I have a project where I need to use XML to dynamically load PNG and GIF files not just JPEGs. I have found forums and information from 2004 of users complaining about the capability not being available but since then we now have Flash 8.

Im new to placing external data into Flash. I just got CS3 and Im trying to use Flash to dynamically load XML data via a FlashVars call in the HTML.
The problem is I have followed the very straight forward AS2 Help files for using FlashVars and URL variables.I have placed the code directly from the Help file into the Html between
<noscript> <noscript>and i keep getting undefined.I have tried saving the file as flash 8 and i am publish flash 8.
I am developing a VB.NET Windows application that plays SWF and FLV files in popup windows.
The user presses a button on the main application form, a window pops up, and the Flash media will then play (in theory).
I was successful in getting SWF files to play. First, I added the Shockwave Flash Object AciveX control to my toolbox (VB.NET named it AxShockwaveFlash1), and then double clicked it to add it to my popup form. Then, in the startup routine for my popup, I added the following lines to play my SWF:
AxShockwaveFlash1.Movie = "path/filename.swf"
AxShockwaveFlash1.Play()
I attempted exactly the same approach using a separate form for an FLV file, this time of course setting the Movie property of the Shockwave Flash Object to "path/filename.flv". In this case, the FLV file did not play. There were no error messages, but just a popup screen with nothing on it.
Im making a three related VB program and i want to integrate them into one package, for the easier access and navigation on those program, I make a flash file which serves as interface or menu for the navigation. My problem is how to call or run on those program in just one click of a flash button, i want to run the exe program not the installer. I mean if I install the program that I made in the VB on my PC, there must a menu to choose on the three program. I try to use the geturl and it works but there is prompt(popup message for to choose run and save. I want if i click the button, it will go directly on the application.

My company has a database-driven system of web forms, each ofwhich consists of many questions in various layouts (2-columnradio, 1 column checkbox, etc). The forms are never hard-coded.Each HTTP request causes Java code to perform DB queries todynamically generate the various questions and answers.Thosequestions are then rendered through JSP and Struts tiles into HTML.The HTML also contains JavaScript functions to hide/showconditional questions on the web page based on answers to earlierquestions. Now we're trying to figure out the best way to adapt thissystem to use a Flash front-end instead of HTML/JavaScript.My preliminary research suggests at least two possibleapproaches:
1. A pre-compiled SWF could send a request with certainparameters, and the server could respond with an XML description ofthe form to build. Then the SWF could parse that XML andynamically generate the form using attachMovie for each formelement (with a lot of math to determine relative positions ofelements with variable sizes, like text labels). 2. Flex might reduce the code for placing elements, by usingMXML to describe the form structure as well as visual arrangement.I haven't used this yet, and I'm wary of Flex 2 simply because itrequires Flash Player 9 which is only at 50% browser penetration
I have a swf which it receives it's content from xml files. It displayes jpg's and mp3's by getting their paths from xmls. (also I must note that these jpegs and mp3s are uploaded from an asp.net form)
My problem is some jpgs are not being displayed & some mp3s are not played at macintoshs. I've tested with almost all mac browsers and flash plug-ins. It's all same. While some files are being displayed some do not. I see blank the area where the jpgs should be shown.
I started to develop my first flash web site. I use to import pictures into the stage, so far I only use
jpegs. I am wondering, after I will have finished my fla and export to swf, will these source picture still be useful when I will upload the site to my ftp? Or will they be part of the swf?
Is it possible to make such a thing: When Button_btn is clicked (onRelease), var( var Name:String = new String("Flash MX|) ) is send to file (File.txt) and saved there.
View 1 Repliesi'm remodeling a website i've done ([URL]). i want to exchange information between XML and Flash files. i almost did it, but where shoul display information about one item, the whole content of this 'field' is shown. i'll explain better. this swf displays works of an artist. but the field 'date' (or any other text field) display the content of all works (separated by commas). i'll post the xml code and the actionscript code.

