ActionScript 3 :: Scroll To Alphabet In List (ArrayCollection DataProvider)

I have a list (LIST#1) of artists:
2Pac
Adele
Amerie
Beyonce
Jason Aldean
Shakira
The Trews
I also have a list (LIST#2) that has the values #,A-Z - how would I create an alphabet jump? So If a user clicked on "A" in LIST#2 that would automatically scroll to "Adele" at the top of LIST#1 - not filter so he/she could scroll up to view 2Pac or down to view The Tews if they were not in the view yet. Its a standard Flex Spark List with an ArrayCollection as the dataProvider - the artist field is called: "title" along with a unique id field that is not visible to the user.

I have a Datagrid with an ArrayCollection as DataProvider, the arrayCollection is partially generated by a remoteObject call, the dataprovider seems to works at least until I try to edit the field...By the RemoteObject I only receive an ArrayCollection with the field ip, but the datagrid looks for the fields ip, check and save...If I add/edit this new field it works, but only under particular condition
The DataGrid:

This code always work in the 3 points, so at the end of the call the ArrayCollection is always filled with the new values, but the datagrid refresh the items only in point #1 and #2.

I use httpservice with object result to load data on dropdownlist. Some time the result is only one element. In this case, an error appear. I know that another solution is to e4x result format but I think that in this case it's longer.

Here am getting array of groups(groupName,GroupID each row ) from a RemoteObject and displaying in a ComboBox. I am selecting the groups with selectedIndex as 0,1,2,3, but I want my groupIDs of correspoding groupnames,which am bringing to client side.

I wrote a short AS program to create a tileList and it functions fine, but I need to be able to scroll the list of pics according to the position of the mouse with out actually moving the scroll bar.... example of what I mean: the farther to the right mouseX is on stage, the faster my tileList scrolls to the right, if mouseX moves to the left of the stage, so does the scroll bar...Here`s my code so far:

I'm using a List which I need to be empty at the start. I'm adding items to it as needed by clicking a button. Since it's empty, I haven't added a dataProvider property
<s:List id="thelist" itemRenderer="listIR" />
To add an item, I'm adding it to the dataProvider directly
thelist.dataProvider.addItem()
but when I do that, it gives me this error
#1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
Also I have a debugging Alert in the listIR itemRenderer itself and I see that when the list is created, I get that alert twice as if 2 itemRenderers were created, even though the list is supposed to be empty at the start.
How do I start with an empty dataProvider and add items smoothly to it?

The 'recommendations' dataProvider is an ArrayCollection of String, which are generally sentences about as long as this one. By setting the variableRowHeight and wordWrap properties as shown, if a sentence is too long to fit on a single line, everything works fine- the row expands and the messages show on two lines, or occasionally three.
The space allocated for this panel within the entire canvas means if the total text size of 'recommendations' exceeds six lines, I need for the entire list scroll. This is also working just fine. The trouble is when using the mouse wheel to do the scrolling- Flex scrolls both the entire list and the single item where the mouse is hovering. Often this results in only the second half of a sentence being visible. Non-programmer friends I have asked to look at this noticed this, and tell me it as a problem. If a user does not notice the dual scrolling, and sees only a fragment of a sentence, it will be perceived as an error in the application.

The code below sets up a List object in the main controller class that uses a custom cell renderer (CustomListCell class). the CustomListCell class creates a Button object for the cell that will be used to delete itself from the List's DataProvider. How can I properly access the parent List object from its custom cell renderer?

I have a component that contains a list that implements a custom renderer. I use this component as a tooltip, keeping one in memory and just altering the databindings as necessary.
Something like this where TTComponent is a class that extends Canvas:

Now, what happens is when data containing many items is set to tt.data, the list resizes itself larger and displays fine. However, after this, if data containing few items is set to tt.data, the component momentarily displays larger than it needs to be, then resizes itself smaller.
What I'd like to do is have the component resize itself before it displays, so I don't see the resize on screen.

I have some xml, I want to give it to a List dataprovider, but based on an attribute match.

And I am trying to do something like below, If I remove (@name=="general") from below line it gives me all property

I have this error. I am very very new to the Flex world. I have this function which returns an ArrayList.

Here, I got an error saying: implicit coercion of a value of type to an unrelated type mx.collections.ilist. I thought the IList implementation includes ArrayList.

In flex 4.5, I have an application that has a BorderContainer that loads a spark list (mxml style - _myList and the borderContainer is stored in a library outside of the parent application) that loads an arrayCollection with an itemRenderer (I should note said itemRenderer is not an inline renderer - on selection of an item in the list, the itemRenderer expands, loads a particular control within the item renderer based on data passed from the selected item in the list) and allows the user to perform a search. This works all well and good on startup/load, until I try to change the dataProvider for the list (my app allows users to switch data sources which then creates a new dataProvider with new variables). I have a simple list and a background refresh protocol.When the list is scrolled down, the refresh scrolls it back to the top. I would like to have a List displayed that displays data collected from the user into an ArrayCollection. I have a main DataHandling.as class that "adds" the data to the AC as an Object, but when I use trace() on the AC from another class, it does not show any values being present in the AC.
I also added some test data to make sure I was populating the AC correctly and that works just fine. I just can't seem to figure out how to add data (text specifically) to the array from another class. (The other file is .mxml)Here is my mxml code (MyCards.mxml):

what I need to do is combine 5 arrays with 5 individual strings (which have come from a JSON webservice) into one single list item in FlashBuilder Burrito. [code]I've pulled these out successfully and each one traces in the debugger, although as I need them all in the same list I'm struggling to establish them as a dataprovider together.If I push the strings and arrays together it is impossible to read properly, as the main Titles are at a different level to any descriptors for the products which are in the arrays.

I have a Spark List container whose dataProvider is bound to a result set coming back from a RemoteObject call. Pretty standard stuff.

The selectedIndex is associated with an HSlider, but that is not the problem. My issue is that I would like to automatically select a certain "preferred" element from the list (only initially...to guide the user).
I tried to do that in a creationComplete event but my data hadn't shown up yet...setting selectedIndex didn't work..

I am creating a map of the USA and when a user mouses over a particular state,I want to display a movie clip (which is just a text list of our dealers in that state). When the user mouses out I want the list to disappear.However, I want the user to be able to mouse over the list to scroll the list and whenever I try it, obviously the state loses focus and the MOUSE_OUT Event fires.How to I get around this?Here is the code I have currently:

I'm working on a flash cards application and am using an ArrayCollection of Objects to store each cards individual data. When the user click the 'save' button, the text from the two textAreas and the 'title' textinput are stored in the AC as one object with .title, .side1 and .side2 properties that contain the text from the flash card. I have made a List in a separate class I want to have display the title of each card the user has created, but after days of researching and looking around, I still cannot get the display to list the titles.

I have an arrayCollection of objects that extend Sprite, and have bitmaps within them. I want to display these in a list (or some other component that would allow a user to scroll through them, and see their associated data.)
When I do: myList.dataProvider = myArrayCollection
the list just shows a bunch of lines of [Object, Item] instead of the visual sprites.
Here is a simplified version of my Object:

I have a POJO which declares a collection of List<Long>.
We're currently sending an ArrayCollection of Number, and it's arriving at the client as an ArrayCollection, populated with IntegersGiven the issues with Type Erasure & generics I understand how this is happening. How do I fix it?
Unfortunately because of some internal limitations, the model cannot be changed. Ie - we can't use a subtype, and we can't implement IExternalizable.Are there other options for registering custom type converters in LCDS, other than IExternalizable? Alternatively, are there any annotations we can use that indicate the type to be used for a collection?
