ActionScript 3.0 :: Variable Storing Whether The Player Is Selected To Be Passed Back To The Actual Grid Class

Feb 16, 2009

I'm trying to make a game that is turn-based and allows players to first be selected, then click on a grid square to move there. However, I can't get a way for a variable storing whether the player is selected to be passed back to the actual grid class. I want the grid class to have an event listener that when the grid is clicked on, it will move the player there only if the player is selected. But whenever I try to declare a global variable either inside the grid class or even a document class or even access properties of the character class I'm trying to move I get errors.

Actionscript 3 :: Anonymous Class Passed As Variable To Function?

Jun 20, 2011

In c++ if I have a function that takes a class I have defined elsewhere as a parameter like so:void moveto(CPoint2D point) { ... }I can invoke it and pass along data to it like this:moveto(CPoint2D(0,0));basically creating the object and invoking it's constructor to be passed to the functionIs there an equivalent to this in AS3?if I have a function like this:function initialize(min:Point, max:Point): void { ... }how do I do something along the lines of :initialize(Point(0,0), Point(10,10))This throws an error im assuming because it thinks I want to cast something to a point and the notation I found earlier to do something similar only seemed to work if using the basic Object class.

Flex :: Check For Nil 'true' Value On XML That Is Passed Back From Webservice Call?

Sep 27, 2011

I am receiving xml from a webservice call that contains a nil="true":[code]I used the Flex DataService (webservice) wizard to create the service objects for the cacheEntry component. This object will be serialized later on a different webservice call and stored in a database.I set a breakpoint on the set SystemFK method in the service object. It appears that the value passed in was an empty string!Allowing this value to be an empty string will cause problems in the webservice implementation in Java on the other side. Since the database value was null it is expecting a null in return, If I avoid setting this value, the serviceObject should send back a null which will make the database happy.How can I detect that a nil = true is present in the XML in order to avoid setting this value?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Substitute A Variable With Another Variable's Name Instead Of Its Actual Value?

May 18, 2010

I was wondering if its possible to substitute a variable with another variable's name instead of its actual value. I have a variable named "pLeg" thats equal to the value of 1.I have blank variable named "itemVar".Now, I want "itemVar" to equal to "pLeg", but not of its value, but of its name string.The reason is because I need "itemVar" to substitute multiple variables in a main timeline code.

For example:

Code:
if(_root.itemVar !== 1) {
//do something
}

"itemVar" can be any variable, like pTorso, or pWeapon or anything. Which is why I can't have it equal to the variables actual value, because then the timeline code would turn out to be:

Code:
if( 1 == 1) {
//1 being itemVar
}

PS: I've tried add quotations like _root.itemVar = "pLeg" but Flash will not read it as a variable.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Function Variable Not Passed Down?

Jul 26, 2009

My code seems to produce an error (7 times - same code) "1120: Access of undefined property xmlMarker." This appears on all occasions where the variable 'xmlMarker' is called outside of the function ('showData') where it was first produced.

Code:
stop();
var placesXML:XML =
<places>[code]............

I have a feeling that I shouldn't refer to the variable as a 'MovieClip', but I am unsure what else to pu thee if that is where the fault lies.On the stage there are several buttons relating to the place names attributes (works perfectly), dependent upon which button is pressed, the scene then jumps to a frame (again this works well), however within that frame there will either be 'myMarker_mc', or myMarker_mc2' (this does not work!).

ActionScript 3.0 :: Any Way To Look At Each Variable Passed Into Parameters?

Dec 22, 2010

Is there a way to look at each variable passed into the paramaters of a function. For example, taken the given code.

Code:
package {import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.display.Shape;
public class Dot extends MovieClip {
color:uint;
dotSize:uint;
[Code] .....

So in this instance it would loop through color, dotSize, doughnutSize, and doughnutHoleSize and set the paramaters of the class to be the same value.
Example for each loop:
Code:
for (var key:String in object){
trace(key + ": " + object[key]); // object[key] is value
}
So, is this possible?

it works fine

But if I pass in a variable:

var fullpath:String = "http://www.miniclip.com/games/cube-buster/en/cubebuster.swf"
loadMovie( fullpath , 1);

it fails ???

Can't find anyone else's comments on such an issue.

Using flash 8, as2 on Mac osx

The example above remote domain example works fine within flash IDE

My actual application using a relative path to a sub directory, for a little obfuscation.

This is what i want to accomplish:

xmlData.load("albums/album"+ppp+"/images.xml");

Data Integration :: Storing Value From XML Into A Variable?

May 17, 2006

There is a combo-box by the name "cbJobs" and it gets its value from the XML file named "data.xml".. I want to store the value transferred from this XML file into a variable.. so basically someone told me to use the code

on (change) {
_root.subject = this.getValue();
}

the only problem with this code is that it gets activated only after I "change" the value in combobox by pulling it down.. I want to use this value obtained from _root.subject as a subject in the script

getURL("mailto:abc@abc.com?subject="+_root.subject);
