View 5 Repliesso first off, this is AS 2.0. Second, i have a little character from a tutorial on how to move an object around with the arrow keys. The character faces on way on "up" another on "down" and so forth. There are 4 frames for it facing up, down, left, and right so that on the key presses it faces the proper direction and moves accordingly. I also want this little guy to move behind objects. When this happens, i want the object that the little guy is behind to be partially transparent so that you can still see him and he doesnt just vanish.

In Fash CS3, suddenly, in certain files, I can't move an object left using arrow keys - but I can move the same object right, or if I hold down Shift + left arrow, it works correctly Also - I can move the object down with arrow keys, but not up Workaround - move an object on a different layer, then return to the problem object and it moves correctly. But this doesn't last long, the problem resurfaces.(I've tried rebooting; tried copying all the layers into a new file.

Here's my situation, I'm making a stick fighting game, where this stick figure fights others. I have the basic moves done inside a mc. I just tried to use Kirupa's tutorial on how to animate that bug with the keyboard arrow keys, but it didn't work. It moved the whole screen. All I want to do, is when you press the left or right arrow keys, the movements (the mc's name) move to the left/right. I attached the .fla. The basic controls are the left arrow animates it left, the right animates it right, and the enter key makes him punch.

It has 3 movement. 1 is a forward walk, 2 is a duck and 3 is a backwards walk. Now I can move the character but I cant keep the animation going. Is there something I'm missing??

i'm attempting to make a platform game, i know how to move left and right with the arrow keys, but that's quite boring. i want to move my character based only on the x movement of my mouse. the more i move my mouse in a certain direction, the faster the character moves in that direction. i've been trying to modify the x-speed on my character based on a x value of the mouse, but nothing is working.
preferably, i want a code that keeps my cursor at the center of the screen, while still being able to detect x movements of the mouse. i'd copy paste code from my program, but i'm fairly confident that doing so will serve no purpose. i need a new direction. i have no idea how to do this.

Doing flash interface project with only the 4 arrow keyboard keys and the "a" key as the activater! No mouse allowed!!I have created movie clips which have a roll over affect created by an array but i now want to make these movie clips into button which can be selected using the arrow keys and the "a" button. When a person presses the left key I want the object to face left and perform an animation for as long as the left key is pressed. When the left key is released I want the animation to go back to it's starting frame but the MC should still be facing left. I want the same thing for the other arrow keys, but the animations will be different for each direction (for example: walk right, walk left, walk away from you, walk towards you).

I have a simple flash project with a TV and a remote control. right now there are arrow buttons on the remote control that i have setup so that when you click on the button it goes to another frame. now my client wants it also setup so that when they hit the arrow buttons (up, down, etc) that it goes to a certain frame.

Basically it's a ball movie clip that responds to the arrow key but on the up key it plays a bouncing movieclip and everything remains aligned.

The clip has an instance name of red_mc. It doesn't work though? Also, if I want to have a yellow instance to work off "j" and "k" keys, do I just copy and paste the code above?
I try to create a MovieClip that i can move with the arrow keys. That worked with:

Now I tried to limit the area where I can move this MovieClip "cursor_mc". I found a lot of solutions but those where always solutions where the limitation zone was a rectangular. I was looking for a solution where I can create a "cursorlimit_mc" MovieClip and as long as the "cursor_mc" clip is inside of this clip I can move it with my keys. If it isnt possible to limit that, maybe I can create more than just 4 points and draw the limitation szone?
I have two scenes in flash - when you go to scene 2 there is a eventListener attached to the stage to move a movieclip. When I test the movie the only way the keyboard listener seems to work is if I click on the stage first, then the object will move. Is there a solution to this. The code I am using is:
