ActionScript 3.0 :: Number Of Elements In Array - Length Property Doesn't Work

Feb 3, 2010

I am using an array to return data to an application and as the array is filled with data using a loader and the order is important it happens that data in slot n is inserted later than data in slot n+1. How do I know that the array is full as I know the number of elements to be loaded? The length property doesn't work for this. I could go through the array each time I put something in and look if every slot is full but that seems ineffective.

Actionscript 3 :: Remove Equally Spaced Elements From An Array With Length Of 'n' To Match A Given Length 'y'?

Mar 9, 2011

Let's say I have array foo and a positive integer y, where foo.length > y.I want to remove elements from foo so that foo.length becomes y (or very close to it).Also, I need to preserve the first and last element of foo. The indices of the removed elements must be spaced apart as equally as possible. Foo can be sliced, or it can be used to create a new array.

Example: if foo = [a,b,c,d,e,f,g,1,2,3,4,5] and y = 6, then trimmedfoo could be [a,c,e,g,2,4,5] or maybe [a,c,e,2,4,5], but not [a,c,e,g,2,4] because the last element of foo is missing.

How do I set the width of the array and length and set each of the values in it to the same number. This is for a game I am working on. I know you use for loops to find the x and y of the values... This doesn't work, but think its how it suppose to work.

for (y=0; y<_global.ymap; y++) {
for (x=0; x<_global.xmap; x++) {
_global.map[y][x] = 1;

AS3 :: Flex - Subclassing An Array - Get Array Elements (this[0] Does Not Work)?

Mar 16, 2011

If I am a subclass of an Array, how do I access an element?

class ArrayOfFoo extends Array
{
public function getFooAt(anIndex : int) : Foo
{
return this[anIndex] as Foo; // <---- looks for an object attribute (named "0", for example)
}
}

I could wrap an array instead of subclassing it, however lacking a universal IArray interface, that is less than useful for standard and custom functions expecting an Array.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Array Elements Knowing Their Index Number ?

Jul 8, 2011

Say you have a class Parent, which has a property childArray:Array. In this array, we will register several instances of the class Child. Is there an easy way for a child to know which position in the array it currently has? I know I could just pass the index number into the child as I register them, but if a child were to be deleted from the array, all children past the deleted childs index would need to have their indexes updatedl. While this is of course not a huge task, I just have this feeling it should be a better and more dynamic solution.

var totalCount:Number = rs.serverInfo.totalCount; // # of records returned

ActionScript 2.0 :: Finding Values In Array - Searching Small Number Of Elements

Feb 3, 2006

I just read the tutorial "Finding Values in an Array". Sure, the code works, but that's only because we are searching arrays the contain a small number of elements. Suppose we have n elements in an array. To search that array for a particular element we may have to do n comparisons. If the array we are searching contains 10 million elements, we have a problem; can you imagine doing "if (this == that)" 10 million times? There's got to be a better way to search the array. Or perhaps we shouldn't use arrays to store the information.

When I splice(0) a specific element - then nothing works. When I splice the cuurent indexed element ie: the last element to get right - it doesn't actually remove it from the array. I have highlighted the key code parts.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Length Property Not Adding Up?

May 17, 2010

I have two values which are both ints: val1 and val2.

I set a movie clip's width equal to the difference of the two values:
mc.width = val1 - val2

After doing this calculation, the width of the object is 149.9 when it should be 150. This happens for other values as well. When I trace(val1 - val2), it returns 150.

What seems to be happening is the width value of my movie clip is not adjusting correctly. My movie clip is composed of a bunch of bitmaps and filters. I didn't think this would be a problem, but when I switched it out for a plain shape, the problem went away.

Is there something funny about bitmaps or filters that would make the width value screw up by .1?

<value>3</value>

The Alert keeps coming up as 1. I read in the documentation that this will happen with XML objects but it is working when I create the XMLList and counts the number of questions I have. The code is working except it is only rendering 1 RadioButton, very sad. I suppose I could put the number of options within the <options> tag but I'd rather do it dynamically to avoid errors.

I want to do this because I only want code to execute when a certain number of things are in a certain ArrayCollection. I want Flex to wait to execute this code over the next object until that length property drops back to an acceptable level. I think I should do this with events instead of a while loop that sits there spouting NOOPs forever (which I don't know how to do either).

I understand that all string indexes are zero-based but I cant put this together with the last character for any string being -1 or whatever it is saying.
