ActionScript 3.0 :: Target Button In Movieclip Back To Main Timeline?

Oct 1, 2009

I have some submenu buttons in a movieclip on the mainline. My first level of navigation in on main timeline. The submenus are grouped in movieclips on the main timeline. I basically used the same code on the main navigation for the sub navigation except the code for the submenus is in that movie clip. My trace statement reads the button is clicked (which was a quantum leap for me) but I know I need some kind of _parent code in there so it knows to go to label back on main timeline. I feel like I am so close.

Also is this an ok way to set this up? I couldn't figure out how to do it in one frame. I didn't realize this basic framework was going to be so difficult.

Dec 1, 2010

I have a btn within a Movieclip at a certain keyframe the user is asked if they want to go back to make another selection from a choice category (within the maintimeline)

As of now the code I have for the btn that jumps you back to the main timeline is:

on (press) {    gotoAndStop(_root.stop(24));}

Does _root.stop(24) need to be in quotes?

ie. "_root.stop(24)"

ActionScript 3.0 :: Navigating Back To Main Timeline Using A Button In A Movieclip?

Jul 14, 2009

I can get my menu buttons to move me around the timeline, but am at a loss as to how to move to a frame on the main timeline using a button within a movieclip that has it's own timeline.

So what I mean is that on the mian timeline, a movieclip graphic with a button in it drops down. This movieclip has it's own timeline, and any AS to control the button has to be in this timeline. So how do I tell it 'when the button is clicked, go BACK to frame X on the MAIN timeline?

Here's the AS on the main timeline for the menu buttons (how would I adapt it to apply to buttonX within movieclipZ?, and where would I put this extra code in my movie?):

function Nav(event:MouseEvent):void {
trace("Nav "+arguments)
switch(event.target.name){
case "gilbert": gotoAndPlay(72); break;

ActionScript 2.0 :: Button In Nested Mc Needs To Jump Back To Main Timeline?

Mar 4, 2008

so i have a main timeline and a nested one. the main timeline has a button named "how_btn" that plays the nested mc (named "how"). once i get into playing "how", i have a button named "menu" that i want to bring the user back to the main timeline (where the "how" button is). this is how i scripted:

how_btn.onRelease = function () {
gotoAndStop("how");
}
menu_btn.onRelease = function () {
gotoAndStop("nav");
}

the how button script works, however the menu button does not. is this b/c it's in a nested mc? i tried specifying the root, but that didn't do it either.

Control MovieClip Inside Button From Main Timeline

Aug 13, 2011

I have a movieclip inside the OVER on a button, right now I have an animation that causes the button's brightness increases from 0 to 10 over 24 frames and then come stops because of a stop (). I now intend to add an animation after stop () which gets the button's brightness goes back to 0 again when you no longer hold the mouse over the button. I would therefore like to make some kind of mouseOut event that allows Movieclip go to the next frame. I have tried to insert a target path but it seems that it can't reach the movie clip inside the button.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Button To Access MovieClip In Main Timeline?

Nov 2, 2009

as always, this seemed simple in AS2, but i am stumped with this simple command in AS3.

i have a main timeline [one scene] that has multiple movies, one after each other, in different frames.  i need the buttons that are placed in a layer below the movies to access various movies in the scene.  was really simple in AS2.

it appears that i can get my button to go to the frame, but the movie contained in the frame will not load and or play. [i have 2 frames dedicated to each movie, the second frame, in the actions layer has a stop command].  the following is the actionscript and the errors i am getting.

AS3:
food_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, playfood);
function playfood(event:MouseEvent):void {
gotoAndPlay("food");
}

ActionScript 2.0 :: [mx2004] Control Main Timeline From Button Inside Movieclip

Nov 3, 2004

I've created a movieclip with buttons inside that I want to use to navigate to different scenes on the main timeline. I have created a function() that loads the button movieclip into the main timeline, but if I try to write a function() to activate the button and move the main timeline to a different scene/frame label it doesn't work. I have tried various things:

navBack_mc.book_btn.onRelease = function() {
_root.gotoAndStop("book1");
}

I put the code above on the main timeline. It doesn't seem to work. Basically, I could put just an on(release) handler on the buttons, but I wanted to try to keeping all the AS in one place if I can.

Target Container On Main Timeline?

May 19, 2009

I have 3 movieclips on the main stage.

btn1, 2, 3

I have this code in the maintime line, that when i click a button, the btn the stays static (like its on), when i click another btn, it switches on the next button and loads an external swf.

Each button's instance name is button1, 2, 3..and more buttons I add the stage I would increase the button number, so for 3 buttons on stage I have up (var buttonNum:Number = 3

code//
var buttonNum:Number = 1;
for (i=1; i<=buttonNum; i++) {
this["button"+i].onRollOver = function() {

[Code].....

This all works fine.

I have built a scroller with thumbnails as movieclips and would like to add this code to movieclips.

The thumbnails are indivdual moviclips and are inside a movieclip (productscroll), as the dragbar i am using targets the clip (productscroll) to scroll the thumbnails.

I basically need the same actions as the buttons. When I click a thumbnail I need to load an external swf.

Linking Back To The Main Timeline?

Aug 26, 2010

I recently started creating a flash website from a template that was created back in 2004. I have very little knowledge of either AS 2.0 or AS 3.0. I am currently attempting to link my buttons that are in separate movieclips back to specific parts of the main timeline "scene 1". Currently when clicked, the buttons just cycle through the varying pages that have been created, "s1" , "s2" etc.

How do I link a movieclip/button back to "s8" in the main timeline?The AS 2.0(I think it's AS 2.0 anyway) that currently exists is as follows:

PHP Code:

on (rollOver) {
gotoAndPlay(2);
}

[code]....

I understand what first rollOver and rollOut commands are and they work fine, but the "On (release)" doesn't seem to go where it needs to.

Actionscript 3.0 :: Target A Movie Clip From The Main Timeline?

Apr 5, 2010

I have 7 buttons on the main stage that go to different parts of the main timeline, all of which have the same movie clip with 7 different frames. Right now it always goes to the first frame of the movie clip, but I need the second button to go to the second frame, and so on. I was originally trying to have the button itself find a frame label inside the movie clip, but now I realize I probably need to attach something to the key frames of the main timeline that tells it to go to a specific part of the movie clip. The problem is I can't figure out how to address the movie clip from the main timeline. The book I started learning from had a short section on declaring movie clips, and I cobbled together this bit of code and put in on a key frame in the main timeline.

Code: Select allvar viewwork:MovieClip = root.viewwork

viewwork.gotoAndStop(2);

I'm pretty sure that's completely wrong, as it gives me the error: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property viewwork through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObject.

So how do I properly reference a movie clip from the main timeline? Also, I'm using an external .as file for most of my actions, but I'm sticking this directly on the frame because I haven't even thought about trying to figure out how to target a specific frame from an external file. Is that going to cause problems?

Once clicked, the chosen room is an external .SWF that is loaded that has options to view other external .SWFs within that room. Problem is, within the first loaded .SWF, I have a "home" button that is supposed to take the viewer back to the main overhead view but I can't get the AS to work. I've tried _parent and _root with no luck (not sure I even typed out right code).
