ActionScript 3.0 :: Push A Dynamic Number Of Elements Onto An Associative Array?

Aug 10, 2007

I have been working with flash remoting in actionscript 3.0 and there is no result set class. I'm fairly new to AS3, but I am very fluent with AS2, and so far the migration has been easy.I would like to create a result set class myself, but I am stuck on one part, pushing the dynamic number of elements onto the array, let me show you what I mean:

{ // start result function
var totalCount:Number = rs.serverInfo.totalCount; // # of records returned
var queryString:String = rs.serverInfo.intialData; // query string, each value separated

ActionScript 2.0 :: Push An Entry Into An Associative Array?

Jul 12, 2010

How do I push an entry into an associative array?

ActionScript Code:
var lijst:Object = new Object({fname:'John', lname:'Carpenter'});
lijst.push({mname:'Frank'});

[code]...

This doesn't work. The first name and last name work because they are created when the object was created, but the pushed middle name remains undefined.I understand that associative arrays are in fact objects. I tried turning it into a real array so the Push command would work cause it's part of the Array Class.

ActionScript Code:
var lijst:Array = new Array({fname:'John', lname:'Carpenter'});
lijst.push({mname:'Frank'});

[code]....

Though this works, it only works when using a '1'. When in fact I want to keep it inside the '0' entry.So how do I really add an entry into an assciative array? So that in above example instead of each having two elements one is added resulting in three elements per entry?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Scope Within Package - Trace Always Shows A Blank Array Before Push And An Array With One Object In It After The Push

Nov 12, 2009

I have a class in which I have declared an array. The functions in that class are designed to make changes to the array, but it's not working:

[Code]...

Anything I do to customerCheck treats it as if it were a new array. This is especially obvious when using customerCheck.push in addCharToCheck() -- the trace always shows a blank array before push and an array with one object in it after the push... then next time it does the same. I know I'm making some sort of fundamental error regarding the scope of the array within the class but I just cannot find any good information on how to fix it! Moving to AS3 (been coding it for all of about 3 weeks) is a nightmare so far, and it seems to be the 'easy' stuff that causes me problems

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamic XML Array Push?

Jan 7, 2009

I'm having an issue with pushing the node contents of my XML to an array. I'm real close and have tried a ton of things, but I'm hoping to get a push here.. The below code works fine, but is limited to 22 chars... I'd like it to parse the node regardless of length by first calculating the length and then looping through the push based on that int (tileWidthNumber). It's important to ignore the commas from the node, and the push each value to the myMap array.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Array Elements Knowing Their Index Number ?

Jul 8, 2011

Say you have a class Parent, which has a property childArray:Array. In this array, we will register several instances of the class Child. Is there an easy way for a child to know which position in the array it currently has? I know I could just pass the index number into the child as I register them, but if a child were to be deleted from the array, all children past the deleted childs index would need to have their indexes updatedl. While this is of course not a huge task, I just have this feeling it should be a better and more dynamic solution.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Number Of Elements In Array - Length Property Doesn't Work

Feb 3, 2010

I am using an array to return data to an application and as the array is filled with data using a loader and the order is important it happens that data in slot n is inserted later than data in slot n+1. How do I know that the array is full as I know the number of elements to be loaded? The length property doesn't work for this. I could go through the array each time I put something in and look if every slot is full but that seems ineffective.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Finding Values In Array - Searching Small Number Of Elements

Feb 3, 2006

I just read the tutorial "Finding Values in an Array". Sure, the code works, but that's only because we are searching arrays the contain a small number of elements. Suppose we have n elements in an array. To search that array for a particular element we may have to do n comparisons. If the array we are searching contains 10 million elements, we have a problem; can you imagine doing "if (this == that)" 10 million times? There's got to be a better way to search the array. Or perhaps we shouldn't use arrays to store the information.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Adding A Element To An Array With Array.push

Mar 14, 2005

I have 4 buttons and an empty array. When a button is clicked,I'm adding a element to an array with array.push. However, I want to check the array 1st to see if that element exists. If so, then don't add it. Here's what I have thus far

Now I'm taking it I'd have a conditional statement to see if the element already exists. Unfortunatly I cannot just disable the button. I searched the AS dictionary but oddly enough it doesn't have an easy way to search an array. And IndexOf seems to only work for a string.

See, these are all part of regions array, which I believe is an associative one by the way I constructed it. I tried to use indexOf to find out the index of the individual elements, but don't seem to have too much luck.

ActionScript Code:

Right now, this does not bring me a thing. Have I done something wrong here?

Actionscript 3 :: Using Associative Array To Count Occurrences?

Dec 1, 2010

in many programming languages there is this great idiom that lets you use a hash to count occurrences of items. Eg in Perl, suppose you have a list of students and you want to see how many of each name you have (2 Bobs, 1 Jeremy, 22 Aidans etc):

my %uniqueNames;
for (@studentNames){ $uniqueNames{$_}++; }
# print it out[code]....

So you can do this in ActionScript 3 of course, using the Object.The problem is NaN. If you try to autocreate and autoincrement a key at the same time, you get NaN, and the whole thing breaks down.Sure, you can use a conditional to test whether the key exists, and then autoincrement it, or set it to one if not, but that's ugly.

studentNames[name] = studentNames[name] ? studentNames[name] + 1 : 1; // shudder
