Is there an easy way for a child to know which position in the array it currently has? I know I could just pass the index number into the child as I register them, but if a child were to be deleted from the array, all children past the deleted childs index would need to have their indexes updatedl. While this is of course not a huge task, I just have this feeling it should be a better and more dynamic solution.

Feb 3, 2010I am using an array to return data to an application and as the array is filled with data using a loader and the order is important it happens that data in slot n is inserted later than data in slot n+1. How do I know that the array is full as I know the number of elements to be loaded? The length property doesn't work for this. I could go through the array each time I put something in and look if every slot is full but that seems ineffective.

Feb 3, 2006I just read the tutorial "Finding Values in an Array". Sure, the code works, but that's only because we are searching arrays the contain a small number of elements. Suppose we have n elements in an array. To search that array for a particular element we may have to do n comparisons. If the array we are searching contains 10 million elements, we have a problem; can you imagine doing "if (this == that)" 10 million times? There's got to be a better way to search the array. Or perhaps we shouldn't use arrays to store the information.

Dec 20, 2011So i got the ability to add a numeric value to an mc down. So every time i pick up a coin with a value attached to it, and place it on a hand mc, it'll trace the value i've assigned. very excited on this aspect. I've been searching around for the ability to have a master value that I set say for example 5.0. When I hit another mc, this function (that i need to find out about) would check the values that are resting on the hand. I could not find the proper syntax. I have a very good idea of where it would go and what it would look like but I'm missing the forumla. Now I've bold/underlined the area that I think the check would be executed. When you hit the checkout button, it would tally the myValue sums that are currently resting on the hand mc. So my thought train is that I'd declare another variable like masterTotal (the value I want the person to match), and the handTotal (what is resting on the hand).

The problem I'm having is that you don't seem to be able to find a FrameLabel within a MovieClip in the simple sort of way that I've used above (I know the way I specify here won't work). It does seem, though, like there should be SOME way of finding a FrameLabel within a MovieClip.

I already use various tools to extract the text and produce a serious of high quality images from the file and the system works well. The last piece of the puzzle is to be able to highlight specific parts of the document to help users with accessibility issues.
However I cannot figure out how to calculate where the specific text is positioned on the page? Notes: The documents uploaded to the system are from 3rd parties, so fonts may be embedded. Meaning that I cannot be sure of the width of specific letters.
