ActionScript 2.0 :: Randomizing The Order Of The Elements In Arrays?

Apr 25, 2010

I am currently making a quiz game and have an XML file which stores all the questions/answers.I then load the xml, and put all of the info into multiple arrays.

ActionScript Code:
var x = new XML();
x.ignoreWhite = true;
x.load ("Stating The Obvious 2.xml")

[code]....

So, how would I edit the code to make the questions appear in a random order? i.e. Make the currentQuestionNumber be random while not repeating itself.Also, is it possible to make the answers appear in a random order on the screen? For example, instead of the "answer1array" element always appearing at the top and the "answer4array" element appearing at the bottom, is there a way to mix things up a bit?

Actionscript 3.0 :: How To Order Multi-dimensional Arrays

Jul 24, 2009

I have an 2D array that will look summat like this:

var numbers:Array=[[10,1,3],[9,2,4],[8,3,5],[7,4,6],[6,5,7],[5,6,8],[4,7,9],[3,8,10],[2,9,1],[1,10,2]];

now how do I order this array by the 3rd number so it looks like this:

2,9,1, 1,10,2, 10,1,3, 9,2,4 , 8,3,5, 7,4,6, 6,5,7, 5,6,8, 4,7,9, 3,8,10

I have tried:

trace(numbers.sortOn(0,Array.NUMERIC));

returns:

5,6,8, 9,2,4, 8,3,5, 7,4,6, 6,5,7, 10,1,3, 4,7,9, 3,8,10, 2, 9,1, 1,10,2

trace(numbers.sortOn(2,Array.NUMERIC));

returns:

5,6,8, 9,2,4, 8,3,5, 7,4,6, 6,5,7, 10,1,3, 4,7,9, 3,8,10, 2, 9,1, 1,10,2

trace(numbers.sortOn(3,Array.NUMERIC));

returns:

5,6,8, 9,2,4, 8,3,5, 7,4,6, 6,5,7, 10,1,3, 4,7,9, 3,8,10, 2, 9,1, 1,10,2

spaced out for ease of reading.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Press MovieClip Instances In Certain Order (Relying On Arrays)

Sep 6, 2009

I have neither the capacity nor the integrity to overcome as3, how to build a system wherein if I were to press movieclip instances in a certain order, would move me to a certain frame if I did. I am trying to do this without making 100 eventlisteners and relying on an array instead. If I could say anything about how as3 is about implementation of values, I'd say it's a bit like using the titanic to deliver a piece of cheese on toast, but I guess what I need to know specifically is

How to make a function that relies on a certain set of array values.
How to splice that entire array after the array reaches a certain number of values.
How to move to frame 2 if the array does possess the correct values.
How to stay on frame 1 if it does not.

So far I have
var inacertainorder:Array = new Array();
var i:*;
i = 0;
function toframetwo(event:MouseEvent)
{gotoAndPlay(2)};
if(inacertainorder[i] == "0,1,2")
{stop();}
else inacertainorder.splice[i>3]
{gotoAndStop(2);};

ActionScript 3.0 :: Multidimensional Arrays - When Test The Movie , The Output Panel Displays NaN Instead Of 117.89?

May 16, 2011

I'm just beginning to learn AS3 and I've been reading Colin Moock's Essential ActionScript 3.0.(I've been doing some exercises on how to randomly choose elements from arrays). All of the book's example codes that I've tried so far (in FLASH CS5) seem to work pretty well. But I'm having a bit of problem with the example code below which is found in chapter 11 (Arrays):

var row1:Array = [6, 2.99]; // Quantity 6, Price 2.99
var row2:Array = [4, 9.99]; // Quantity 4, Price 9.99
var row3:Array = [1, 59.99]; // Quantity 1, Price 59.99[code]....

When I test the movie the output panel displays NaN instead of 117.89.

Arrays :: Sorting Order Of Series Of Flash Slides Into Dynamic Presentation

Feb 21, 2011

I'm not quite sure how to do this - I'm building an admin interface to sort the order of a series of flash slides into a dynamic presentation. The admin interface pulls the slides from xml and displays each as a thumbnail. The thumbnails, when dragged, reorder themselves in the array appropriately. The problem is, I want the actual array of slides to reorganize itself accordingly. My code is this:

function onThumbPress( e:MouseEvent ):void {
e.target.startDrag();
} function onThumbRelease( e:MouseEvent ):void {
e.currentTarget.stopDrag();
sortSlides();
[Code] .....

So what I want to do is take the change in the array (say 0 moves in front of 1 in project_thumbs_array) - and make sure that my other array (project_clips_array) moves item 0 in front of 1 as well. I thought something like this might work but it doesn't:
project_clips_array.sortOn ('project_thumbs_array.x',Array.NUMERIC);

ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating An Order Form For Flash Site - Results Of The Order Sent To A Pre-specified Email Adress In A Certain Format?

Aug 17, 2004

I am creating an order form for my flash site. I have never done this before in flash but I have in visual basic. I have a few questions:

1. Is assigning variable names to checkboxes and radio buttons the same as in visual basic? I mean i know that you probably assign them in the properties. ex..say i name a radio button 'radio1', to run a check in my actionscript whether radio1 was checked or not would it be something like if(radio1){}

2. After the person fills out the form I would like to have the results of the order sent to a pre-specified email adress in a certain format. What would be a good way to do this?

Arrays :: Flash - Pushing Or Adding Arrays As Values Into A Multi-dimensional Array?

