ActionScript 3.0 :: Turn A String Into A Properly Structured Object?

Mar 3, 2010

I'm using an online service (heyzap.com if anyone wanted to know) for storing small amounts of data from my Flash app. The data is sent to the server as an object, which can contain any kind of structure including arrays, numbers, strings etc. However, when the object is returned back to the app, for some reason, it has been turned into a string representation of the object. I don't think it should be like that - but it is. So if I create a textbox on screen and write the code:

myTextbox.text = receivedObject;
it shows this:
{"myArray":[{"myInteger":0,"myString":"string0","myData":[1,2,3]},

[code]....

Actionscript :: Xml - Turn An XML String Into An Object

Feb 8, 2011

I am pretty new to AS, and I am assuming there is a way to do this and I am just not figuring it out. Basically, I am trying to use a service that returns xml and return an Object regardless of the structure of the xml. In .Net I use the XmlSerializer.Deserialize class... is there equivalent in AS?

I was able to find SimpleXMLDecoder but I can't seem to get it to work - it also looks like it might only work with nodes? Either way, the examples out there are sparse and hard to follow, I just want to know how to take xml like this:

And simply turn it into an Object - is this possible without writing my own parser?

My question is, is there any way I can turn "variable" itself (the name, not the value) into a String to be added into a text field?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Variable Failing To Read String Properly?

Sep 11, 2009

I have a number of checkbox's on the stage. The client would like the half dozen or so checkbox selections to be in a random order each time the frame is viewed. Simple enough, I created a random array...

Code:
var Q3Labels:Array=["17p deletion","p53 mutation/deletion","11q deletion","Trisomy 12","13q deletion"];
function getQ3Labels():String {

[Code].....

But when I test this code I get a "1084 Syntax error: expecting rightparen before .", so it seems it's reading Q3A as literally "q3a_chkbox.label" not "11q deletion" (or whatever). If I change the Q3A variable to simple text then it works fine,

How Are Flash Based Site Structured

Sep 30, 2010

As opposed to building a site from scratch I pointed him to Template Monster so in the essence of time we could just gut one. Once there of course the shiny ball that is Flash seduced him. He is hell bent that he wants one of those fully Flash animated sites, where every click or hover of your mouse will produce some effect. I've worked with Flash intro's in the past and didn't foresee this being a problem. However right after unzipping the source files from TM I could see right away I am out of my element.When I opened it up I saw there was not only a "site" file but at "site_flash" file. Upon further inspection it looks like in the "site" file there's what the site would look like with no Fash animation. In the "site_flash" file I run the SWF file and it looks like the whole site done up in Flash. This is where I'm confused, is the "site" file just the non-Flash version of the site in case we want to run that instead or for non-Flash browsers? Or does it work like layers, you put the HTML non-Flash site down and all the Flash animation, in a sense, lays on top of it?I was thinking I'd just go in edit this template with my friends information and I'd be done in a week. I'm hoping someone can help me make sense of what I'm looking at. If it helps here's the link from TM's site explaining what's in the source file:URL...

C# :: Programmatically Extract Structured Data From A Bunch Of Web Pages?

Dec 18, 2009

What is the easiest way to programmatically extract structured data from a bunch of web pages? I am currently using an Adobe AIR program I have written to follow the links on one page and grab a section of data off of the subsequent pages. This actually works fine, and for programmers I think this(or other languages) provides a reasonable approach, to be written on a case by case basis. Maybe there is a specific language or library that allows a programmer to do this very quickly, and if so I would be interested in knowing what they are.

Also do any tools exist which would allow a non-programmer, like a customer support rep or someone in charge of data acquisition, to extract structured data from web pages without the need to do a bunch of copy and paste?

Actionscript 3 :: Flex - Embed Large Amounts Of Structured Array Data

Feb 18, 2010

how much memory (and swf size) the various built-in data types take up in actionscript 3? I'm specifically interested in int, Number, and (dense) Arrays or Vectors. I'm working on a project where I need to embed large amounts of structured array data, which is already in C++ format, so porting is just a matter of copy-paste, search-replace. I've already had a look at Adobe's lowdown on datatypes but it's not specific enough, and doesn't mention Arrays, etc.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Parse Out Url String Using The String Object In Flash?

Jan 13, 2005

I'm creating a CMS(Content Management System) tool so that users can change text and the changes be reflected in a text window in flash . The text that the user enters in the CMS tool will be stored in the database.

In flash I want to parse the string that I get from the database and look for URL strings that start with http "http://www.someurl.com" and parse out that substring.

For example the string could be "Please vist my site at http://www.site.com". I would want to parse out the http://www.site.com

If I find this url string I want to pre-pend the a href tag <a> and append the closing </a> tag to the string so that this link will be clickable from the textfield.

Does flash have an object that deals with Regular Expressions? I've looked at the String object in flash but not sure how to achieve this task

Game Engine :: Flash Multiplayer Turn By Turn?

Oct 7, 2011

I'll start off by saying I'm a newbie, just putting that out there. How do you make a turn by turn multiplayer flash game? I don't know if an engine is made in AS3, PHP, Javascript, or whatever,I made my game already, it's just that it isn'tmultiplayer yet. Basically, there are lines, and each player crosses out a number of lines, and the last player to cross out a line is the loser. I want it where one user crosses out some lines, then presses End Turn, then the other does their turn and then presses End Turn to allow the other player to move his cursor. But how can I get both players to see the same frame and only have one player have the ability to move the cursor during a turn? Is there some easily adaptable multiplayer engine for flash for newbies out there

ActionScript 3.0 :: Referencing An Object With A String

Apr 19, 2010

I need to know how to call or reference (not sure of the terminology) an object by way of a string. What I'm trying to do is create a loop that will add event listeners to objects named "portfolio1" through "portfolio15", and use a function.[code]If I could just reference these fricken objects through a string and an integer, I could set up a small loop like this to make the button "portfolio1" bring up a big jpeg of "bigportfolio_1", and "portfolio2" bring up a big jpeg of "bigportfolio_2", ext. While yes, I could just go through them all and set up event listeners to each one individually, but its REALLY inefficient. Also, I am still working on more advanced actions (like scrolling through the portfolio pics chronologically) that absolutely requires a different reference method.
