ActionScript 3.0 :: Load Some Data Using Flashvars But Nothing Is Working?
Dec 18, 2010I'm trying to load some data using flashvars but nothing is working.
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to load some data using flashvars but nothing is working.
View 6 RepliesIm new to placing external data into Flash. I just got CS3 and Im trying to use Flash to dynamically load XML data via a FlashVars call in the HTML.
The problem is I have followed the very straight forward AS2 Help files for using FlashVars and URL variables.I have placed the code directly from the Help file into the Html between
<noscript> <noscript>and i keep getting undefined.I have tried saving the file as flash 8 and i am publish flash 8.
I went through many articles and tutorials and I can't get the FlashVars working.
I'm using the SWFObject to insert the Flash movie into HTML:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="en" xml:lang="en">
<head>
[Code]....
But the aname variable doesn't exists in the Flash. Even if I loop through all the param values, there is nothing. I tried to add the "aname" into query and it's working. But I really want and need to use FlashVars.
The full source is available here: [URL]
I've been searching everywhere and I can't find a solution. I use swfobject and flashvars and whenever I use flashvars the dynamic text color won't change. If I put my variable inside the fla timeline, the text color changesHere is my setRGB code:
Code:
var c:Color = new Color(button4.txt);
c.setRGB(0xffffff);
[code]....
I created a flash menu that highlight the current page button reading a variable coming from HTML. I've set a variable in the OBJECT and EMBED tag using the query string syntax, but I get identical results using flashvars. This menu is working perfectly in firefox, but it doesn't in opera or IE 6. In opera it only works if all buttons are vector objects (?!?!?!?):it doen't work if I import a PNG in the buttons. I've put an IF statement (I already tried to use the SWITCH statement with same results) on the very first frame in the menu movie.

i have a file named: 394354.html. In it is the following code:
codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/s...ersion=9,0,0,0" width="900" height="900" id="LoaderExample" align="middle">
<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
<param name="allowFullScreen" value="false" />
[Code]...
That is part of the source in the LoaderExample.swf. And all I get is a "Parameter text must be non-null" error. I've alternatively tried the FlashVars method using additional <param> and <object> tags but i get the same error. What is going on with Actionscript 3? is this a bug? What am I doing wrong? Do the 5 or 6 tutorials i've read leave some important detail out ?
I've followed about 10 different tutorials to access FlashVars including this one ([URL]) and nothing is working for me. Here is my as3 code:

I created a same script of calling my flashvars in actionscript 3. But when I tried to display my flashvar in actionscript 2, its not working. I did the same thing in calling and embedding the swf. But it's displaying undefined..
Here's the block of code...
import flash.external.ExternalInterface;
import flash.events.Event;
var xmlFilePath:String;
try {
var keyStr:String;
[Code] .....
I was just trying to display the value of the flashvar. I tested it in the browser but it's still not working.
I have a flex app that I need to pass FlashVars into. It works great on desktop browsers(chrome, firefox, ie) but for some reason the flashvar is always undefined when i load it on my Android browser(webkit on a droid incredible).
Has anyone successfully passed flashvars into a swf on an Android Device?
I have a problem with flashvars , when I read the url from browser if I have assigned just numbers to Id (my paramter in url) ,everything works fine, but if my id includes character, then it does not work , I don't want to change anything in flash side in mxml files, I want to do it with javascript
here is my code
<script type="text/javascript">
function getQueryVariable(variable)

I am retrieving an flashvars object from JSP file. Like userid = mx.core.Application.application.parameters.userJspid;like this it is retrieving in IE browser. But not in FF (Mozilla), why it's not retrieving is there any code i need to add it for Mozilla specially.

I have a Flash file containing a floor plan over my office. I want visitors to be able to locate the room for a specific person by clicking on the room nr.In my HTML-code I give the FlashVars a value equal to the chosen person's room number like this:
<param name="FlashVars" value="roomNr=G207" />
Then I have the script in my Flash file where I first declare a variable fetching the value from my FlashVars:
myRoom = roomNr;
After that I have the code to produce a different color to a movieclip, thus indicating which room it is:
import flash.geom.ColorTransform;
var myCT:ColorTransform = new ColorTransform();
myCT.rgb = 0x009900;
I have made a movieclip for each room and named their instances like the values that will be passed when selecting a room.For instance: G207, F106E, U123 and so on. let the instance name of a movieclip be the value from my FlashVars which I declared earlier. I wrote the next line:
myRoom.transform.colorTransform = myCT;
BUT... this will not work. I have tried two things to understand the problem:
1. I put a dynamic text field on stage, naming it and assigning its text to be the value from FlashVars:
testTextField.text = roomNr;
And it works perfect. It gets the correct value and writes it out on stage.
2. I tried to hard code the myRoom variable to be equal to G207 (myRoom = G207; ), and that works fine as well.WHY won't it recognise my FlashVars value as an instance name of a movieClip?
I am dealing with the HTML page where my flash movie is embedded.
So I have a JavaScript function called getURLVar() that returns a string (a variable passed in the HTML page by the URL). That part works.
What I want to do is call that JavaScript function so I can pass its results into the flashVars property where you embed your .swf.
The following does not work
<embed src="MainPage.swf" flashVars="myFlashVar=<script language="'Javascript'>getURLVar()</script>" quality="high" menu="false" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" width="800" height="600" name="test" align="middle"

