View 4 RepliesI want to display some variables(cat1, cat2 and cat3) in a textfield(content_txt).I'm using a external AS-file.
I now have this:
code: //vars instellen
//titels
[code]....
Is possible to display all the information in the Output folder into a textField on the stage ?
I need to debug after publishing and I can't replace each single "trace" functon.
I'm trying to access a text field from what I believe is called a sub-class. The text field is defined in the .fla file and the .fla file is set up to use Main.as as its document class.I got three files; scrollText.fla, Main.as and TextUtils.as.I know most of the code is working as I programmed it all in Main.as first, but when I moved the code to target the text field into its own class file I ran into error "1120: Access of undefined property" although I have declared the variable correctly and early enough to be used at this point in my code.This is the code I got so far:Main.as
Actionscript Code:
package{ import flash.display.Sprite; import TextUtils; public class Main extends Sprite public function Main()
[code].....
This is for AIR: My document class imports a separate class "ConnMonitor" and uses it to constantly monitor the network connection. It's at the very end of that class where it's supposed to update a textfield on the stage as the connection changes, but the class can't access the textfield.
View 8 RepliesHow can I achieve this ? I tried
MovieClip(root),
MovieClip(parent),
stage,mytextfield.text = ... etc.
They all throw an null object reference problem.
I'm dynamically loading a movieclip onto the stage.
[Code]...
In this movieclip I have a dynamic text field named 'game_score_txt' In the class for this movieclip; The_end.as I want to display some text. I figured the following code would work:
[Code]...
But I get the following error: 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: TextField.
I've googled this to no avail, I've only found how to manipulate the stage itself and not a display object on it,I have a movie clip on the main timeline with instance name displayName. I created a button that should change what frame displayName goes to (in order to...did you guess it?! diplay the Name of the button.So I am trying to write the code in a reusable fashion and have the buttons all linked to a class called GeoPuzzle. Inside GeoPuzzle I instantiate a touch event and run the code. However, the function has to be able to change displayName in the main part of the timeline and, of course, the compiler says displayName doesn't exist because I'm in a class and I'm talking about the stage.[code]How can I tell displayName to change it's current frame from within display object class?
View 9 RepliesI am using CS3. And this is all about understanding Identifier and Class from the symbol property under Linkage.
I read some articles where all are using class instead of attachMovie() method on TimeLine.
Its confusing to me and couldn't able to make it work.
The article I read says that attachMovie() method will be in class file.
I'm trying to change a varialbe in a seperate class from inside a movieclip that I have on the stage in the timeline, but the variable I'm trying to change keeps coming up as null instead of what I am trying to change it to. How is this usually done?
View 6 RepliesI have a movieClip named MC, and it's enabled with action script, with the class name MC_Rectangle and a Stage.I override the MC_Rectangle class file in a mc_rectangle.as external file.here is the code:
package{
import flash.display.*;
import flash.events.*;[ code].....
I have new a object in the main stage var
mc_rect:MC_Rectangle = new MC_Rectangle()
in main stage:
1. how can i access the variable "sequence" in "mc_rect"
2. how can i pass parametre from main stage to mc_rect via function setSequence(data:int)?
3. how can i call the function in addSequence() in mc_rect.
in asp.net, i usually use mc_rect.sequenct,mc_rect.setSequence(data), mc_rect.addSequence() to achieve my goals......btw, can function in mc_rect return out result to main stage?
I have a class called shapeC that only creates a rectangle and then addChild(rectangle);. That class is instantiated on the main timeline. Currently, the only way you can see that rectangle is to add the instantiated class to the stage via addChild(shapeC);. My question is, is there a way that the shapeC class can add the rectangle to the root stage without requireing the instantiated class to be added to the stage?
View 4 Repliesfound that code to display html format text to dynamic textfield in as3:
var url:String = "http://edeejay.dyndns.org:8000/currentsong?sid=1";
var loadit:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
loadit.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);
[code].....
I have a library swf (asset.swf), it's document class binded to Asset.as, and in the Constructor function of Asset,[code]as known to all, we cannot visit the stage attribute before the display object added to the stage.so, when my loader.swf try to load asset.swf, it throws exception and the loading come to failure is there some one tell me how to load the asset.swf? I cannot modify the asset.swf.
View 0 RepliesOk, this is one of those walls that I know once I can jump over it, I will be a much happier developer again.
I've done tons of reading, and think I have a firm understanding that the general consensus is that if you want to reference something, it needs to be added to the display list, using addChild().
I hate to be defiant, but what if I don't want to?
Or at the very least, what if I want to add a movieclip class to the stage using addChild, and then reference objects inside it?
It is much easier this way than what most people recommend - adding 15 objects via addChild, then setting the x and y for the, etc.
That said, I'm all about using classes and using as3 the way it was meant to be used. So what this is, is a best practices question I guess.
HERE ARE THE STEPS I'M TRYING:
- Create new flash document
- Draw graphic symbol bg, with text field over it, select them, convert to movieclip symbol, and export class name "box", then delete it from stage
- Add document class .as file, which simply adds that class "box" from the library, to the display list using a simple addChild()
- Set a name for that box using box.name = "test" let's say
- Do a simple trace like the following - "getChildByName('test').textFieldName" - it shows up great
- So then, I'll now try to set the text by doing this - getChildByName('test').textFieldName.text = "yo";
That last line above, is what doesn't work. I know I'm referencing wrong, but how would a pro as3 developer, reference something on the stage within a movieclip class, from the document class?
I'm just now learning the new object oriented way of scripting. It's been a wild ride, but I've finally learned how to keep script off my frames (very hard coming from as2).Here's my problem:
I have a TextField on the stage in my main .fla file named loadPercent.
I'm loading a jpg with preLoad.as and displaying the bytes loaded in loadPercent.
I can access my loadPercent TextField from my MainClass
but I can't access it from preLoad.as
the document class is MainClass.as
Code:
package
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;[code]....
I get three '#1120 access of undefined propery' errors for each time i try to access loadPercent.
a few basic questions: 1. all my files are in a folder in my documents, not in the flash directory, is this bad? I've seen people using com.whatever etc.
2. my main .fla file does not share the same name as my MainClass.as (it's not named MainClass.fla) Is that a problem?
I'm assuming these are inconsequential because my code seems to work up to a certain point.
Using Flash CS5 Professional I have created a symbol, dragged it onto the stage, and given it an instance name of GreenLight1. If I want to make this visible from the document class, I can simply do the GreenLight1.visible=true; and poof it's good to go when I test the file. As long as I stay in the document class I am good to go, but now I'm trying to move to another class and hitting ALL kinds of trouble just trying to get Flash to allow me to access this simple object. All I am looking to do is have this GreenLight1 go invisible (visible=false) when a certain condition occurs in this new class and Flash just won't let me access GreenLight1 at all. Things I've tried thus far:
stage is passed to the class and is referenced by _stage and is working just fine when I do _stage.addchild or anything like that. So I have tried "_stage.GreenLight1.visible=false;" and I get "ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property GreenLight1 not found on flash.display.Stage and there is no default value." My document class extends Sprite, so I figured I'd try the root function. So I tried "Sprite(root).GreenLight1.visible=false;" and I get "1119: Access of possibly undefined property GreenLight1 through a reference with static type flash.display:Sprite." I tried to create the Resource class as described therein. To which I came across the same problem that I started with in that it doesn't know what GreenLight1 is to begin with so I got "1120: Access of undefined property GreenLight1." Here is my code for Resource.as (am I supposed to pass something to this class from the document class?)
[Code]...
And i cant figure it out.the "my.fla.class"content looks like this
Code:
package my_fla
{
[code].....
i have this code (from another thread), which was got through the support of fellow geniuses on this forum but they showed how to put this into a textfield, which is what i want to do, but they showed how to do it before I made it display just the news feeds. So when i tryed to add what they taught me to this code BAM FAIL! So im asking one more/THE LAST TIME for the support from the forum to display this.

