ActionScript 3.0 :: Using Loader To Load An External Swf And Control The External Swf?
Nov 17, 2010
as3 is new for me, but i would like to write a script using loader to load an external swf, and control the external swf. But I find I can't control the swf, because there are no fixed instance name. here is my script.
I have a main "shell" swf which, by clicking several buttons, will load/unload various external swfs into a Placeholder_mc which resides on the main timeline in Shell.swf In the documentation and tutorials I've seen a couple different methods, and I'm not sure I quite understand the difference, or at least the reason you would use one over the other...In the 1st method, you can just add the Loader object using the addChild() method:
Code:
var myLoader:Loader = new Loader(); var myURLRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("ExternalFileA.swf"); myLoader.load(myURLRequest); Placeholder_mc.addChild(myLoader);
This will apparently add myLoader to the display list once it has completely loaded.The 2nd method, you supposedly can add the Loader.content; however, it appears you can only do this once the content has completed loading, so you need to incorporate an event handler with the contentLoaderInfo object:
Code:
var myLoader:Loader = new Loader(); var myURLRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("ExternalFileA.swf"); myLoader.load(myURLRequest);
[code]....
What are the pros/cons of adding the entire Loader object, as opposed to the Loader.content and vice versa?
When i try to load an external swf file using Loader.Load(); The swf starts playing even before the init event is fired. Is there any way to stop the swf from playing atleast until the init event or complete event is fired?
I am trying to load an external swf into another swf using Loader but I am having difficulties to do so. The thing seems to be that some of the classes of the loaded clip are called the same as the parent clip's classes. Both swf's document classes are called "Launcher", for example, also they use StringUtil (tho both projects have their own "StringUtil" class).
I have a flash rotating banner script that I purchased, and wish to incorporate into my homepage. Instead of creating a page with HTML and adding the banner code as a separate object on the page, I wish to load it as an external swf into a movieclip on my stage. This is what the banner looks like:
[URL]
I have a page that I'm redesigning, it's located at:
[URL]
I have a movieclip named load_banner. Inside the movieclip in its own frame, I put in the following code:
I am trying to make a loader that will load 5 external swf. What im aiming for is one loads--> one plays--> one ends--> one unloads two loads--> two plays--> two ends--> two unloads ect..
i am having trouble getting to follow this sequence. Trace statements tell me they load but only the last displays
I'm very new to flash - I'm trying to use a pre-loader that loads an external SWF file. Its working except the percentage in the bar is actually reflecting how much of the entire page is loaded, not how much of just the flash banner is loaded. The result is that the percentage bar is still visible over the top of the flash banner when it begins to play and the percentage bar continues to load until the whole page is loaded.
how to load an external using a loader to show while its loading...my swf which is to be loaded is a gallery having jus one frame on which action script is placed..
I have a quick question. I have created a quick gallery page/swf that uses Greensock Liquid stage/area etc that re-sizes the content upon browser re-size (keeps proportion).
My problem presents itself when I apply a external loader to load the swf using LoaderMax. I'm using the code available on the site and replaced the areas with my titles - yet when I load in browser it displays very small (the size of the external loader stage), and doesn't use the liquid stage within the gallery/page swf. Any ideas as to why? Do I have to add another liquid stage to the loader swf and attach the content?
In AS3 i am using the Loader class to load in multiple external SWFs (AVM1), each of which has a short animation which automatically plays when the swf is I obviously cannot control the timeline of these (i can't use local connection etc) but would like to load in the *.swf files, so they're in memory then add them to the stage when requested. the problem is that if i load them enmass. then use addChild when they are called, they have already played through and animated pre the addChild command.
(I cannot edit the swfs at all, and would rather not load them on demand at runtime)
Each of the button should load it's external SWF's intro when click.My problem is that I don't know how to command the button to play the swf's outro and then load the next swf everytime I click a button. Example: When I click homeButton_btn, the external swf should load "home.swf" and then if I am going to click page1Button_btn, the outro of "home.swf' should play and then once it reaches the end of it's timeline, it should load "page1.swf". Same goes with page2Button_btn, whatever swf that is on the stage should play it's outro first and then load "page2.swf"
My questions are: 1. How can I control the external SWF to play it's outro and then load the next SWF.
2. What code should I put at the end of the external SWF's timeline.
3. Where do you think I should put the preloader? Is it better to put it at the external swf timeline? or on my main swf timeline?
4. Does load and unload of external swf also work with movieclips? Like for example I will not use a external swfs, instead I will use movieclips to load and unload its content.My Actionscript 3.0 code
var pageContainer:Loader; pageContainer = new Loader(); var nextMov:String;[code].........
I have the following code which simply loads an external swf, puts it in the right place and should all be hunky dory.This works:
Code: var myLoader:Loader = new Loader(); addChild(myLoader); var url:URLRequest=new URLRequest("foobar.swf");[code].....
to set the dimensions of the loader so the external swf doesn't 'spill over', the result is a blank screen. No matter how high I set those dimensions it just doesn't display anything.
I usually wouldn't post on here as I like to find the answer myself, but after looking through Google literally all day I'm at the end of my tether, so I'm going to impose on you all and ask. This is the situation;
Structure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.