Using a syntax like this PHPode:FlashVars="datum=DAY_OF_MONTH" //DAY_OF_MONTH holds the date I get from the serverin my html file, that's calling the .swf I should be able to simply use datum as a variable in Flash. However that doesn't seem to work
View 9 RepliesI've got a weird problem with loading Flashvars into my flash application. I tried to isolate the code and try it in an other document, but the object returned is still empty.This is my HTML code:

I have a text box on my stage in Flash cs3 with a width of say 300px.The text box is populated with text/data from a flashvars variable in my HTML. If the text in my flashvars is too long (over 300px in length) it will be cut off when placed inside my text box in the embedded swf. Is there any sort of 'dynamic' solution to this?
View 3 Repliesi have this code in my flash doc and it's not working.
var my_xml_loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
my_xml_loader.load(new URLRequest(root.xml_path));
my_xml_loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, processXML);
i get this message:1119: Access of possibly undefined property xml_path through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObject.

What im trying to do is use Flashvars to load an url in to a loadMovie.
I have a blank movie in a html page and i want to use that same blank movie over and over again with out have to reopen the flash movie. but i need to movie to pull different .swf. and i that what i though that i would use the Flashvars for but i can get it to work...
I'm modifying someone's old AS 2 Flash application and I need to pass numeric data in as a string OR have a properly formatted USD currency string in the end.
Currently, I might pass something like Data1=$34,000.00&Data2=$12,344.18&etc...
in via FlashVars. Assuming I show Data1 in a dynamic input field, I'd get something like "$34,0"
I'm not too concerned whether this is a super clean, proper solution or a functional hack-like solution with this application. It's needed, but only for a short time.
I am trying to find a very good step by step tutorial on using "Flashvars" to load external mp3 files, I have been searching on google and the many I have found fall short in some way or another. From what I have been able to gather, I have tried using the code in red (commented out), which works, and modify it to use "Flashvars". The code that works, the mp3 file is hard coded, but my goal is to use "Flashvars" which I am attempting to do in the code following the code in red. I am also including the html code.

I'm using the following code to embed the swf and load a file via flashvars. It works fine in firefox...but does not work in IE. I'm convinced that the issue is in my html syntax. Can anyone spot the problem?
<script type="text/javascript">
swfobject.embedSWF("myflash.swf", "banner", "300", "300", "9.0.0", false, {}, {wmode: "transparent"},{flashvars: "xmlfile=http://www.mydomain.com/directory/file.xml"});
function closeAd(id){
document.getElementById(id).style.display='none';
}
</script>
I have never used flashVars, even in AS2, but the project I'm working on requires that I use since my client is going to use dynamic urls defined as expressions and he wants to have control without having to edit a fla file. I have read a lot of tutorials and can't seem to come up with a solution. Basically what I want is to load my Flashvars defined in swfObject, each one holding an expression, for example:

How will I accomplish the same thing in as3? I know you have to get flashVars using .loaderInfo but that as far as i got.
I have a fla file that i am using on my page, i want the twitter object to be embedded inside my fla but there is no direct link to the file. The twitter site will give me a code to paste, but the code has a general link and some flashvars info. How would i be able to embed into my fla if there is no direct link? If i use divs to place the object on top of my flash it blinks and sometimes will not show at all.
View 9 RepliesI set up a simple dynamic text on my stage.[code]...
How do I load this valueStr to my myText.text ?
We have implemented a Flash photo slideshow on our site and it works just fine for most of our users. Whenever the xml.load(success) returns false I have the Flash email me a debug report. For the life of me I can not find a common thread between all of these people having problems with the Flash. I don't think it's a cross-domain issue because it works for most people, and I have the crossdomain.xml files where they should be.

I have an Access Database (doesn't need to be Access, I can phpAdmin or mysql, whatever will work) that has a list of names. I want the user to open a Flash form and have the names load up into seperate input boxes for each name. The user can then change the names, move them, whatever, and then save the record. I want it to just overwrite the record. I donlt want create a new record. I cannot, for the life of me, figure this out. I have tried to find some tutorials but nothing makes sense. Is ASP a good way to go? I have been struggling with this for a week now.