Im making a swf that makes a Tween of 3 textFields, when i export it for flash Player 10 it works right. But as soon as i export it for Flash Player 9 or play it on a machine with Flash Player 9, everything works right except the TextField, it just doesn't display but doesn't throw any error. Even the TweenEvent gets dispatched like if it had worked right.I've been debugging it and all the variables are present and with correct values. Is there an issue of TextField or Tween compatibility with Flash Player 9??, NOTE: Currently Working with CS4
ActionScript Code:
var titulos:Array=new Array();

Does anyone know of an XML utility Class that will "auto-format" XML to display within a textField? Just looking for a down-n-dirty solution to display the entire XML tree (via xml.toXMLString()) within a textBox, but would love to find a utility that would format the XML so that it's easier to read within a textField.
Something like:
Code:
<forecast
segment="A"
day_segment="Afternoon"
day_of_week="4"
[Code]....
Is this at all possible? I'm trying to write raw XML (tags, attributes, indents and all) in a text field. The problem is that the text field is using .htmlText, for text coloring, so I cannot simply use the .text property instead. The result is that the XML tags are interpreted as HTML and subsequently only their contents are shown.
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to build a shuffle function that somebody gave me into my card game. I two external .as classes; one is Shuffle.as, which is my document class, and the other is card.as. I'm building the shuffling function into Shuffle.as. I think I'm getting close to making it work, but there are some problems. I keep getting this error message: "5000: The class 'Shuffle' must subclass 'flash.display.MovieClip' since it is linked to a library symbol of that type." Here is my code. Shuffle.as code

I have drawn a textfield (instance name - my_Text) onto the stage. In my actions I have a variable (called 'myFrame') which is an 'int' and the value is a number drawn from an xml feed. Now when I trace the variable 'trace(myFrame)' the correct number displays into the output window. However, when I try to display this variable, using 'myText.text = myFrame', an error occurs. How do I display this integer into a textfield?
View 2 RepliesI'm using loop to create 4 textfields, and push an string array with 4 items. I can trace the correct result in output but show on the stage. [code]...
View 3 RepliesI tried to display HTML content in a text field using its htmlText property.But it is not displaying correctly.I have attached here my current output (incorrect.jpg) and how it should looks like(correct.jpg).
Here is html data

I have a textfield (the one that shows ammo) that doesent display all numbers. U have uploaded the swf. The code that I used to make the textfiled display some text is:
ActionScript Code:
function checkAmmo(e:Event){
var percentAmmo:Number = curAmmoInClipFirst/clipSizeWep1*100;
if (curAmmoInClipFirst >= 0){
trace(curAmmoInClipFirst);
ammoLeftBar.bar.scaleY = percentAmmo/100
} else {
Char.reloadGun();
} ammoLeftBar.ammoLeftNumber.text = curAmmoInClipFirst.toString() + " / " + clipSizeWep1.toString();
}}}
Which is triggered onEnterFrame.
I can't access a variable on a the stage from within a movieclip thats placed on the stage.
View 4 RepliesI am trying to display a text field that has text inside it, and display the flashing Caret at the end of the text. I have tried the following:
Code:
// ti_title is my textField
stage.focus = ti_title;
ti_title.setSelection( ti_title.length, ti_title.length );
[code]....
The field is focused because I can type into it, but I do not see a Caret until I have started typing. This is not very good for usability.
I have even tried removing text then re-adding it and then setting the selection again, but still not working.
