Actionscript 2.0 :: Scroller With Scrollbar AND Buttons?

I'm in no way a Flash expert, and I've got a bit of a query. I've followed a few tutorials and managed to get a vertical scroller working pretty well. However, is there a way of having a set of buttons that will move the content of the scroller (and subsequently scrollbar) to a certain position, without breaking the scroll functionality?
I'm having trouble with my scroller only scrolling when it gets to the bottom of the path. This is from the tut on this site [URL]. Here is the actionscript I have for each mc:
I'm having problems with my AS2 and XML (on Flash 8). I finally figured how to create a simple slideshow which incorporates a "Next" and "Previous" button...but what i'm struggling with is: "How to click on the 'next' button so that the existing image scrolls to the left as the new image from the right moves to the center. And the opposite for the 'previous' button". Currently I have the existing image disappearing (alpha 0) and then the new image scrolls to the center from the right - which is not what I want to do.

i attach some buttons according to the tutorial from kirupa to a "menu_mc" mc.everything goes well. the buttons do attach.. the text inside them is visible!i make a scroller (also from a tutorial from over here) that scrolls a "contentMain" mc.everything goes well.... it scrolls.when i put the menu_mc inside the contentMain...... the buttons do attach, the scroller works fine... but the text inside my buttons is not visible.
1. can you tell me what's the problem? why don't the texts show?
2. how can I call the "scrolling()" function from inside that contentMain mc ... without using _root ?
The problem is: When I press my buttons twice, the text in the scroller disappears.Everything is set so that It shouldnt be possible to press the same button twice though.The situation in short is as follows. I have 4 scenes and 4 buttons, every button linking to respectively another scene / page. The buttons all are in movieclips. I have 4 different movieclips all containing all buttons. For the page movieclip the-button in the movieclip getsœswitched o by ungrouping it and so on, and so on.On every scene I put the movieclip, with the correct button switched of, on top, with thenction. The other movieclips are made invisible by the visible = true˜delete this.onEnterFrame; function.Im not a develloper but a graphic designer. Dont know much about AS2. i am making a scroller and need to have it so that when you hover on the up or down buttons, then it will keep moving the designated layer up or down. right now the event handler i am usiing (onRollOver) doesnt really work right because it only moves one pixel, then you need to roll off and roll back on.... i am thinking there must be some do... while statement for the rollover action but i cant find it...
trying to modify the custom scrollbar that is in the tutorial section, it works nice, but i need to scroll the contentMain with the up and down arrow keys also, i think it needs a listener event, but is a kind of tricky for me.The complete code that is in the tutorial exactly is this...

i have created some 6 -10 buttons and i want to keep these list of buttons in the scrollbar. so that a user can view only a set of 4-5 buttons at a time.i tried out the kirupa-scrollbar but when the masking is done on set of buttons all the buttons are under mask and i am unable to click any of those .i tried the UIscrollbar component, it works for the text area but not for the buttons
I know how to make a scrollbar for a text field, but how does one go about making a scrollbar for a non-text based item, say movieclip with a graphic inside?
I have a dynamic text field with scrollbar buttons that work in Firefox, chrome and safari but not IE8. I wish I could forget about IE8 but it's not possible yet. The following code is being used.
Is there anyway possible to take the "Simple Custom Scrollbar" on the Kipura site (http:url....)and make it so that the "UP" and "DOWN" keys on your keyboard also scroll the scrollbar?
I am trying to connect dynamic text to scrollbar and buttons. I did tutorial and Lynda.com and practically pasted the code in with my file names and for some reason it does not work. It says I have a "Access of Undefined Property mask_mc" Did I need to create a variable for this? I didn't in the tutorial.
Right now I have the dynamic text loading successfuly in 2 different places and I wantd to add the scrollbar. I put the variables on frame 1 code and then I put the actually load code on the frame where it is needed.
I have a file where I am importing dynamic text with buttons and a scrollbar. Everything pulls in and is working fine except... I have one document where the dynamic text that is pulled in is short and really doesn't need to scroll. It appears fine but say you click one of the buttons or scrollbar by accident or curiosity. The movie just starts vibrating... it doesn't like thst the text is short. I don't want to take the stuff out because the info will always change and some days it may need buttons soma days not.

I need to create a scrollable list of buttons. Only vertical scrolling is enough. The main thing is that, the buttons and scroll bar should be custom drawn. One and two dimension of button layout support is needed.
my problem is that if you go over the menu text above my scroller it controls the scroller. I wan this areas movement to have no effect on the scroller below. is there a way to script my scroller to set it to this?
I would like to use it as a horizontal scroller for an image gallery. Just to clarify a horizontal dragger and a horizontal stage motion for image viewing.

I can find tons of articles/tutorials on custom scrollers but none of them actually replace the browser scroller. If the browser is made smaller the custom scroller and the browser scroller are there. [URL]...

I've been trying to make a scroller, but the movieclip IS the scroller (if that makes sense?)So I have a movieclip that's, say, 1920 wide, and the stage just resizes to the browser, and when you drag the movieclip it scrolls. I have this semi-working but it's quite buggy on resize, and i also want inertia on the movieclip when it moves.
I'm editing a scoller and have removed a photo from it however as the scroller scrolls a gap slowly appears where the original photo was. I can't seem to stop this happening?
In flex 4 I'm using a PopUpButton with a Menu populated with records from the database.For one of our clients, the data provider of the Menu has more than 50 elements.When they click on the Menu it expands beyond the height of the screen without showing a scroller or responding to the mouse-wheel.So in effect there is no way to access the lower items on the menu.So I need to somehow restrict the height of the menu and add a scroller.The rowCount and maxHeight commands are having no effect.

I'm working on a small project and I'd like the player to be able to explore areas outside of just the 800x600 window, AKA scrolling is necessary.
I'm not working in the Flash IDE, I'm just writing actionscript in FlashDevelop.
Anyway, I'm trying to think of a clean way to scroll the map and all associated objects when the player gets near the edge of the screen.
Here's how my app is currently set up:
I've got my Main object, which is the parent app.
Under that, I have a 'DudeHandler' object, which will contain all the players. At the moment it just contains the player, and another test guy in order to see the effects of scrolling.
Then I have the 'Soldier' object, which is an individual player.
In a perfect world, when the player got near the edge of the screen, I'd just move the DudeHandler object, but I guess my main problem is trying to find out the actual screen coordinates of the player, since the x and y vars point to the position relative within the Dudehandler object, if that makes any sense.
