Flash :: Turn A String Into A Reference To An Object?

Jul 6, 2010

I'm wondering, and hoping, if I can access and use a specific instance of an object if I only have the name of the object instance in a string? The code below perhaps explains it a littler better.

Actionscript :: Xml - Turn An XML String Into An Object

Feb 8, 2011

I am pretty new to AS, and I am assuming there is a way to do this and I am just not figuring it out. Basically, I am trying to use a service that returns xml and return an Object regardless of the structure of the xml. In .Net I use the XmlSerializer.Deserialize class... is there equivalent in AS?

I was able to find SimpleXMLDecoder but I can't seem to get it to work - it also looks like it might only work with nodes? Either way, the examples out there are sparse and hard to follow, I just want to know how to take xml like this:

[Code]....

And simply turn it into an Object - is this possible without writing my own parser?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Turn A String Into A Properly Structured Object?

Mar 3, 2010

I'm using an online service (heyzap.com if anyone wanted to know) for storing small amounts of data from my Flash app. The data is sent to the server as an object, which can contain any kind of structure including arrays, numbers, strings etc. However, when the object is returned back to the app, for some reason, it has been turned into a string representation of the object. I don't think it should be like that - but it is. So if I create a textbox on screen and write the code:

myTextbox.text = receivedObject;
it shows this:
{"myArray":[{"myInteger":0,"myString":"string0","myData":[1,2,3]},

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash - Take The Name Of A Variable And Turn It Into A String?

I am making a simple debugger window in ActionScript for myself where I can add and remove variables I want to track. I was to be able to add variables to the list by just doing something like

DebuggerMonitor.trackVar(variable).

My question is, is there any way I can turn "variable" itself (the name, not the value) into a String to be added into a text field?

I am creating a decision tree in flash (where someone answers questions which eventually gets them to a preferable conclusion). I have been using code snippets to link the different frames. I have created an animation that I would like to play when the user gets to the conclusion (I will use the 'click to go to frame and play' code snippet) but how can I turn the animation file into a single frame or object but still function as a animation. I tried saving as a SWF and drag into my project so it could appear as a object but it only plays in another window.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Parse Out Url String Using The String Object In Flash?

Jan 13, 2005

I'm creating a CMS(Content Management System) tool so that users can change text and the changes be reflected in a text window in flash . The text that the user enters in the CMS tool will be stored in the database.

In flash I want to parse the string that I get from the database and look for URL strings that start with http "http://www.someurl.com" and parse out that substring.

For example the string could be "Please vist my site at http://www.site.com". I would want to parse out the http://www.site.com

If I find this url string I want to pre-pend the a href tag <a> and append the closing </a> tag to the string so that this link will be clickable from the textfield.

Does flash have an object that deals with Regular Expressions? I've looked at the String object in flash but not sure how to achieve this task

Game Engine :: Flash Multiplayer Turn By Turn?

Oct 7, 2011

I'll start off by saying I'm a newbie, just putting that out there. How do you make a turn by turn multiplayer flash game? I don't know if an engine is made in AS3, PHP, Javascript, or whatever,I made my game already, it's just that it isn'tmultiplayer yet. Basically, there are lines, and each player crosses out a number of lines, and the last player to cross out a line is the loser. I want it where one user crosses out some lines, then presses End Turn, then the other does their turn and then presses End Turn to allow the other player to move his cursor. But how can I get both players to see the same frame and only have one player have the ability to move the cursor during a turn? Is there some easily adaptable multiplayer engine for flash for newbies out there

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash : Reference Input Text Box String?

how to make a simple AS3 class.I've made a simple calculator application that allows you to add, subtract, multiply, and divide after entering 2 values into their respective text box.The problem, how ever, is once I moved it into it's own class, I cannot figure out how to reference the text fields. I have the movie clips referenced just fine, but, I cannot figure out the text fields.Here are the errors it's spitting out:

Code:
1120: Access of undefined property Number1_txt.

And it does that for each instance of those in the Calculator.as

I recall in Flash there is some way to fully qualify the reference by prepending the stage or something like that

Flash :: Reference Var From Frame On Timeline In An Object Class?

Jan 17, 2011

I'm using Flash Professional cs5/AS3 I'll try and describe this the best I can. I'm new to ActionScript. So, in my timeline I have a var on a frame that represents "lives" and i have some code in the timeline that takes down the number of lives depending on certain events, which all works great.

so, now i wanted to make a constructor class that I could reuse for a bunch of movie clip objects and I only want these objects to be able to move if the lives variable is greater than certain number. So now, building my constructor class for these objects i just wanted put an if statement that is looking to see if the lives are greater than a certain number, which if it is then should make these objects do what i want...But, when i run the project I get "1120: Access of undefined property lives."

lives is the var I made obviously like I said, and it works fine being referenced everyone else except when I make a new .as file for these objects then try and reference it. I get the same error when I try and establish "lives" in the main project class too. I'm not sure where I should put this var or how I can make it so i can reference it from an object class. I'm not really sure how to word or describe my issue which has made it hard to search for a tutorial.

Flash :: Null An Object Kill Reference Or The Space In Memory?

Jan 12, 2010

This might be a dumb question. I think I already know the answer, just clarify. If you declare a object in varible1 and then pass the value into varible2. If you decide to null varible2 would that kill just the reference or the object itself as well. I want to say no, but then again, everything you do to the reference it self, also affects the space in memory.these are the 2 varibles in my class.

private var objects:Array;
private var viewableObjects:Array;

above are class varibles. Later on in my code I add an object to the objects arrayobjects[0][4] = new Enemy1();When i trace i get the following[object Enemy1]I then add it to viewable objects arrayviewableObjects.push(objects[0])
