I've run into a situation where my text fields will format text properly if called at load, but will not do it on a MOUSE DOWN; they just load plain text on the click.

I tried something which was very simple in AS2, attaching dynamic movieclip and then attaching dynamic textfield inside that MC, which should update on progress event for loading an image, displaying percentage of loading done. Surprisingly, I have no problem with displaying accurate percentage info, my problem is this: most of the updates of textfield.text writes itself OVER the old text, instead of replacing it. Hehehehehe, LOL! You get it? It behaves like I create new textfield over the old one each time I update text. And I'm sure the code is not recreating textfield or MC, at least I'm positive thats not what I told it to do. So although I'm a bit new to AS3, and may probably doing something wrong, I'm getting more and more suspicious that this is a bug within flash itself, the thing that should not be.
It will be hard for me to recreate the code here, as I tried many different things in the meantime, so I'll just show bits of latest version which doesn't create totally dynamic MC and textfield, but attaches dynamically MC containing textfield which is inside library. The problem remains the same, and I'm sure I compile/upload latest swf version and clean browser cache everytime...Code://btw, timeline is public static MovieClip, which is like root,//and containerMC is public static MovieClip which is attached separately//Also if you see something without being declared as var, be sure its a static property declared in class

I'm working on a system to let customers write a small comment.I'm using a xml file to load the comments, but somehow something goes wrong when I try to give it some special formatting.Here is my as3 code:

Now as you can see in the xml the 1st message is without any formatting, the 2nd and 3rd are. In the attached comment.jpg you can see what the result is. I can't figure out where the "enter" and those extra "spaces" are coming from but I suspect it's from the 'font' tags.btw. those red background are just the textField backgrounds to show where the text should start.
I am populating the text of text fields with data from an XML file. I would like to do two things.

First, I would like to format the text... bold, font size, etc...Second, I would like to concatenate the first and last name to appear on the same line without space in between caused by two text fields. I tried the following, but it didn't work.

I have a screen in a Flash window with four TextFields(just regular text, no html formatting).If I tab from one TextField to the next, select all the text (using keyboard command), and then start typing, the text formatting is removed.
This does not happen if I click into the TextField before tabbing into it.Even clicking into a TextField, placing the insertion point at the begging of the text, selecting via keyboard, and typing does not reproduce the effect.I'm pretty sure this has something to do with the TextField receiving focus, but am not sure how to work around it as there is no restricted order to type into TextFields.

I have created an array of TextFields to create something close to an editable grid. Have applied some formatting (font size, etc.) on each of these TextFields. But when I test my movie and add something in one of these boxes, the text does not appear with formatting

In my project i am saving one textfield property <p align='right'> in server but when i am assigning this value from server its changing to <p align='left'>. So how could we remove this auto formatting by htmlText? As in [URL] link there is written also "When its htmlText property is traced, the output is the HTML-formatted String, with additional tags (such as <P> and <FONT>) automatically added by Flash Player." i want to remove this auto adding tag.
View 3 RepliesI'm having a hard time with dynamic text field formatting and I'm hoping that someone can shed some light on what the problem I'm having is.My understanding is that you can do some basic formatting of dynamic fields if you set them to render html ie the little <> button. So, I have an array containing a set of strings, which contain something akin to "<b>some text</b> the rest of the text" The problem I am having is that the text is not showing up as bold. In fact the text inside the bold tag is not showing up at all.Doing a search I came across the TextFormat(), but that appears to only be useful when formatting an entire textfield and not a portion of the whole field.

For example, every time the word 'the' appears, apply a text format that changes it to green and 14pt. Here is an example of a format and text applied to a textfield. The only problem is: actionscript 3 seems to ignore the format and stubbornly applies the default text format. How can I apply the desired format on user typed text? Here's my code so far. As you can see, for experimental reasons I tried to apply the size "60" on the text, but if you execute the script, the size of the text remains unchanged:

I'm workin' on a cool project for school. I'm loading up some text from an external XML doc, and bringing it in to a flash textField.
It's working great, but I want to do a little formatting, first off, apply a bold tag or a bold font to some headings.

I'm actually looking to achieve almost the same results as the World of Warcraft launcher with a news section. the way i think to work it is that i create either a textArea component or a textfield and display html page in it. This html page could contain text, image and flash SWF.
but here's the problem, textField and textArea component are very limited in displaying and formating HTML pages. So i don't know if i should continue to search and try developping this way or find another way for displaying dynamic stuff that can be easily updated.
When I load an external text file it takes two clicks of the button to get the text to loadThe first click is blank the second click loads the text.

I have a movieclip in an external swf, called menubg. In the library properties tab, it reports the size as 1024x768.I use an embed statement to pull the movieclip from the swf at compile time. It comes in just fine (as a Sprite since that seems to be the only way to instantiate an object from an external swf), you can see it without a hitch, but tracing out the size info does not return the same WxH as the original.Here's some code, and the trace outs

I'm trying to do a pretty simple modulo equation but i'm getting a weird return.0.03 % 0.01I was expecting there to be no remainder, so the answer would be 0. However the return flash gives me is: 0.009999999999999998If I bump everything up to whole Numbers it works just fine: 3 % 1 = 0However I know eventually I'll be doing something like 3.4 % 1 and I'm concerned that at that point I'll run into this same issue.
View 4 RepliesI have a match game, drag and drop a word to a definition. The flow of this game is that after you have answered you click a button and then the game removes the right answers and redisplays the wrong ones. So far that works, what doesn't is that after the answer portion and I put the wrong words/definitions the drag doesn't "visually" work. when i run in debug the drag is firing, but the object doesn't move on the screen. it also doesn't hit any target (which seems obvious). I never destroy the object.So As far as I can see the mouse events should still be working. example can be found here: [URL]

See the problem when you fill up the RichEditableText with characters? Keep typing the word hello until you cross outside of the first visible area of the RichEditableText. things get weird. Try it out. how to prevent the weirdness? (the text starts jumping up and down)

2) I have my text objects encapsulasted in a class so I do not believe I am able to do it like I have been suggested.
I'm using the following to remove a textFeild from the stage I then need to add this textField back to the stage at a later time....i tried using addChild the problem is the text that was in the text field prior to the removal is still in the textfield when i re add it......How do i remove the textfield and replace it with a fresh textfield at a later time?....using msgTa.text =""; is not an option.

I tried to rotate a textfield with the 3D rotation tool, but when you do this, the textfields gets blurry.And it seems like it's not a vector text anymore, because when you zoom in, it still is blurry.Is there a way to prevent that?
View 5 Repliesi would just like to ask why is the case that when i use embedfonts = true on a textfield, the textfield's text only resizes according to the textfield's height but not the textfield's width. meaning if i make the textfield's height bigger, the text also gets bigger in terms of height, but not width, can't the embedded font maintain aspect ratio according to the textfield height?
I'm only wondering about this because this is not the case when embedfonts= false
in as3 how do i get the text of a textfield to know when to line break according to the width of the textfield.
