I searched around and wasn't able to find a solution to a problem I'm having. I have a scroll area and if you scroll and the text lands half on half off the scroll area, when you move it again it cuts off the text or warps it a little bit. Does anybody know what's causing this?

I just recently purchased this template: [URL] and I'm having difficulty with the scrolling text areas. The finished .swf file has different scroll areas for each of the pages, just like the online preview, but when I go into flash to try and edit them, I can only find the "Little About Us" scrollarea from the "About" page. There is a layer in the flash file called "page," the content of which changes on mouseclick, but that same "Little About Us" scrollarea stays constant in that layer, only moving location. I can't even find any of the other scrollareas in the Library. New to Flash, as I said, but even so this seems odd to me (aside from the fact that I need to edit those text areas).
View 7 RepliesBasically, my whole website's going to be in Flash, but I want to be able to update one page (sort of a news/blog page) without having to edit the Flash file every time. I'm assuming the easiest way to do this would be to set up either a scroll pane or a text box and pull the text in from a .txt file. That way I could continue to add on to the .txt file, and Flash would always pull in the current version. So, my issues are:
1. I have no idea where to start with the code for something like that. Is it a LoadVar? Do I physically put a scroll pane or a text area in the frame and put the action on that, or do I put the action on the frame and have it call up a text area component?
2. Will the text scroll automatically, or is that something else I would have to add in? I plan on adding to this text file for awhile, so it could end up being a lot of text over time.
3. Would I be able to format the text in the .txt at all? For instance, if I hit enter to put in a paragraph break, would that register once it's pulled into Flash, or would I have to put in an html paragraph break or something? That may be a dumb question, but as I said, I'm not exactly fluent in ActionScript (or any other programming language for that matter).
I am trying, this time, to create a scroll area text. Where after pressing a button, a text will be added to the textarea below the previous text. Although, dont know why, its not working.
i am using this code to add the text to the textarea and then trying to scroll down and add more text bellow the previous one. where m_text is the name of my text area.

I'm having trouble figuring out how I should go about making an auto scroll functionality for a text area in Flex.
What I have is a text area that loads text from an XML file at startup, and displays it in a text area. There is also an audio track that is plays along with the text. As the words from the audio file is read out, the corresponding word in the text area is highlighted red. What I want to happen is that if the highlighted word is below the visible range of the text area I want to scroll the scroll bar to adjust accordingly to the selection.
I've got a scrolling thumbnail bar that I want to activate only when the cursor is above the thumbnail bar. At the moment it will also scroll if the cursor's away from the thumnails.How could I do this? I've tried using on rollOver but it's not continuous. The code at the moment is

I would like to first add the xml to my flash. Fine I can do this.But I have a number of buttons, where when I click say CW1, i get the information from the XML file with a node of CW1. I have all the xml set up fine.As I have about eight different postcode types.
ST, CW, CH, TF, WV, WS, DE, SK, SY, and each of these may have numbers that follow, i.e ST1, ST2, ST3 and so forth.
So I can only assume that the postal area could be the main nodes, and the numbers inside the child nodes, am I right thus far.o how can i load the area of the xml file into my text area on mouse click, pulling the information relating.
I just want to do not allow editing at some area of text area in flex. I have some movie clips turned buttons (by way of mc.buttonMode = true and friends) that scroll by an invisible button area, and when they are 'under' that area, none of their mouse events work. How can I still catch their mouse events in addition to the MOUSE_OVER of the invisible button on top?

I've gotten to chapter 5 in my AS 3.0 classroom book but I need to use wisdom today (CHAPTERS before I gain it for myself),I need to create a custom scroll bar with buttons that function just like the UIScrollBar but more visually suited to our projects. the boss demands it.
I found several tutorials on creating the custom scrollBar, however, they don't include the buttons and I'm unable to find a tutorial on how to create a button scroller (I figured I could link them both to my "info_txt" after creating them separately).

Currently, I have up and down arrows to scroll the text, but I would like to have an actual scrollbar instead since there is a lot of text in some of the sections. I have text that is in a scrollable box using the scroll bar component and I would like to be able to format headlines differently than the main body copy, etc. How do I do this? The text is dynamic, multiple line.Was hoping not to have to use external files.
