ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading External Swfs With Their Own Navigation

Oct 31, 2009

I am trying to teach myself Flash and AS3 using the two Adobe Classroom in a Book Series so I am not sure if I am framing my question correctly. I have found lots of information regarding loading and unloading, but not about establishing communication between parent and child.I have a home page with four buttons that have nice Mouse Over effects. When I click on them, they load the external swfs nicely. When I click on the external swf, it also unloads just the way I want it to.[code]Inside the external swf, I have two back and forward buttons (it is a slide show type of thing), that are not accessible when I click on them because if I do, I just unload the content from myLoader. If I remove the unloadcontent function from my main home page FLA, the swf's buttons work great, but I can't remove the external swf. I have also experimented with having a close button appear on frame 2 of my home page's main timeline, and tried adding code for it to unload the swf, to no avail.It seems to me that I can't be the only one who has this problem. Lesson 9 of the Adobe Classroom in a Book definitely implies that this can be done, but doesn't have instruction on how to do it. Can anyone help me or point me in the direction of a good tutorial on communication between swfs?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Navigation System That Would Load External SWFs - Error #1034: Type Coercion Failed: Cannot Convert Flash?

Aug 13, 2009

I found a tutorial that showed how to create a navigation system that would load external SWFs. I am trying to create an image gallery in essentially the same manner but instead of loading SWFs, I want to load external bitmap images.However, when I replace the SWFs with images, I keep getting an error message:

Code:
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.display::Bitmap@3e91d2e1 to flash.display.MovieClip.at image_Loader_fla::menu_1/isLoaded()

So obviously, it is trying to convert the bitmaps to movieclips. Due to my newbiness with AS3, I'm not really sure what I need to do with my existing code to fix this issue.I've provided a sample of the gallery if anyone wouldn't mind taking a look.

P.S. In the sample I provided, you will notice that on mouse-over, an external will load. The only one that won't work is the first one (Home) as it is trying to load an external PNG.

[URL]regarding this tutorial I started my site [URL] to get some trasition effects but im getting somewhat different since the external SWFs take time to load. isn't it better to create "intro and outro" on the same time line instead of loading external SWFs bcos once the movie loaded as a whole will lead to smooth and contineous transitions.

IDE :: Transitions Between External SWFs / Close Button For External Swfs

Aug 15, 2005

I recently created a site using the "Transitions between External SWFs" tutorial for Flash MX 2004. I use this to load the sections of my site into the main movie file. Each section is an External SWF file. When a viewer clicks on a navigation button, the specific external swf move will load and play. Currently, a viewer would need to click on another navigation option to close the current external swf file. I would like to add a close button to each of the external swfs so that a view has the option to close the window without clicking on a naviagtion link.

Navigation With Keys And Loading SWFs?

Dec 2, 2009

I have been working on a project which has been giving me headaches. I want to be able to navigate through a presentation using the arrow keys - To do everything on the one timeline was going to be too complicated and messy so tried to create separate files but could not get the separate files loading -.My next problem is incorporating the two approaches - here is my code from my test files with my attempt added:

stop();
// create an array to hold the names of the frame labels
var labels:Array = new Array();
// take the name of each label in a MovieClip and put each

[code]....

I can either get the arrow key navigation to work or the previous movie to load but the left arrow key then doesn't navigate back. Although in saying this version doesn't work and I can't get it load again.

ActionScript 3.0 :: External Swfs Load - Remove The Swfs And Sound After A New Button Is Clicked

Nov 13, 2010

I am loading eight external swfs by way of eight buttons with actionscript to remove the swfs and sound after a new button is clicked. This works fine except that as soon as you get to the frame where the actionscript is all the swfs load at one time on top of each other. I don't want any to load until the button is clicked for the right one. MouseEvent listener works but only after all the swfs have loaded. How do I get the swfs to load only when the buttons are clicked. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

ActionScript 1/2 :: Load Random Swfs From Array & Navigation?

Apr 4, 2010

I don't think I'm as familiar with arrays as I need to be to complete the following project - I've read about 60 posts and no one seems to be doing exactly what I am. Here's what I need to do: From a main swf (home.swf), I need to load 7 consecutive swfs in random order, (movie01.swf, movie02.swf, etc) from an array, into level 1. I need all seven to play without repeating, then repeat them in the same order in a loop.

But I ALSO need the user to be able to navigate through the swfs by using next or previous buttons (or by selecting individually 1-7, but that may be asking too much from my limited knowledge).Here is the code I'm using to generate a random ordered array:

var fileNames :Array=new Array("movie01.swf","movie02.swf","movie03.swf");shuffle = function (targetArray) {for (i=0; i<targetArray.length; i++) {var tmp = targetArray[i];var randomNum = random(targetArray.length);targetArray[i] = targetArray[randomNum];targetArray[randomNum] = tmp;}};shuffle(fileNames )trace(fileNames )

I assume from here I can load the swfs from fileNames [0]. I'm way out of my depth so the rest is a mystery to me.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamic Navigation Class - Skinning Using Swfs?

I'm currently putting together a navigation that will be XML driven. The broad outline of what I'm trying to do is:XML > Custom XML parser class > Native Actionscript representation > Abstract Navigation Class > Concrete Navigation Class.The concrete Navigation class would have setter methods to allow you to skin it's appearance using display objects.

