What is an expected way to create audio chatrooms? Either try to mix all published audio streams into single one and republish it under common name? Or just inform all clients about each other and allow each one to connect to a stream, published by each other?
Do I need to write custom webapplication with my own scripts in it, or this is some default functionality?

View 2 RepliesLooking for a component which can be embedded inside my site (PHP, ASP.NET...whatever) and give a support for video chat. I'm not a flex developer and would like to use a component. There are some/many video chats available, like flashcoms, red5chat...but all of those are heavy(monolit) components.
What I would like to have on my site is just a small video showing output from my camera (me) and another video showing the other party...but those videos should be split, not in the same flash component, but separate (two different EMBED tags on my page).
Are there any components available to do that (of course with support from appropriate media server)? Are there any good guides on how to develop such a component?
I was searching around the internet for a way to talk to others without installing software like Skype. I found a site called DED Messenger which allows you, using flash, to talk with each other. Could someone here at Kirupa write a tutorial, following on from the earlier Microphone one to allow other people to hear what you say?

View 1 RepliesWe are building a live RTMFP voice chat application with Cumulus. While the basic voice transfer works pretty easy using NetStreams, we have one big problem:There does not seem to be a way to manipulate the microphone data that the NetStream sends, and also not a way to manipulate the data the listening NetStream receives before it is played.However, this is exactly what we need. We do not want to transfer the normal microphone recorded audio, but first pitch it, then send it, then play it. Or first send it, then pitch it, then play it. But it seems that the whole audio recording, speex encoding, speex decoding and audio playback is completely encapsuled within the NetStream class.The only ways to achieve what we want (and all of them removing NetStream completely) seem to be:Send raw pitched audio data. That does work, but is of course a lot of data to send and will likely not work fast enough outside of our local LAN testing.
Pitch audio data, convert to ogg/mp3 using existing encoders for flash, send, decode ogg/mp3 and play. But this would mean encoding each and every sample packet that is received from the microphone, adding header stuff, etc. So this would likely not even yield that much of a benefit compared to raw audio data.2.1. This would actually be a good way if there was a Speex encoder/decoder for flash. But ironically, there is none other than the built in one (which is used for encoding/decoding audio in NetStreams) that cannot be explicitly used. ot offering it, Adobe...Send the data to the Cumulus server, pitch (and probably convert) there and send to the recipient. This would likely not even be that much faster than 1. and also throw away the exact benefit of RTMFP, P2P communication.
I want to create a chat application in AIR but i dont know that how a chatting server can be created in Flash.

Hence i thought i would use the list component and disable the selection in it. I m able to add the chat messages into the list. But i doubt if large chat data might hinder the performance. Inside this room you should be nearly independent from the lobby and have your own SharedObject etc. I am searching for a good Idea to deal with that. Google wasn't very helpful for me in that point. I am in the midst of coding a multiplayer card game. Right now, to make things simple, I limit myself to code for 3 players for one room. The clients call functions in the server and vice versa. Functions such as player's turn, shuffling cards, etc. So what happens if there's more than 1 room? Won't the data from the different rooms get mixed up with one another in the server side, since everything will be happening in just 1 server and on the same function? I am abit confuse on this part. Can someone enlighten me on how different rooms work in a multiplayer game? How do I make sure the data don't get messed up?
