I have declared some public static consts within a class Instrument. So that I can hopefully access them like Instrument.SAX, instrument.HARP, etc. etc. But when I go to trace out or compare the consts, it gives me this error:
1058: property is write-only

Is it possible to add my own custom property to the flash.display.Bitmap using a public static method? I'm trying to write a bitmap utility that does something to a bitmap, and stores a Number property onto it afterwards.

I'm still learning AS3.0 OOP, I think that this can't be done with this method. I think I have to make a new Class that extends 'Bitmap', add the prop there, and then in the Main.as make a new instance of that class, point to the target Bitmap, and run the method in the extended 'Bitmap' class (?).
I'm tryng to make a public static method call another method, but Flash throws error 1180, sayng that the method called by the static method is undefined.
I am working on a Flash site template for which I am implementing the possibility for the users to change the theme dynamically while the site is opened.Basically, the site will have a few themes available and when the user selects a new theme, all of the site objects will change their properties (colors, alpha, fonts, etc) to fit the new theme.
And my questions is what is the best approach to sending the theme information to all of the objects in the site.I was thinking of making a static class called "Theme" and when the objects need a property, they will call a static getter of the Theme class that will return the appropriate property value for the object.But, from my understanding, static properties are quite slow and seeing that I may need quite a lot of them, maybe more that 100 for the whole site, will this approach be too slow ?
I am trying to set some public static constants on a class conditionally by passing variables to the compiler e.g. -define=CONFIG::ENVIRONMENT,'testing_server'

I have a class ErrorMessages which holds all my error messages as static constants. So I could access them like ErrorMessages.PASSWORD_INVALID or ErrorMessage.PASSWORD_TOO_SHORT. I want to know if it is possible to have separate classes that hold subset of these constants and access them like ErrorMessages.PASSWORD.INVALID or ErrorMessages.PASSWORD.TOO_SHORT, etc. This way I can more structured static structure and makes it much easier to use autocomplete. I tried few different ways and couldn't figure out if this was possible..
I have two Cairngorm MVC Flex applications (a full version and lite version of the same app) that share many Classes. I have put these Classes into a Flex Library Project that compiles as an SWC. Both applications use some static String constants. Right now, I am storing these in the ModelLocator:

I am trying to get the value of a text field which is created by the user pushing a pin-pad. This text field is a string which is joined() from an Array of the sequence of pin-pad entries. Now my problem is that Flash will not convert the .text text field into a string with which I can use the value to convert to a Number and perform math on it.
But I get an error for "selected" property that i used in my checkBox. the error says : Access of possibly undefined property selected through a reference with static type TrashContainer_inlineComponent1.

I have a site with ScrollPanes, that are calling a Class on what to display. (so the movieclip that I want displayed in the ScrollPane has a Class name.) Within that movieclip (webScroll) that is being displayed in the scrollpane, I have 2 other movieclips (web1 & web2), with unique instance names and eventlisteners targeting those instances. when I preview my site, i get this error: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property web2 through a reference with static type Class.
My teacher gave a demo in class and I'm using the same AS but I keep getting error 1119: Access of possibly undefined property kbBox through a reference with static type flash.displayisplayObject.I don't understand b/c I'm using all the same variables and instance names, etc. as the working file but my file gets this error. The only thing I'm trying to do is to get the dynamic text and progress bar to show up that is loading from an external preloader file.
I'd like to make an object that has it's properties named by constants from another class but can't quite get it to work. I'd essentially like to do something like this: var myObject:Object = {Event.OPEN:"value", Event.COMPLETE:"value2"}; This syntax causes compiler errors.
Is it possible to call/envoke a public static function from JS? I can't seem to get it working and Im almost certain it cannot but I thought I would ask the community.

I'm setting up a class of public static vars that are to be BitmapData.
The problem I'm having is I can't seem to reference the vars dynamically in an array, making it impossible to give them values without some serious procdedural style coding.
Should I assume it's because my array is a private var and placing references to public static vars is illegal? Is somebody gonna call the flash police on me?
I'm literally new in AS3 and slowly trying to migrate in thats why im here seeking for help. Can someone help me how to access/control a certain public variable in a loaded swf from the main swf? this problem has been paralyzing me for days. (sigh...) [code]...
Im just starting to get my hands into Action Script v2, and Im having a really hard time working out what the difference is between Public, Private and Static Variables, it seems that declaring variables in these types makes no difference what so ever to the avaliablility of my variables... Could someone be so kind as to put me on the right path?
I have a question about classes. I just learn that static means that functions and/or properties are specifics to a class, but is it a synonym of private? And why statics (not available to any instances?) properties and/or methods can have a public (available anywhere else (timeline)) access modifier? PS: I just start with classes.
I have a custom class called RichButton. It throws a custom event, featuring the line

so far so simple right? But now i get the 1119 error Access of undefined property BUTTON_CLICKED though a refernece with static type Class. Here's the odd part- I can use the class as normal, and access any of its public methods/properties. If i move the RichButton.as from my shared code folder into my project folder (alonside my swf and flashDevelop project files) it works fine. I have exactly the same (as fr as i can tell) structure running in another project and it works perfectly. I've tried cutting and pasting across and trying to find what i;ve done differently but no luck.
