I've gotten these sliders to work but can't get the output values to add up. For instance, depending on the values for slider 1, 2 and 3, I need the total to show up in a separate text box. I keep getting a NaN message in the text box.Here's the code I have so far:

I just started working with CS4 / as3 and I'm working on extracting simple text from an xml file. I got the code off youtube, and it seems that even after copying this guys code line for line, it doesnt work. More speficially, the trace/output doesnt want to output variables. I did use trace("hello") and that worked fine, so its not the omit output option, but it just wont display the values from variables.[code]...

View 4 RepliesFirst, is this even possible? Inside a function, I want to change the min and max values that the slider component will use. Say for instance, the slider by default has the min set to 100 and the max to 200. Using the slider to scale a graphic, I want to increase the min/mal values.
Can this be done? I've been searching the web for things like ".min.value" and the sort, but can't seem to find anything.
Is there a way to make a statement where if the slider is >=30 and <=40?
View 3 Repliesi have a slider bar taken from the compnents in flash. What i want is to duplicate a movie clip i have on the stage randomly with in a nother movie clip called square_mc. I have the movie clip spawning accoring to the slider value.But what i want to happen is to sapwn the movie to a custom number assignd to certian incraments of the slider, instead of it spawn 1-11, which are my slider values. And each interval i go up the slider i want it to reset, so for e.g. the first incrament of the slider value is 2 and the second is 5, when i slide to the second one i only want 5 movie clips not 7.This is the code i currently have.

i have a drag and drop exercise that will output a value based on the drop positions of 2 points. What I would like is to be able to add a button that basically has a whole new set of outputs based on the same drop positions. Here is an example. If I place an object on drop target 1 and 3. The output says something like "good job". Now if I click a button and place and object on 1 and 3 the output would say "try again".
View 4 RepliesThis includes some code and some traced output. I've been looking at this for 2 days and it stupifies me. I'll elaborate: There is a game object, its a dictionary object containing a screen tile with index/name tile_x_y So i can look it up using the x and y coords. The object contains lost of stuff but in this case especially: x, y , width, height, xtile, ytile (self explanatory i assume) & xmove, ymove (-1,0,1 depending on direction.)
So, now these objects move around the screen (yes its just a game) and check if they hit the screen bounds and if they try to move onto tiles that are occupied/non traversable. It goes fine for most objects but sometimes, or for some objects (no clue why and it changes on restart), halfway the boundaries check, the object internal x and y values go ballistic and i end up with a reference error on the dictionary object because tile 280 30 just doesnt exist.

I'm looking to make a slider bar reveal movie clips on my stage as you drag it along. I've written some sloppy code that works, but isn't smooth by any means. I basically put MCs on different frames on the timeline, and I want those MCs to fade in or out relative to where the pointer is on the bar. This was a workaround, what I think I need is a boolean solution, but I'm not familiar enough with AS to write one from scratch. Here is the code I have so far. Does anyone have any ideas?

They will appear in a random order but only once in each graph. In essence, I need something that takes the XML label attribute and swaps it with an other value before sending it further on to the rest of the movie for processing. It would be more practical to do the swapping in the server app that writes the xml file before it is written but that is not possible so I need to do that search and replace when I load the xml in Flash...
Edit: I could use even something like open the xml - search and replace values - save to new xml

I'm trying to set up a calculator for a couple of formulas I need to use for some schoolwork. I thought it would be a lot easier if I could just put the numbers in there and hit enter.I can't figure out how to transfer the numbers from the input box to the dynamic box though =/. Accepts it, and the code somehow recognizes the range if value from 150 to 200, perform a function (for example setProperty on something to visible true) a different function would apply if someone enters a value between 100 to 150.
View 10 RepliesI have another question for the masses out there regarding trying to input values from a text input box to a custom class. I currently have a custom class named Company with properties that correspond to values in a MySQL database.
So I created an input UI on the client application that calls out for Address, Name, Zip, Phone, etc. - Then there is a button to submit to values to the database for creation. Here's my question:
How do I take each individual textinput.text property and 'mesh' them all together to a Company object to send to the server? The PHP that is written takes in an argument like this:

So is that even the right way to send them in? Or???

View 1 RepliesI have a Input text area set up for a contact form. I want the area to display "Email", and for the alpha to be 50%. When you click on the text field to put in your email address, I want the original value to be removed and for the alpha to reset to 100%. I've been able to accomplish this fine so far using the code below; the problem is that I only want the value to become blank again if the user hasn't entered in information yet (this way if the user wants to come back and change something, it won't all be deleted when the text area is clicked on). I tried using an "if" statement, but Flash seems to just ignore it and perform the function either way.
Here is the code that I came up with:

I need to be able to compare the number of whole days between two dates in ActionScript, is this possible? I'd like to test if one date is 7 days or less after today, and if so is it one day or less (if it's before today this also counts).The workaround I have in place is using the .time part of the date field:

I'm teaching myself ActionScript and the book I'm reading just got into input text capabilities. The book shows me how to link input text to a variable and output that text to the output window using trace. My question is: how can I display the text that the user input onto the actual movie. For example... if I wanted the visitor to type their name into the input text box and click Submit and then a phrase shows up with their name such as "Hold on Name, my site will be done soon." How do I reference that variable and have it actually display in my movie?
View 5 Repliesthe last of many problems, is that at the very end of the test, you're shown your score, and you have the option to type your name in a text box and click "save". Doing so will apply you score data (time elapsed, date, correct answers and percentage) along with the name you typed in, and output in a form, that you can save or print off, or whatever. The problem is, the input text box will not let you type in it. If you mouse over it, the mouse stays a pointer, you don't get the text tool. If you click on it, the cursor appears for a split second after you release the mouse button, but you cannot type anything in it.This is the actionscript for the output form:

I'm currently building a very basic flash application and i'm having trouble with one section of it. In this section I have an input box where the user enters their name and clicks an 'Enter' button. Clicking this button will take the user to the next section where I want their name to appear in a dynamic text box.The application works as far as getting to the next section but it doesn't display any input text in the output text box in the next section.
