ActionScript 3.0 :: Prevent A Child Swf From Referencing Its Parent Swf Stage Width/height?

Oct 11, 2010

I would like to know the way to prevent a child swf from referencing its parent swf stage width/height?

for example, i created a child swf that loads image and center it on it's stage. As a stand alone its fine but i loaded it with parent swf, it centers on the parent swf instead.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Referencing Stage.width/height References Mc.width/height?

Jul 29, 2010

I am trying to reference to top level (stage) width and height of the main stage for the placement of something located inside a movieclip on the stage.

My code is:
Code:
my_loader.x = (stage.stageWidth - my_loader.width)/2;
my_loader.y = (stage.stageHeight - my_loader.height)/2;

But this seems to just relate to the width/height of the mc that my_loader is nested in...

I have tried the following and had no luck:

stage.stage.stageWidth
root.stage.stageWidth
parent.stage.stageWidth
MovieClip(root).stage.stageWidth

ActionScript 3.0 :: Parent.removeChild(child) Doesn't Update Parent Width / Height When Child Was Rotated

Jul 29, 2011

I got a Parent Sprite, let's name it SpriteP, which holds inside it two other Sprites. Sprite1 and Sprite2.[code]Sprite2 is a rectangle. When I rotate it, of course, the height of its parent, SpriteP, GROWS. But I would expect that height to go back to what it should be when I'm removing Sprite2!And it does! If I remove Sprite2 while NOT being rotated, the height of the parent drops back to normal, 200.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Parent.removeChild(child) Doesn't Update Parent Width/height When Child Was Rotated

When Sprite2 is NOT rotated:

Code:
trace(SpriteP.width + ' ' + SpriteP.height); //100 250.
SpriteP.removeChild(Sprite2)
trace(SpriteP.width + ' ' + SpriteP.height); //100 200. -> works, 200 is good.
When Sprite2 is rotated at 90:

And it does! If I remove Sprite2 while NOT being rotated, the height of the parent drops back to normal, 200. But if I rotate Sprite2, the Parent won't update its bounds.

Jul 10, 2009

I'm currently making a platform game and when the player shoots i want to add the bullets to the stage. The players gun class is in charge of adding bullets. The "players gun" is a child of "players gun holder" which is a child of "player" which is a child of the stage. is there a better or more dynamic way for the "players gun" to add bullets to the stage rather than using parent.parent.parent.addChild (bullet);

ActionScript 3.0 :: Referencing Parent MC From Child?

Mar 9, 2012

Each of these children has an index value assign to it for the purpose of relating to an XML file, but that's beside the point. Those children have other children eventListeners that call a tween function. That tween function wants to tween the first child.First question: what is the proper syntax for referencing the parent and getting that index value? Does this work, with currentTarget being the child that called the function:var something = e.currentTarget.parent.index;If not, how can I get that index value?Second question: In order to determine which of the first children the tween is applied to, I could write a conditional that checks the index value and tweens based on that. Is there an easier way to do this? And what conditional would work best? I'm thinking if() else() but I'm relatively new to as3 so if there's something more efficient I'd love to hear it

ActionScript 3.0 :: Add A Clip To The Stage As A Child And Remove The Parent And Set The Parent Equal To Null?

Sep 11, 2010

if I add a clip to the stage as a child and remove the parent and set the parent equal to null, does the child get collected and removed from memory? What if the child has an image loaded into it as its child?

In my application I'm loading a series of png images as overlays that can be tinted for customizing in this app. When I trace my memory, the basic app idles at 64,000 k. The exact second I load those overlay images it goes up to 205,000k. If I remove those clips and "clear" the stage I should go back down to 64,000 k if everything is removed and collected correctly, right? It's not, it's hanging at 215,000 k. Are my images being cached and that is the reason for the memory staying up? If so, how do I prevent that. Or upon removing the parent of the image how can I un-cache the image.

If a user switches between models and loads several different items then the application actually crashes the Flash environment because of too much memory usage. It also does the same to browsers.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Parent MC Inherits Child MC's Height?

Oct 16, 2009

I have a SWF that I am making Full Screen.

In one of the children I have a drop down tween that tweens from outside of the Full Screen Dimensions... the problem is this Child Clips height effects the height of the whole entire movie; so that it messes up the dimensions of the whole project --- ie making everything smaller because it is expanding the height of the parent clip.

I'm not sure how to fix this; I've looked through all the movie clip properties and stage properties and can't find a way to make it so that this child height doesn't get added to the whole size of the SWF.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Specifying Child .swf Width In Parent?

Nov 15, 2010

Basically, I'm working on the ability to load my player swf into a parent swf, instead of simply embedding it on an HTML page (with swfObject, for example).Normally, the player's width and height are determined by the stage.stageWidth, which is set with Javascript during the embed:

Code:
swfobject.embedSWF("mySwf.swf", "flash-holder", "1000", "450", "9.0.0", "/swf/expressInstall.swf", flashvars, params, attributes);

How can I specify this when loading this mySwf.swf into a parent swf? Is the width and height treated in some sort of programatic way like the flashvars and attributes are?

Flash - Children Movieclips Doesn't Show Its Width And Height According To Parent Movieclip

Jul 19, 2011

I have placed 3 movieclips named mcParent, mcChild1, mcChild2 and 1 textbox in flash. child are childrens of parent movie clip. child1 and child2 both are of sizes 300 whereas parent movieclip is 600px, textbox is placed inside child2 movie clip .

I have made the flash to auto resize according to the screen area. Everything works well, but after resize it resizes parent and all childrens and textbox which is correct. The problem is with the correct placement of textbox on mcChild2. I have seen that after resize, mcParent width and scalex both changes but the child clips doesn't changed its sizes even they are stretched but there sizes are not updated due to which I am unable to get the exact location of where to place the textbox.

I can use EXACT_FIT, but if the browser shrinks or expands the movie clip changes size. Keeping that height static is a pain at the moment!

So, basically I'm just looking for direction. The liquid layout tutorials seem to work for elements NOT stretched 100%...

ActionScript 3.0 :: Display All Pictures In Stage Width And Height?

Mar 7, 2009

Ha have a flash project for displaying pictures. These pictures are categorised. So you can have like 3 pictures on one category and then 50 for another. All goes ok. I can search pictures and display them with an opening deck of card effect.

Problem starts when users get tired of going picture by picture. So I thought that a grid displays would be perfect as another alternative way to display the full category. This way user would get both design and functionality running nice on the application. So I started coding the grid and calculated the amount of picture that I could fit into the width of stage regarding picture width (in this case they are always 300px*300px). But I didn't like the result. It forced me to think in a scroll. Again, user would never get that full grid display of all pictures in one category at once without having to navigate to see more or less. So I thought that calculating a way to reduce picture size would be nice in order to fit all pictures through stage width and height.
