I was trying to develop a system where instances of an object can only be created using static functions. Setting the constructor to private gave me the following error: 1153: A constructor can only be declared public.

I have a function in main that I would like to access in light_mc. I have set it up so main stores "this" in a variable called instance so I can easily access the functions within main.

No idea what I'm doing wrong here, it just won't let me access any of my public methods on my class. I just keep getting "Error 1180: call to a possibly undefined method"!

I am going through the book gameprogramming university and checked to make sure my code matched.
I am using 2 classes the main class attached to the timeline, and an airplane class that contains a symbol in the library with different frames.

I'm working with eclipse, blazeds and Flex Plugin, and every time I create a Web Dynamic Project then add a Flex Project Nature to it this error: "An unknown item is declared as the root of your mxml document" appears just as the perspective view changes and I click on the design mode. As far as I know the only lines of code written on the screen are the standard in any other program, but I'll put here anyway so you can have a go at it if there's something realyy wrong and I didn't see:

I have declared some public static consts within a class Instrument. So that I can hopefully access them like Instrument.SAX, instrument.HARP, etc. etc. But when I go to trace out or compare the consts, it gives me this error:

I have the below script as part of a small application I'm building. The script just creates cue-points along a movies timeline so we can add events etc to those cue-points.

It's creating the cue-points well, although I'd like to use the below variable outside of this function.
Code: var stampName When I try and use it I get an access of undefined property error, which I believe relates to the variables being private and within the function - but I can't seem to find a method to get this varibale public.
I'm having a problem using superclass constructor with arguments. I've searched all over for the solution and found some really useful advice. Problem is i;ve followed it and it doesn't work... not for me anyway. So i've learned that you need to callthe super constructor in the subclass' constructor to avoid this error. problem is, this code still gets the same error....

I have an image gallery with thumbnails and a previous button and next button. "nextPrevPosition:Number" starts out with the value of 0 and increases or decreases by 1 every-time the previous or next buttons are pressed. The thumbnails assign a value when those are pressed:

all works fine except when NextPrevPosition reaches the original value 0...and this is when I get the error message. It looks like the line "currentPort = new(POSITION[nextPrevPosition] as Class)(); is when it is happening.

Using this as the document class for a separate fla file, i'm getting this error when the movie is exported:

what i'm trying to do is get a movie to duplicate movieclips when the original movieclip is dropped onto a target.what it does is,
1. click, drag movie clip to target.
2. drop, released.
3. duplicate movieclip appears in the ORIGINAL position from where the original movieclip was picked up.
4. and keep the dropped movieclip in place.
i don't know why i get,
