I'm trying to load external swf's with a drop menu, this menu it's a movie clip and I,m trying to controlling it with script out of the movie clip, the main button apparently works fine but the rest of the code fail. And i want to know how can i make a script for the sub menus.

But when that file loads into another SWF file, that containes a movieclip to hold the file that is being externally loaded, the methods are not working in that componentThis is the code of the component.

This is for mx 2004. How to load variables from an external txt file at the beginning of flash movie...At various keyframes in the scene the movie shows different forms for user to fill in into the TextInput components. As soon as these forms are shown, the TextInput components are pre-filled with default text (the variable values that were loaded, for example "Enter your title here"). I know how to do this in earlier versions easily with the Var variable but now I'm stuck. I've been trying to do something but I keep getting "undefined" in the TextInput.

I am trying to make a loader that will load 5 external swf. What im aiming for is one loads--> one plays--> one ends--> one unloads two loads--> two plays--> two ends--> two unloads ect..
i am having trouble getting to follow this sequence. Trace statements tell me they load but only the last displays
I've got some swf's that I want to be able to load in to an mc and for the swf's to fit to the size of the mc. This works with jpeg's but not swf's, maybe to do with the way they've been set up, but I can't change these swf sizes.The code I have, (that's from another thread) will load a jpeg and make this fit, but not an swf is:

I am currently working with Flex 4. I successfully use custom preloader by s:application ... preloader="path"..., but i want the preloader to load external file as well, can it do that? How can i call the variables in the preloader?

I want to do is a simple transition that allows to me start some function (at the external swf!) to dismount the LOADED content. I'm building a top view 2D map, that it's objects are stored on the server.The kind of objects are 10 and might be a photo, label, button, lists, mix of them or labels with tooltips.The component must request the "areas" that are missing on screen.An area is 1000x1000 px and is cached in flex.To move in the map, will be like in google maps (drag-and-drop).I should be able to have another list and move objects from one to another using drag-an-drop on objects. Ex.: I grab an objects from a list and I move it on this map, I release the mouse button and the item is placed there.Now the problem is: I build a custom component for this trying to emulate the item renderer for performance and recyclage, implement drag-and-drop on objects and request the areas that are missing?

I extend the List component from spark and I add some features as multiple kind of itemrenderers and use recycle on them. Of course it must be able to request the missing areas on the screen and cache it's data.Maybe create a custom layout is needed too.What I need is something that must be really fluid, so the lighter this component is, the better.

I have created a Box component and inside it I have more then 2-3 labels placed. I need to drag the whole box component and move to different place at canvas. Technically Box type is a container type but I need to keepit all the labels inside and want to move it. Is there any way we can do that? UPDATED : Can we create any external component that allow us to drag the main box?
I need to drag the child component in the parent such a way that the child component can replace the place they have in parent. E.g. If I have a 3 button a,b,c inside a panel and need to movie the position of a,b,c with drag and drop the placement could be b, a, c or c, a, b and so on.
I have a combo box on the stage in a main SWF. when the user selects an item in the dropdown list a child SWF is launched into level0 using loadMovieNum and data is left behind using _global variables for the child SWF to use. this works fine and well. but inside the new child SWF that is launched is a button that takes you back to the previous main SWF with the ComboBox. its done using the same method loadMovieNum into level0. and the main SWF loads but you cannot open the ComboBox. it will not drop down. the halo green color on hover over is there and it gets darker when you click, but the list doesn't drop down. here is some code that I think may be significant to the situation...
i'm trying to repopulate a list when you select a new category from a drop down component.
So far i can populate the category drop down and i can also populate the list box from a default dir but i can't seem to get the list to change when you select a new category.

I am trying to make a drop down menu for my website navigation. Right now my navigation is just text and I want to have drop down on only a few links. I only want to have text no shapes as buttons just text.
I'm having issues with the following menu. I've been adapting a script from eveloper/actionscript/xml_dropdown_menu.htm into actionscript 3. When I get to the last level of the menu it won't link properly. It always takes the last url of the bunch as the url for all links in that branch of the tree.
I need to find an action script that tells a random movie clip scene to play... You see I have a movie clip with two frames ( each with "stop" in the AS), but when I export the film, I want it to randomly pick which of the two frame to show
