I need to create a button in a flash movie that links to a url, but the link needs a Class to be associated to it from an external style sheet so that it launches correctly.

I'm trying to create a web based welcome display for a building entrance. The project would include:
1) A wmv movie play constantly on the digital display until some visitors touch the screen (this can be played either locally or on the internet, but it has to be able to go to number 2 when visitors touch the screen)
2) A couple of buttons with department names show up for visitors to choose who they are here to see
3) After the visitor touch on one button, an email is sent to the department
4) the site should go back to the number 1) again
My experience is html, css, php, javascript, and some Flash, but I'm open to learn new skills. Can someone please suggest some good ways to build this site? Is there any tutorials or good sites I can learn from, that would be a bonus. Edit: so I'll use html5 and javascript. I have a couple of further questions, Since this is going to be a kiosk, the same movie is going to be played constantly, everytime after the customer has contacted us, the 'thank you' page is going to show briefly and go back to the first movie page. My question is how can I not let the movie load again and again everytime when there is a customer?
Because the local data space for the display is going to be limited. I've been thinking if I just create one page for the whole process and use a javascript slide to make each page as a div, so the movie div is going to be hiden so it doesn't need to be reloaded again, would that fix number 1) data space concern? I'm thinking of using a horizontal slide like [URL] How can I make the last div (thank you) to show about 5 secs and go to the first div (movie) again?
I want to create an animated introduction movie which will then go to my main site. Is it better to create two separate movies (that links) or one big movie?

I need to be able to create a flash movie that allows me to step through it with a button.
For instance, a little opening shows, then a button comes up and when you press that button, you go to the next frame, to press another button to take you to the next frame, and so on and so on...
I put the button(s) on their own layer, and I had it working, but the first two buttons you had to press twice to get to the next frame, after that it worked fine.
I'm looking to create a flash based popup window when a button is pressed within the flash movie. Not a javascript based html window or html browser window, but a window that is in the flash movie that is entirely flash based. I looked all over the internet and can't seem to find anything on this, and can't find anything on this board either. I am new to flash and actionscripting in general. I would also like to use the Tweener external class, or the flash tween class would work too.

View 3 RepliesI have been given the task of updating my company's website, which is written in ASP and has a menu in Flash. I am not experienced in neither technology so maybe you can help me a little bit.We have a menu in flash and just received a new one from an artist. They are pretty similar but the new one brings some new buttons. So far what I did was simply change the .fla and .swf files from my web project to the new ones. The new menu is working, but the buttons and links are messed up. For example, our website main page is called Default.aspx. In the old menu, when you clicked in 'Home' it would take you to Default.aspx. In the new one though, it tries to take you to 'index.aspx', which doesn't exist. This makes me think that the mapping of the links in the menu is something that is part of the Flash code. Am I right about this?
Now, if I am right and I need to modify the flash files to create the correct links, how the heck do I do that? Notepad++ doesn't read the .fla well. What is the best free tool that will allow me to modify a file and compile it into a .swf? I know Adobe Flash would work, but we don't want to pay anything.

I have everything working fine but I have been asked that the url's are loaded from a xml file instead of static. Not quite sure where to go from here..I've read how to read from xml but do I need to set the values in global variables?

View 3 RepliesI have a presentation that I created for a client. The presentation is supposed to work locally on anyone's computer. It works perfect on mine. On the client's three computers, 2 pc and 1 mac the links inside flash do not work. I have a text field with text and a simple link inside like [URL] and it's going to a blank window. These won't even pop up a window for my client on any computer, why? He has the lastest Flash players and we created an html link below the flash movie in the html page just to make sure he could launch a popup that way and the html link below the flash movie worked fine.
View 3 RepliesIm trying to make a projector movie that links to a pdf (in the same folder) on a CD that needs to run in both windows and mac. Im able to get it to work on a pc but not on mac. here is the code for the button i used in the projector.