I am running into some trouble adding an array into another array to create a multi-dimensional array.The code appears as below:

var slideShowDataArray:Array = new Array();

I am looking for a means of placing the slideDataArray into a 'slot' or value of slideShowDataArray so that I can in the end pass the slideShowDataArray as a parameter to another function.As of now, the last slideDataArray appears 11 times (the loop runs 11 times) in slideShowDataArray and the way the code is written the slideDataArray is unique every iteration of the loop.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Link Input Text To A Variable And Output That Text To The Output Window Using Trace

Jul 22, 2005

I'm teaching myself ActionScript and the book I'm reading just got into input text capabilities. The book shows me how to link input text to a variable and output that text to the output window using trace. My question is: how can I display the text that the user input onto the actual movie. For example... if I wanted the visitor to type their name into the input text box and click Submit and then a phrase shows up with their name such as "Hold on Name, my site will be done soon." How do I reference that variable and have it actually display in my movie?

Arrays :: Fastest Way To Merge Multiple Arrays?

Sep 26, 2011

I'm trying to write a function where I can specify any amount of array, and the return value will be an array containing the contents of all of the specified arrays.I've done this, but it seems like a really slow and ugly way of doing it:

var ar1:Array = [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9];
var ar2:Array = ['a','b','c','d','e','f','g','h'];
function merge(...multi):Array[code].....

Is there an inbuilt and more efficient / nice way of achieving this? The result does not need to be in the same order as the input - completely unsorted is fine.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Randomizing The World! Arrays And More Arrays?

A little explanation: Im making a random arranging number Array. So instead of using a loop and assigning 0 to first array element, 1 to second, etc.I need to make it totally random but without repeating any numbers. To do that I made a second Array that will have the same number of children to serve as a reference.Each of them will be an Object with a property "num" , wich will be its actual number, and a property "called" wich defaults to false.Like this:

ActionScript Code:
for(var i:int=0;i<vQuantity;i++){
ranArray.push( new Object() );

ActionScript 3.0 :: Arrays Store References Of Other Arrays?

Dec 27, 2009

I've had a problem for awhile that was really odd. After some intense debugging, I realized the problem lied in setting an array equal to another array.[code] When setting one array equal to another, the values aren't copied over, but a reference to that memory is stored. So no matter which variable you change, they are both references to the same memory and thus both will reflect the changes.With other data types, this doesn't happen.I could fix it by looping through t1 and using push() to add each index from t1 into t2, but that seems a little messy.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Pushing Variables To Arrays Within Arrays?

Jun 25, 2004

correct syntax for pushing variables to arrays within arrays? I have searched many threads but found nothing that exactly answers my query.I have a class (Brigade) which amongst other variables contains an array (BrigadeUnits) This is the third element.. My Brigades are stored in an array called AllBrigades. I now need to fill the BrigadeUnits array with objects of my Units class.The hierarchy I want to create is as follows:

AllBrigades (array of Brigades)
Brigade (object)
BrigadeUnits (array within Brigade object)
Unit (Object to be stored in BrigadeUnits array)

I have tried various approaches including the following, assuming that I am addressing the first Brigade in the array:

AllBrigades [0] [2].push (MyUnit);

But when I trace this I just get undefined.

Php :: XML Output Is Different On IE?

Jul 28, 2010

I have been trying to output XML with PHP but encountered a strange(!) error in Internet Explorer. The expected xml output is this:(simplified)

<root>
<match_id>12</match_id>
<stadium_id>43</stadium_id>

[code]....

I have set the PHP header for XML output, and changed lots of other things but could not make it work.The $match->getId() part is just returning an integer but IE always shows this value as 0. If I set <fan_id> and <match_id> manually, IE shows the values correctly. By the way, I am using this XML output in Flash (AS3) and this also shows the same result with IE.

AddEventListener Order Of Use?

Aug 24, 2009

I am trying to make an interactive flash application that works by detecting mouse overs and clicks on various buttons/movie clips and then moves to the appropriate part of the time line. But I am having an issue when I use more than one addEventListener in any one frame. I have attached the code for one such frame below. When I comment out the addEventListner and the other code relating to the followBall function this works fine and directs the user to frame Inlet_Valve_Open_Frame but now only the followBall function is working and when i try to click on the Inlet_Valve_Button movie clip nothing happens.

Can someone please help. I have never read all the help files on the adobe flash CS3 as i don't have time and i have built this code up based on examples i have found online. I wanted to include my fla file but it's to big 6Mb. But i have attached the swf so you have an idea what i am doing.

SWF Output To LCD Projector As Presentation

Jul 22, 2010

I am still running Flash MX (04). Because I find flash a little more useable than other progs, I am using it to create a presentation. I am creating a project that I intend to only use as a standalone SWF (not uploadable to a site or anything). I intend to play the SWF full screen on a laptop and output to an LCD projector as a presentation. I have the stage set at 1024 x 768 and am using movie clips imported/embedded (which arent the full 1024x768 but slightly smaller ), text, photo's and audio. I am nearly 2/3rds the way through and the SWF file size is growing (currently at 16 meg). I expect it to be in the region of 90 meg + or so as some audio yet to be loaded and still photos are quite size heavy. Is there any way i can get the audio to sound a little clear as when the SWF is published the sound seems to lose a little quality in the compression. Also, what is the maximum size you would recommend a standalone SWF in this scenario should/could be?
