ActionScript 3.0 :: Limit The Scope Of DragWindow() Function?

Jul 14, 2010

I have the standard dragWindow function in an app I am building:

private function dragWindow(evt:MouseEvent):void
{
stage.nativeWindow.startMove();
}

I want to limit the "scope" of this function such that it is not enabled within specified components, e.g. datagrids, scrollable lists, etc.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Changing The Scope Of A Function?

Jul 3, 2007

Here is the script:

Code:
function delay(pFunc:Function):Void {
this.onEnterFrame = function() {
pFunc(param);[code]....

It's stripped down to reproduce my issue.I want to change the scope of the event, so that when test is called, it traces "_level0 instead of "[object Object". I was thinking Delegate.create() would be the way to go, but I can't figure out how to get that to work within the scope of this function.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Pass The Scope Of One Class To The Function Of Another

Oct 5, 2011

[Code]...

Specifies the value of thisObject to be used within any function that ActionScript calls. This method also specifies the parameters to be passed to any called function. Because apply() is a method of the Function class, it is also a method of every Function object in ActionScript. i don't get how "thisObject" is accessible from within the function invoked with it's apply method i'm trying to pass the scope of one class to the function of another so that the keyword "this" in the target function refers to the passed scope or am i misunderstanding the apply() method? it appears to behave differently between as2.0 and as3.0 as well, try this example code from the adobe docs

CS3 LINES Per FUNCTION LIMIT?

Jun 23, 2009

I have a function ( basically its the click on a reset buttons ) that sets back quite a loooooot of variables and text boxes. But after ( I think 200 lines ) , actionscript simply stops with that particular function and doesnt even give me an error.So it looks like there is a lines per function limit or something like that.I also tried it with an external .as but its the same.Creating functions for all these commands didnt work either.The only thing I can do is move a few lines up so that they get processed earlier.... ( but the last few still don't work )I even tried to make a function with 300 lines of myTextField.text = "hello"and a line: myTextField.text = "how are you" at the endDidnt work... it stayed at hello.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Maximum Limit To Put IF Else Statement In Function?

Jul 2, 2009

I'm wondering if there is a limit as to how may if else you can put in a function. I have a form that never seems to fire the last if else on the first load. It will work once I've run through the form, and all of the times after that, but never on the first try. In other words, when I test the form for the first time, if # 5 never kicks in. But after the form has sent, I can run the form again and if # 5 will work like I want it to. I did add .tabIndex to the form because it wouldn't originally tab the way I wanted it to and I wondered if this might be part of the problem. I also tried moving the if else statements around, but that didn't seem to make any difference. Does it only read 4 if's at a time?

Here's the code:
// add evenlistener for submit buttonsubmit_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, ValidateAndSend);
function ValidateAndSend(event:MouseEvent):void{
// if #1
if(company_txt.text ==""){
company_name_mc.gotoAndPlay("red");

ActionScript 3.0 :: Learning About Scope And Packages

Jul 15, 2009

I have made a script, and now has come the point when I need to use removechild. Whenever I try this I get an error. After looking at the problem, I think I need to learn more about scope and packages. I think if I put everything in the correct scope, I will be able to use the removechild command. I tried to make all my vars public, so that removechild would work, however I got an error that anything public needs to be in a package. I tried to add the package part to my script, but got the error that packages cant be nested. I tried some other things and still no luck, just more errors.

So, if anyone could point me to a tutorial, or recommend a book or something, that will help teach me about scope and packages, Or if you are feeling patient and generous, and you think you could explain this problem to a 5 year old, please explain it to me the way you would to said 5 year old. If you maybe think you can help me out on the script, it can be found here: [URL]

Actionscript 3 :: Scope Access To Just One Of Each Of The [i] Nodes?

Dec 26, 2009

I seem to have an array scope issue. I have a global variable; var itemConnect:Array = new Array(); Which is initialized at the start. I then have a function to populate it as a 2-d array:

[code]...

It seems to have scope access to just one of each of the [i] nodes, so [1][2], [1][3], [1][4] are missing - only the last [j] element appears. What is the correct way of doing this? I also don't know the exact size of the array at the start which may be an issue.

Actionscript 3 :: Accessing/Scope With Loading Xml?

Aug 23, 2010

OK, it's probably easiest now to explain my problem like this, I am able to write the name of my xml file that needs to be loaded to a dynamic textfield on the stage, however, I don't seem to be able to access it after this and strip the necessary data from it, here's my code:

var tf:TextField = new TextField();
tf.autoSize=TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT;
tf.border=true;
addChild(tf);

[Code]...

So all I want to do now is to be able to achieve the same thing but loading the xml with loadvars as I did before, from my traces it seems there is a scope issue, but I'm not sure why if "c1" can be referenced like it is above..?

Actionscript 3 :: Flex 4.5 Scope Between States?

May 29, 2011

I am creating an interface that has a few different states for the different steps. For those steps, there is data that I am pulling in from a database to fill certain fields. As of right now I am doing one db query to get all of the data back and want to fill in all of the fields at the same time but it is giving me "access to a null object reference".

It seems as though there is a scope issue when you are trying to access a text input field with actionscript when the state that the text input is in, isn't the current state.For Example (This would throw a "Null object reference" error):

<s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" minWidth="955" minHeight="600"