and bat file open a pdf file.so i want to do the same thing for mac, that is using the fscommand to open up a pdf in acrobat. I read messages here that use applescript but i dont understand it too well so what id like to know if possible is the applescript, what it does and do i apply it to the button in my projector or do i tell the button to look at the applescript or what? I guess thats it for now.
I'm trying to get my flash movie to pop out of the box, so I have an opaque background of 500 x 400, but the stage size (the total overall size) is 1000 x 800. Then I use a DIV tag to place the flash movie over the rest of my page, making it seem like the flash movie is only 500 x 400 but some items can pop out to anywhere inside the 1000 x 800. Up to here it works fine, but the problem is you can't click the HTML links that are beneath the transparent part of the flash movie. Is there a way to make the links clickable?

I have a flash movie which contains a number of pages which contain dynamic text fields containing HTML read from my database. This works absolutely fine, however for reasons that I cannot understand when you hover over some of my links they move to the right so they are inline with the edge of the first linked image at the bottom. The code is as follows:

I have developed a rolling credits style movieclip in Flash using Actionscript 2. Text is loaded from an XML file and parsed into a dynamic textfield. This text includes hyperlinks to webpages defined by a url node in the xml so Flash can add the appropriate a href to the dynamic text field and make the link clickable.
In my first attempts to do this the textfield stayed still and all the links worked fine both testing locally and when I run it in a browser on my website.Then I wanted to make things move ... which I achieved easily enough and tested locally (from within Flash Professional) and the links remained clickable, a browser window opened and the webpage i was expecting to see opened... great
However, when I export the swf, upload it and run it from my website suddenly the links are not working. So I tried to test the movie in a browser from Flash Pro - same problem, it must be something to do with Flash Player and the moving dynamic textfield.
a couple of observations - the cursor will change to a hand icon when over the links as you would expect, and if I right click on the link and click open in a new window the link works ok, just not when I left click. If I stop the scrolling then the links become clickable again, it is only when the textfield is moving... actually its not technically scrolling, im moving the whole textfield.
I want to make make a button out of a movieclip (on realease plays the animation) but i can't seem to get it right --' i tried to make a movieclip inside a button but it only works while pressing "click" and i want it on realease. btw i'm working on AS3 sorry if this is too basic i missed that class --' btw the mc is called "flip1".

Using I have created a functional site in which the buttons work so long as they are part of the main timeline. However if I take this functional button and drop it into a movie clip I've created, it ceases to function. Drag it back out of the movie clip and it starts working again. I'm trying to create an animated movie clip button in AS2 using CS5. The button should fade in/out as the mouse moves over and away from the button.Lets say my frame rate is 30 FPS. When I insert a motion tween on frame 1, the timeline is automatically extended by 30 frames. I then select frame 30, select the button and change the alpha value to 30%. When I drag the head marker back and forth, the button fades in and out smoothly exactly as I wanted.But I want to create a motion tween between frame 1 and 10. So I select frame 10, insert a keyframe, select frame 5 and insert a motion tween. Then I select frame 10, select the button and change the alpha value to 30% like before. When I drag the head marker, there is no fade in/out. When the head marker is exactly over frame 10, the button is faded, but when it is on any frame between 1 and 9, it is normal.

View 1 RepliesI have a menu bar that has 2 Drop down menus. Each drop down is a separate movie clip, with 3 buttons inside that are separate movie clips. I have a class set to the buttons that are movie clips for a roll over effect. But when I mouse over it does not work. Also on the main time line I tried to add a like to a web page but it did not work. But I only have this problem with the movie clips that are inside the drop down movie clips.
Why is this? How do I add roll over actions and external links to movie clips that are inside of another movie clip? I really need some help this is a problem I have been having for about a month or more. I am still a AS3 newb and this is my first time using classes. The other classes I have work with everything else, Im just having trouble with the movie clips that are inside movie clips.
