ActionScript 3.0 :: Button On Main Timeline Control Movieclip?

I have a stop on my main timeline. At the stop I have a movieclip play. In the movieclip I will have a video play. After the video plays I have a button for the user to continue play until the end of the movieclip. Once the movieclip is done I want to resume back to a specific frame in my main timeline.

I have a movieclip inside the OVER on a button, right now I have an animation that causes the button's brightness increases from 0 to 10 over 24 frames and then come stops because of a stop (). I now intend to add an animation after stop () which gets the button's brightness goes back to 0 again when you no longer hold the mouse over the button. I would therefore like to make some kind of mouseOut event that allows Movieclip go to the next frame. I have tried to insert a target path but it seems that it can't reach the movie clip inside the button.

I am trying to do a simple thing in theory. In my main timeline I have a series of images with frame labels for each. In a movieclip (with its own labels) below the images, I have two panels of butttons that flop back and forth (to save space). I've created a movieclip with buttons inside that I want to use to navigate to different scenes on the main timeline. I have created a function() that loads the button movieclip into the main timeline, but if I try to write a function() to activate the button and move the main timeline to a different scene/frame label it doesn't work. I have tried various things:
navBack_mc.book_btn.onRelease = function() {
_root.gotoAndStop("book1");
}
I put the code above on the main timeline. It doesn't seem to work. Basically, I could put just an on(release) handler on the buttons, but I wanted to try to keeping all the AS in one place if I can.

How can I access the main timeline from inside a MovieClip. In short words I would like to be able to move the main timeline from a MovieClip, for instance if I have a MovieClip called myMc and I want the main timeline to gotoAndStop in frame (3) when myMc is done paying.

I have 2 scene, using button to swap in between file. If the button is in maintime line i can swap in between but my button is inside a movieclip in scene_1. After I click it reload the scene_1 and my script on button is:

I have a thumbs_mc with thumbnail images. Within thumbs_mc, I have a transparent overlay_mc that functions as a button. Mouse over the overlay_mc and the alpha chages so there is a tint over that particular thumbnailWhen overlay_mc is clicked, the main timeline goes to a particular frame label.What I need to do is have the position of the playhead on the main timeline also determine the alpha of the overlay_mc so the viewer knows which thumbnail is playing.

I have a button inside a movieclip, to which I would like to apply a rollover function. When rolled over, this button (inside MOVIECLIP 1) would make (MOVIECLIP 2) jump to second frame. I'm using Flash 8.This is turning onto a real headache for me, since i've searched every single forum and thread concerning this matter, and nothing seems to work.

I created a Movie Clip with a button inside it. The Movie Clip contains simple animation within its timeline. I dragged the Movie Clip to the main stage and tested the movie/ My goal is to have the button start the animation inside the Movie Clips timeline but it is not working.The Movie Clip instance is named 'film_mc' and the button inside it is named 'first_btn.' The frame is labeled 'one'. I tried these two Action Scripts that I put on the main timeline. Where am I going wrong?

as always, this seemed simple in AS2, but i am stumped with this simple command in AS3.
i have a main timeline [one scene] that has multiple movies, one after each other, in different frames. i need the buttons that are placed in a layer below the movies to access various movies in the scene. was really simple in AS2.
it appears that i can get my button to go to the frame, but the movie contained in the frame will not load and or play. [i have 2 frames dedicated to each movie, the second frame, in the actions layer has a stop command]. the following is the actionscript and the errors i am getting.

I have a movie created that is broken down into sections on the timeline (home about contact etc) Each section has a movieclip I want to be able to be in the about movieclip and click a button that will bring you back to the main timeline contact section Heres is the actionscript I am using to navigate the main timeline for each section

I have a btn within a Movieclip at a certain keyframe the user is asked if they want to go back to make another selection from a choice category (within the maintimeline)
As of now the code I have for the btn that jumps you back to the main timeline is:
on (press) { gotoAndStop(_root.stop(24));}
Does _root.stop(24) need to be in quotes?
ie. "_root.stop(24)"

If I have a movieclip on the main timeline, and a button in that movie clip. How would I go about getting it to advance the main timeline to its next frame? I understand that in AS3 movie clips are not connected to the timeline in the same way as they are in AS2 but I dont understand why the following works, or if there is a better way?

I have some submenu buttons in a movieclip on the mainline. My first level of navigation in on main timeline. The submenus are grouped in movieclips on the main timeline. I basically used the same code on the main navigation for the sub navigation except the code for the submenus is in that movie clip. My trace statement reads the button is clicked (which was a quantum leap for me) but I know I need some kind of _parent code in there so it knows to go to label back on main timeline. I feel like I am so close.
Also is this an ok way to set this up? I couldn't figure out how to do it in one frame. I didn't realize this basic framework was going to be so difficult.

I can get my menu buttons to move me around the timeline, but am at a loss as to how to move to a frame on the main timeline using a button within a movieclip that has it's own timeline.
So what I mean is that on the mian timeline, a movieclip graphic with a button in it drops down. This movieclip has it's own timeline, and any AS to control the button has to be in this timeline. So how do I tell it 'when the button is clicked, go BACK to frame X on the MAIN timeline?
Here's the AS on the main timeline for the menu buttons (how would I adapt it to apply to buttonX within movieclipZ?, and where would I put this extra code in my movie?):

I have a button inside a movieclip. When the button is clicked I want it to make a movieclip in the main timeline go to a specific frame. what's the code I need to use to define that movieclip located on the main timeline? Right now I have my code written inside the movieclip where the button is located because I have multiple buttons on multiple frames, and I don't know the syntax to define a button in a specific frame inside a movieclip.

I'm having a bit of a hard time with calling a function in the main timeline through a button in a movieclip. The mc is in the main timeline and in it I added a button with this.removeMovieClip(); and so far it works, but when I try to call a function from the main timeline it just doesn't seem to work.

I'm having trouble trying to manipulate music using buttons. I can't seem to make music1 autoplay and loop when the movie starts. I want to stop music1 and play music2 when I press a button:

i know i've done this before! i have a swf. 4 labels. a stopat frame 1. i embedd this into my main timeline. i have 4 butons inan MC in my main project, going to specific labels in my maintimeline, where i have the following code, attempting to load theswf and jump to that label:

I built my website on the main timeline with a fade in animation...stop(on the page) and a fade out animation. At the end of this fade out animation i would like it to call upon a variable to know what page to go to next.I am trying to tell my main timeline to gotoAndPlay a frame based off of a variable within a movieclip(about_mc this movieclip contains another movieclip which acts like a button(factsheet_mc)) that i have set in my main timeline.I set the variable with:

I have a mc with thumbnail images ('thumbs_mc'). Within 'thumbs_mc,' I have mc instances that change alpha on rollon and rollout. When clicked, these mc instances also control the main timeline. That's all good and working fine.Now, however, I want something over each thumbnail to indicate which of them is currently active. (I thought about using the same mc for both the mouseover and current marker, but it's problematic since rolling off the mc sets the alpha to 0, destroying the current marker.)
So I figured that I could use another mc (one instance is 'mark_red_btn') and just control its visibility, based upon the where the playhead is in the main timeline.This is what I have in the first frame of the mc that contains the thumbs the mouseovers and the current markers:
mark_red_btn._visible=false;
if (_root._currentframe == "red") {
mark_red_btn._visible = true;
};
Unfortunately, it is not working. The mc 'mark_red_btn' stays invisible even when the main timeline is on the frame labeled 'red.'