Code:
setButtonUpState(upState:DisplayObject)
This is fine if the Display object is purely Class based and draws itself programatically,

ActionScript 2.0 :: Flash 8 - Finalizing Navigation (SWFs Included)

Aug 2, 2006

I have two remaining tasks on this file, in order to be done.

1. When I mouse over the main top nav, I need the boxes to have some easement added to them so that they don't just shooot straight up. I also need them to stay up when clicked until I select another button. They kind of do this now, but they tend to get stuck in the up position until I mouse over the other buttons again.

2. This file loads a remote, XML based, gallery that looks very much like the one offered in this sites tutorials. Since the tutorial already has the variable i, which keeps track of how many total objects are being viewed on this application, is there any way to have that also include i number of boxes between my previous and next buttons which can also act as navigation for the gallery?

Here are the swf's:
Main nav with fun boxes: SWF_porfolio.fla
XML Gallery Nav wanting fun boxes: SWF_identitiy.fla
and for fun
Identity XML file: images.xml

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading External SWFs From Another External Swf Into The Main SWF Container?

May 4, 2011

I have created a main "site.swf" file that loads a "default.swf" file into a container after a preloader. On this default.swf file I have buttons that needs to load new external SWF files in its place in the container. All of the external SWFs contain buttons and navigations that will also call up other external SWFs into this container. So, I would like to know how to program each button (some are movieclips as buttons) to unload itself and load the respective SWF into the container (eg. AboutUsButton to call up aboutus.swf into the container). I do not have a main navigation on the site.swf file bacause the navigation changes on each SWF that needs to be loaded into the container.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Secondary Navigation Using External SWF Files

Dec 20, 2010

Everything was going fine on a website project I've been working on, until yesterday. I'll try to explain the whole scenario first, and I'll put the code in here too so anyone can try to figure out what is wrong. Here's the breakdown of the site:

1) There is a MAIN SWF file that plays an intro and then stops on the last frame with the "Main" Navigation buttons.

2) Inside the Root folder where the MAIN SWF resides, there is another folder called "swfs" which contains six main external navigation pages, as well as another folder called "galleries" which contains additional external swf files for six gallery pages.

3) On one of the layers of the MAIN SWF, there is a movie clip called "mySWFLoadingClip" that the "Main" Navigation buttons load and unload the main swf pages onto. These all work perfectly. The problem start on the next step. This is the code I used for the navigation buttons on the MAIN SWF timeline:

var Xpos:Number = 0.0;
var Ypos:Number = 0.0;
var swf:MovieClip;
var loader:Loader = new Loader();
var defaultSWF:URLRequest = new URLRequest("swfs/home_page_swf.swf");
[Code] .....

4) One of the external navigation SWF pages is called "portfolio_page_swf" and gets loaded into the "mySWFLoadingClip" moveclip on the MAIN SWF. This is where the problem begins. The "portfolio_page_swf" has six buttons that call out to an additional external swf from the galleries folder. Now when I open the "portfolio_page_swf" file to test out if the buttons work, they work perfect. When I click the buttons, the external swf gallery files show up like they should. But the problem is that when I open the "MAIN SWF" file to test out the site, I can click the Main Navigation buttons and they work. I click on the Portfolio button on the Main SWF time line, and it places the "portfolio_page_swf" onto the stage like it should, but when I click the buttons that are within the "portfolio_page_swf" the galleries don't show up. The buttons from the "portfolio_page_swf" page only work if I open the "portfolio_page_swf" file directly.

Here is the code that is used in the "portfolio_page_swf":
var Xpos:Number= 0.0;
var Ypos:Number = 0.0;
var swf:MovieClip;
var loader:Loader = new Loader();
var defaultSWF:URLRequest = new URLRequest("galleries/gallery_print_swf.swf");
[Code] .....

How to load an External SWF onto the main time line and then load an additional external swf from within the first external swf.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading Main Navigation In External SWF Through Container Movie

Dec 30, 2008

I have attached two pictures. Basically I am making a website. The main navigation loads in external swf's through a container movie. For this I have used this tutorial : [URL]. What I want to do is- when you rollover the navigation bar, be it the text or the coloured block- I want it to scroll down and reveal the 'sub navigation'. (pic2) It's like a drop down menu but kind of the other way around. Then, when you either rolloff of the navigation bar or click on a menu button, it slides back up to its original state. (Pic1). I have played around and only managed a sloppy version which doesn't work very well, especially when you resize. I think a simple answer to this is if I could get my buttons to work inside a movie clip. I had tried this but then the swfs wouldn't load properly.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Main .swf With Buttons On A Navigation Menu That Loads External .swf(s)?

I am using a main .swf with buttons on a navigation menu that loads external .swf(s) - these load external videos (I use them as their backgrounds).In the main .FLA I have used the following code (in the first and unique frame):

CODE

var Xpos:Number = 110;
var Ypos:Number = 180;
var swf:MovieClip;
var loader:Loader = new Loader();
var defaultSWF:URLRequest = new URLRequest("swfs/eyesClosed.swf");[code].....

I can make each button on the menu load each external .swf correctly with videos included - but when I leave that .swf using the navigation buttons to go to another section, the video and audio keep working in the background.
