I'm making a simple game just to get to know actionscript 3 and flash a little better. The objective of the game is to guess a radom number with 10 tries available to do it.My question is: I'm trying to make a list of the numbers the player has already choosen. The code worked perfectly the only problem is that the first time the code is executed it types "null" before what it is meant to type.
Here is what i want to do contextually. I am making an interactive skeletal diagram of a back, each vertebrae is an independent button. As each button is rolled over, i want a box next to the button to show with the name of the vertebrae inside it.
How I am trying to do it:Each button is independent, as inside it is a bitmap picture of the skeletal section. All of the boxes are instances of a single movie clip located on the same timeline level as the buttons.. instances named BBox1, BBox2... through BBox26. Inside each movie clip i have a symbol that is the box named 'sbox' which is the graphic box that pops up and in the layer above a dynamic text box, named 'ttext' which is populated at runtime with the proper text to reference the button.
I am easily able to reference each sbox symbol individually from outside the movie clip... i.e._root.skel.BBox1.sbox._alpha = 0;.
I am not having the same luck with the ttext dynamic text. I am wanting to set the text inside each instance of BBox progmatically, but the text will not show unless i set it to static and type it manually before compile(in which case the text for all 26 boxes is the same). I have tried all methods of reference, even prepopulating the dynamic text box with text before compiling and it still shows nothing. This does not seem like a coding issue but a use of dynamic text inside a replicated movie clip with unique instance names.
I am trying to make a text effect where the colours fill up inside the logo lettering as if water was being poured in. Is there a way of doing this either by Actionscript or some form of advanced masking perhaps?
I bought Flash recently and I'm getting started on making a game, a platform shooter game, thing. What I have, is a button on the main stage that I want to activate a function in an instance. But that instance is inside a symbol. So it's Stage->Character->Gun. But if I put down:
Shoot.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, Fire); //Shoot is the button on the stage function Fire(evt:MouseEvent):void{ Derp(); //This being the function I want to be activated }
This is the code in the Gun instance: function Derp():void{ //epic code goes here }
It will give me an error saying "1180: Call to a possibly undefined method Derp." So basically it's telling me it can't get to this code because it's not on the same stage. How can I get an instance to be recognized by all code in my project, regardless of we're it is in the project? I want to keep all my symbols where they are, so external ActionScript file won't be good if I have to recreate the object on the stage.
Is it possible to have a textfield with a Dummy text (for animation purpose) and then replace that one text from XML? When i try to do it i only get the letters from the Dummy text to te there if the dummy text has the same or some letters that the XML text have.
If my dummy text is hello and my xml text it sweden i only see " e e " when i run the flash file.
Could someone please outline the proper syntax for formatting text in a dynamically created texfield using actionscript 3 please? I understand the textColor but for some reason txtfld.textFont = "Verdana"; doesnt work for me.
There's a movieclip, lets call it myMovieClip. Inside this movieclip there is a dynamic text box, lets call this one myText. Now to change the text within this text box that is embedded in a movieclip, it's simply:

Every attempt to D/Load results in the correct dimensions, height and width, but it just gives me empty white space.
I have a problem with a button.It has 4 keyframe and a text field with the same instance name "myText".I use this button in a MC, and its instance name is "myBtn".I'm trying to change myText with actionscript in the MC without any results.Debugging it I find a text field insiede this button named "instance6", so i think there is some problem with instance name.
I trying with: trace(myBtn.myText); and it says "undefined"!
How can i correctly give instance name to this text field?Is there any way to find out the name of the instance of an object (the text field) knowing the instance name of its parent (the button)?
I need application with input text box and a button, user is able to write into the input text box, and when he press button, the written text will save on a text format file on server (like a notepad with .txt extension) and if this file exist before new information will over write!
I have 2 input textfields on the stage and 1 dynamic textfield.
-input1 is for quantity
-input2 is for page count
When a user enters a number into the page count it makes a calculation and places the outcome into the dynamic textfield. This textfield is for the individual price.All of this so far works. What I want to do now is create another dynamic textfield for the total. So the individual price is multiplied by the quantity and this result is put in the new dynamic text field. I have the code for that working but here is where it gets tricky (for me anyway).The total price is to start off invisible. When I roll over the individual price the total price is to appear (For a test lets just say when I roll over an area the total price appears).To stop cursor flickering this should be done inside a movieclip. So... I have create a movieclip and placed a dynamic textfield inside it. They all have instance names BUT how do I reference it in script?I need to tell the resulting calculation to be placed inside the textfield which is inside the movieclip. If it isn't inside a movie clip I can do it. But how to I reference it when inside one?

I want to import an html file that contains just plain tet inside of a dynamic text box. The things that I have tried jus tmake the html file pop-up as a new page, but i want the information inside of that textbox.
I'm making an activity where you drag and drop text (in mc's) into a specific column. There are two columns, the left is for workplace responsibility the right side is for personal responsibility. I've made the actionscript so that I can drop multiple targets into any of the correct spaces they're supposed to go to and I want the text to appear in that particular spot.
At the moment I have dynamic text, and when the text/mc is dropped into the box I have the code (textOne.text=event.target.name) - and so the instance name shows, but since you cant have whitespace in the instance names its not formatted the way I want it.

How should vector artwork be drawn in Freehand so that white details sitting over a blue base are still readable when alpha of e.g. 50% is applied in Flash 8 ? In Freehand 9 I created a logo. Logo has an rgb mix blue base rectangle and rgb white drawn shapes on top. I also drew over the text and gave it the rgb blue as a fill with line none. That sits on top of one of the white shapes.
I have a website i designed which contains buttons that navigate the user to different points on the timeline using frame labels. when they get to the appropriate frame label, they are presented with a movieclip containing two layers. The bottom layer is a map, and the upper layer is a collection of printer buttons that have a tooltip component on them that show you detailed printer info on mouse over and takes you to the printer remote ui on release. each button has a unique queue name for the appropriate printer as its instance name (ex. itm100_btn). Here's the jist... I want to be able to place a dynamic text box near the printer button and using action script have it display the printer queue name automatically simply based on the button its targeting, or even placing the dynamic txt box inside the printer button mc. See, on some pages, there are like 24 printers... I DREAD having to put all these names in manually as there are like 150 printers total