I am trying to get a nav button in one movie (main_nav.swf) to target a my main movie (index.swf) and load a sub nav movie (metals_subnav_infinite.swf) into it. The sub nav movie will do a similar task - loading a portfolio swf into main movie (index.swf). Here is the file breakdown of my working files:index.swf - main final movie which loads "main_nav_infinite3.swf" on startmain_nav_infinite3.swf - loads main nav "main_nav.swf" and scrolls it infinitely (infinite menu)main_nav.swf - main nav with buttons that trigger sub nav "metals_subnav_infinite.swf" to load into index.swfmetals_subnav_infinite.swf - loads sub nav "metals_subnav.swf" and scrolls it infinitelymetals_subnav.swf - sub nav with buttons that trigger "folio.swf" (have not created this file yet!) to load into "index.swf"The script I was focusing on is in main_nav.fla and it is:
I'm loading a swf with the AS3 Loader class. It's being done from a main.swf that has nothing but a preloader display. The content is all in the swf that I'm loading with the Loader class. It's working. But the swf's playhead seems to be already 40 or so frames down the timeline once it's displayed on the stage. So I want to tell the loaded swf to gotoAndPlay(1) after the preload is complete in the relevant handler. The handler fires, but I don't know how to access the swf in question.loader.content returns a DisplayObject and trying to talk to it with MovieClip properties throws errors. I've tried to cast it as a MovieClip based on various things I've seen via searches here and in the docs, but that's failing, too.How does one do this the "right" way?And for that matter, why has the timeline already started to play before the swf is visible on stage?
ActionScript Code: private function onLoadComplete(event:Event):void { // what can I do to take _loader.content and make it accessible for a gotoAndPlay() or some
How do you load external library objects from an external swf? I want to have an external swf that only contains library objects that are exported for Actionscript, and load these from the master .swf file dynamically during the master swf execution. (I may have multiple external swf resource files)I want to be able to load the external swf, and then access it's library objects via actionscript in my main swf file.
I've got a small (more than 100 hours of thinkwork up till now!) problem I can't seem to solve:
I want to populate an external loaded swf with an dynamicly loaded xml fil (loaded from my config.xml).
[Code].....
how do I get the external xml into the external swf as a variable for the actionscript in the external loaded swf (So I just want to put the path in the script in my external swf...).
I'm starting to get an understanding of how all of this works, but it's all to new to me at the moment, so I'm sure I've approached it from the wrong angle.
this works right on its own but when using addchild in main.swf the menu loads the button events work, even click but it will not load the associated file. If i place the menu code in the main.swf it loads all required files. QUESTION How do reference menu.swf when loaded as an external swf?
I have a "about.swf" file that loads a CSS file and formats some dynamic HTML text. On its own, it works fine...but when it gets loaded into my "Main.swf", it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong? Is there a bug that doesn't let you load CSS with external .swf's?My style sheet and index file holding the "Main.swf" are all on the root level of my site. The "Main.swf" has a "holder_mc" clip that I load the "about.swf" into which has the CSS formatting. When loaded into "Main.swf", it doesn't work.
I'm sure this question has been answered but I have been looking everywhere and all I can find is how to load an external SWF but not how to unload it. I come from a basic knowledge of AS2 and it was easy for me to load using levels but I have run into a wall. I have a main swf and to keep the initial filesize small I would like to split some image intensive sections out and load them when needed.
Normally I do get by with a lot of R&D, but for some reason am stumped and really pressed for time!An interactive file (say main.swf) is already ready to go.I now need to make this play over a background (say bg.swf) which is a fairly heavy file.
What I'm trying to do it this:Open a new flash document (say "index.fla")- on the first frame, call "bg.swf" by using "loadMovie('bg.swf', 2)"[where 2 is the level number] and then calling "main.swf" by using "loadMovie('main.swf' 4)" [where 4 is the level number]
Now the problem I am facing is this:"bg.swf" is quite a heavy file so takes quite some time to load, whereas "main.swf" is much lighter and loads before "bg.swf" buffers fully.
What I want to achieve is this:Create a new swf file (say "index.swf"), making sure that "main.swf" does not load until "bg.swf" loads completely under it. Note: I cannot make any edits to "main.swf" (which is like a slideshow) file and it is rendered such that it starts the slideshow after 5 seconds.
I have a loader component on my stage that I load 30 or so different external swfs into. Their stages are all exactly the same size as the loader. But one external swf has an image that extents outside it's stage size, AND it is this that gets rescaled (shrinks) when loaded into the loader. How can I fix the size of just this one external swf?
I have a map of the US acquired from here (called U.S. Map). I am currently generating XML from inside an ActionScript file, and would then like to display this map using my generated XML as the argument. According to this, to do this in html would require the following declaration:world.swf?ata_file=pathname/filename.xmlHow can I replicate this behavior using the Loader from ActionScript? Right now I have:
var ldr:Loader = new Loader(); var url:String = "us/us.swf?data_file=senate.xml"; var urlReq:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
when I run the code there aren't any errors stopping it from compiling correctly. However when I click on my buttons i get an error saying:
Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2035: URL Not Found.
I'm guessing that I'm passing the variable off through the function incorrectly. I'd like it pass a string though so that I can pass the name of the file to load.
ActionScript Code: function contentScreen(mcName):void { var imageRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("mcName"); var imageLoader:Loader = new Loader();
I am using the below code to load in external swfs. I normally put the preloader in the external swf but that does not work with this code. I therefore need to put the preloader in this swf. All the preloader need to be is the numbers (1-100).
Code: Select all/ /EXTERNAL SWF LOADER var loader:Loader= new Loader();
Is it possible to load an external SWF and control is with play/pause buttons, seekbar, and volume bar?Basically it would be something like this:controller.swf - this would load the external swf file and control itmovie.swf - this is the actual content that I'd like to control
how i should be executing external functions from a .swf loader...here's my loader function:
Code: on (keyPress "e") { _root.createEmptyMovieClip("container", 1);[code].......
i can easily load the swf into the frame, but the colors don't change. Playing coloreffects.swf on its own works fine, just not through the loader. I imagine this is because you can't just operate two levels of AS2 at once...