The picture is saved as his/her username, and if they upload a different picture, the old one is still displayed unless they leave the site and come back 10+ minutes later.I tried the HTML no-cahce headers and they don't even help load a new (up-to-date) version of the main movie.This should have an easy solution, that Adobe should have

I am attempting to get data from an xml file load in flash. I followed a tutorial in a new fla and it seemed to work fine, I then tried to adapt it to my own needs which worked fine. But then when trying to implement this into my news section it doesn't seem to work. I am trying to make a news section, that displays the date and news article. This is in within a movie clip, I even tried putting it in the timeline of the scene but still nothing.
- I have 2 dynamic text boxes, date_txt and news_txt
- The xml file is named news.xml,
- both the fla and the xml are in the same folder

Creating a non-interactive status display: I want to have theflash display reflect data in a server-based XML-file. So far thisis easy. But I want the display to change everytime the XML filechanges-- in order to reflect status changes. I've used anXMLConnector and specified it and the trigger in the first frame.The Flash code catches and shows the XML values initially . Butwhen I edit the XML file, the new values are never picked up byFlash- its almost as though the values are cached. How do I getFlash to regularly be updated from a changing XML file? I've alsotried putting the trigger in a loop- but that doesn't workeither.

My player uses the FLVPlayback component.My actionscript makes a call like this to the PHP script:[code]When tested, the FLVPlayback component simply won't accept the FLV served up to it in this way. It WILL work if loading directly from the file system, so I know my actionscript works. I can load just about any other type of file into Flash this way,including JPG and SWF. FLV is the only format that doesn't work.I've added the video/x-flv MIME Type to all test servers I've tried this on, so the server should recognize the file.

what is the best method for loading external XML (with inherent HTML) content into Flash and into the TextArea component?i have an image loader and a TextArea together on the screen. a "story" is loaded which will present a series of images (in the image loading) associated with a corresponding text (in the TextArea). a "story" has multiple image/text sections that are navigatied through with FRWD/BACK buttons. any given section can also have multiple sub-sections or "frames".

below is my proposed sample XML structure. i want Flash to recognize how many sections and frames within sections there are in each story XML document - in order to generate a corresponding navigation structure (a tab for each section). HTML content will be immediate availble to loadinto TextArea as user move forward in sequence with nav. and images references can also be preloaded into available MC containers to be swapped into place as user navigates forward in sequence. also need to read and store attributes for each node in the XML to come up in MCs in sequence. and must also be able to parse XML in a way to place simple HTML formatted content (within XML) into the TextArea.would Arrays be used?

This is all fine.Now I have one instance of the FLVPlayback on the stage with flash .I am trying to load the url for the FLV file into the movie, via ASP, MsSQL and a url parameter. What I am trying to accomplish is to have a link on a page with a url that will open a popup window. In this window I will have the Flash file that will load the FLV based on the URL, and play it.
View 1 RepliesI used a sample of macromedia to get a XML file with the names to the swf files i want to import in the stage. That works (for now). But now i also want to at a link (using getURL();) to the movieclip where the swf file is placed.
PS. i used gallery_tween.fla from the sample folder if someone wants to know...
The flash movie in my server (www.mydomain.com) is trying to access data from a different domain (www.otherdomain.com). I've placed the crossdomain.xml in the webroot of the otherdomain. I am getting flash error on accessing the data from otherdomain. When I tracked the HTTP request sent, it shows only one request with URL: https:[url]....
INET_E_SECURITY_PROBLEM.Its clear from this result that IE is not able to load crossdomain.xml file from otherdomain.The same application works in Mozilla Firefox and failing in IE6.
In my Flash application, the SWF file is located on a serverand is downloaded to clients in a controlled network. I want to beable to load XML data located on the client machines into the SWFfile. It looks like security settings is not allowing thi tohappen, as the local files are treated as a separate sandbox.If I were to use System.security.allowDomain, how do Ipecify local files? It's not a domain or URL. Or is there another way to do this? I'm wading through thesecurity information, but I haven't found the solution yet.
