml?
I've got an image slideshow, and a preloader for each individual image. I want the preloader BAR to be dynamically assigned the width of the banner, which is defined in a variable. Here are my preloader settings and function call:
Basically, what is happening is. The "progressBar" width is being defined as the variable BANNER_WIDTH, but when the _xscale property is run in my preloading function, it doesn't care what the banner width is. So what I want to say is. I want you to _xscale according to what is being loaded, but I don't want your _xscale to exceed BANNER_WIDTH's width. I don't know how to do this and keep the preloader accurate. I can only save as CS4, CS5.
This is something I'm experimenting with, but haven't seemed to figure out... I have several MovieClips, basically the same, only different colors. As each one plays, I'd like it to "overlap" whichever one is already there. Right now I have each button linked to a gotoAndPlay function, but I don't think that will ever get me what I want. You can see how I have it now here: [URL]
Instead of having the content MovieClip go back to all white when a button is clicked, I'd like the preivious one to remain, and get "covered up" by the new one. You continue to see the old color, and the new color overlaps it. I have a feeling I need to use a variable and then addChild, with a removeChild for the old MovieClip after the new MovieClip has loaded, but I'm not getting any good results yet.
i am using a movieclip who has two nested movieclips, the problem i am dealing is that when i try to get the width or height of the parent movieclip it always showing the values of the small nested movieclip, when i draw the movieclip it draw perfect but when i read this values shows that error, what can i do?
