I'm trying to load a xml file into my model class. I am loading it with a load class definied in the model.
I am calling the load class from the document class. If i then try to trace the object and the xml varibale I get a NULL value.

I am a new flash developer and I cannot seem to understand this problem. Whenever I try and trace one of these variables of type XMLList they all return NULL except for the last one in the array.The createDatsSets() function is designed to pull XMl data and copy it to an variable of type XMLList which resides in an array. This should happen 8 times to add data to all 8 variables.It works fine with a single variable but, in the for statement when.I try and trace any of the variables in the xmlList array only the last one has XML data in it.

So when I attach the objects to the stage y property takes the first y values. When I want to change the y value to the send y value I am only accessing the last value in the list.[code]...
What is the process for feeding XMLList values to a URLRequest method?

I have an XMLList 'Keywords', which consists of about 30 elements. I want to count the number of unique keywords in the List, and how often they occur. Then display the top 3 most occuring keywords.

When I trace the value of siteStructureXml from within the class instance it shows the expected xml data. When I try to assign the value to a variable returnedXml defined on the timeline of my movie, it's value traces as null. I've a feeling it's something blindingly obvious..

the script i wrote is working fine. but the script attached to the flash player which i have no control over is throwing a script error (im using IE8).how can i fix this? if i run it locally there is no error.

I have create a menu but when clicking on menu so that it shows, I get an error on the line because of the line "myMenu.show(null,null)". See function below:

View 4 RepliesWhen you cast null to an object using Object(null), the result is an object.When you cast undefined to an object using Object(undefined), the result is an object.But saying null as Object or undefined as Object remains null.Why is this? I can't find anything in the documentation about this.
The objects that result from these casts can have properties set on and read from them. It's as if the cast created information, or removed whatever special information the null and undefined values have. But there's no indication in the AS3 documentation that the null and undefined special types are actually objects.

I've gotten these sliders to work but can't get the output values to add up. For instance, depending on the values for slider 1, 2 and 3, I need the total to show up in a separate text box. I keep getting a NaN message in the text box.Here's the code I have so far:

Why do I have to have 'current' as XML and not as XMLList? I thought XMLList's with length == 1 are handled as XML's anyway, aren't they?
I am trying to parse some XML i have retrieved via e4x in an HTTPService. The loop works and for each episode in the list it goes through the loop. However i get the following error when it is trying to append to an XMLList.TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.I am trying to query the local SQLite database and see if the episode exists (working) and if it does append to one xmllist and if not then append to the other xmllist.

How can you tell if an XMLlist object in AS3 contains a specific node?
View 2 RepliesMy Flash designer is reading an XML stream I'm sending back to the browser (I'm a C# dev). We have this working fine.
He is then selecting into an XMLList where a element has its id a certain value i.e. . This is also working just fine.
In this XmlList, are Events, that look a little something like this:
event
startdate
enddate
end event
I don't know how to use the formatting here - but each of those items is an element. startdate would have a value such as 04/02/2010 and enddate 6/30/2010.
Now, from this XmlList I do have of Events, I need to select all Events where a new variable myDate, falls in between the startdate and enddate.

I'm trying to loop through an XMLList and rather than giving me each item in the list as XML, it's just coming back with the positions as strings e.g.

It just alerts "0" or "1". If I inspect the 'item' variable, I see the same thing. But if I inspect 'myList' it looks like the XML. I've also tried myList.children() and strongly typing 'items' to 'XML' but nothing I do has worked.
What I want to do is loop through an xml file, and assign the contents of each node to a static variable with the same name. [code]...

View 5 RepliesI am trying to add an EventListener to a MC, but I am getting the 1009 error. My script is referencing a MC that does exist. I have verified that my code is typed correctly, and that my instance names are correct.I am creating a portfolio site. On the first frame I have my main navigation (well, it's actually not the first frame. I alpha-fade everything in so it's really the 6th or 7th, but I'm not sure how pertinent that is). The main navigation works fine (5 movie clips, fyi). Clicking them will move to a different frame, and the information and sub navigation for the frame will fade up. It is the sub navigation that I am having trouble with.[code]
As you can see, it doesn't even get to the function before it gets thrown off. I have verified that the instance names are correct. The script and the MC I am trying to add it too [I/]are[I/] in the same frame, which is what's stumping me. Normally you get 1009 when the object you're trying to reference is not there, but mine is!!Obviously there is something wrong with my EventListener. I am not sure what else do; there is a gap in my understanding of AS.
