Aug 22, 2006I am seeing repeated comments on this discussion forum that it's not possible to save data from Flash into a locally stored XML file . . . but there must be a way to do this. Why is you can read data from a locally stored XML file but not update or add data to it. how absurd a design would that be, it simply wouldn't be logical!

Aug 20, 2011I'd like to know if there's a way to take data entered into a field in flash, save it, and call it later via an object.I don't want anyone to walk me through it if there is, that's not what I'm asking. I'm just asking what I need to know in order to do this. I'd like to build a certain flash app that takes information (such as a name, paragraph, and/or sentence) saves it, and can then be recalled when a user clicks a button... even if the user has closed out the application.I'm still relatively new to flash, I know enough to get by on basic projects, but I want to expand my knowledge so I don't end up stuck in a beginners rut.Would this require using PHP and Flash? Or can it be done entirely in flash via exporting data to a designated external file?

May 22, 2007I'm sorry this is a question from a server ignoramus, I've previously captured user input using a combination of cfml and text files. That was way back in 2002 and using AS 1.0. I'm now working in an environment where the server guy won't put any scripts on, and I mean none, no PHP, no ASP, no CFML, nothing. Would anyone know if there is a way of capturing user input without using a script, please? This prolly shows a really basic lack of understanding of how servers work but I'm a bit desperate. I know the Flash Learning Interactions can work with SCORM and pop results into LMSs that use SCORM and our LMS does use SCORM, but it seems to only be within the learning interactions and I don't know where to start to tailor this for the input I need to capture.

Jan 21, 2007I am working on the contact form for a website that is done entirely in flash. The following is the code I have for sending the variables to the emailForm.php script that I created. The only problem I'm having is that everytime you send the contact information, a new web browser window opens up (it opens the php file in the web browser). I'm testing this on my local server and it works great, except for the fact that everytime I send it, I dont want a new browser window opening up.

May 13, 2007I am developing a VB.NET Windows application that plays SWF and FLV files in popup windows.
The user presses a button on the main application form, a window pops up, and the Flash media will then play (in theory).
I was successful in getting SWF files to play. First, I added the Shockwave Flash Object AciveX control to my toolbox (VB.NET named it AxShockwaveFlash1), and then double clicked it to add it to my popup form. Then, in the startup routine for my popup, I added the following lines to play my SWF:
AxShockwaveFlash1.Movie = "path/filename.swf"
AxShockwaveFlash1.Play()
I attempted exactly the same approach using a separate form for an FLV file, this time of course setting the Movie property of the Shockwave Flash Object to "path/filename.flv". In this case, the FLV file did not play. There were no error messages, but just a popup screen with nothing on it.

Mar 30, 2007Im making a three related VB program and i want to integrate them into one package, for the easier access and navigation on those program, I make a flash file which serves as interface or menu for the navigation. My problem is how to call or run on those program in just one click of a flash button, i want to run the exe program not the installer. I mean if I install the program that I made in the VB on my PC, there must a menu to choose on the three program. I try to use the geturl and it works but there is prompt(popup message for to choose run and save. I want if i click the button, it will go directly on the application.

Aug 30, 2006I have a swf which it receives it's content from xml files. It displayes jpg's and mp3's by getting their paths from xmls. (also I must note that these jpegs and mp3s are uploaded from an asp.net form)
My problem is some jpgs are not being displayed & some mp3s are not played at macintoshs. I've tested with almost all mac browsers and flash plug-ins. It's all same. While some files are being displayed some do not. I see blank the area where the jpgs should be shown.

When a selection is chosen in the combobox I need to add the value returned from the combobox to the variable catvar, add this variable to the LoadVars object and run the script again. It seems to set c.catvar initially but when I use the 'sendAndLoad command the second time c.catvar isn't included. Is it possible to add variables to a LoadVars object created
on frame 1 from frame 61?

Data Integration :: Send Variables Stored In A Ms Sql Db To A Flash
Jul 18, 2008Im having a bit of trouble integrating dynamic variables pulled from a databse using an ASP script with a flash movie.
Background:
I need to send variables stored in a ms sql db to a flash movie to display several values.
The dyanmic element comes in because i am using an ID to select the values from the db e.g id1 = joe bloggs id2 = paul smith
etc
When i am hardcoding the id in the asp script the variables are sent to the flash movie no probs and they display correctly.
I am also printing the asp code on the page and that all displaying fine.
HOWEVER, the issue arises when i make the asp code dynamic and by that i mean I am using request.querystring to pull the id
from the URL - The print out of the asp code is still displaying the correct variables, BUT they are not being passed to the
flash movie at all - the placeholder is blank there isn't event an error!!.
Couple of things to note -
- if you change the id bit of the url in the dynamic script to the printed asp code changes
- THE FLASH MOVIE IS IDENTIAL in both scenarios
- all variable names have remained the same
- it is NOT a location of file issue as we have tested the dynamic code files In another folder and no joy
- we are not using any other file includes or asp code in any of the page - all other code has been stripped out
THE ISSUE WE HAVE IS THAT THE PRINTED VARIABLES ARE NOT BEING PASSED TO THE FLASH MOBIE in scenario 2 where the asp code is looking for the participant id dynamically (i.e from the URL)

when i trace the output it shows that the variables have been retrived successfully.
now i need to use the values by assingning then to a variable. i cant seem to get this going
i am using flash 8 with as2.

Jan 17, 2008i'm remodeling a website i've done ([URL]). i want to exchange information between XML and Flash files. i almost did it, but where shoul display information about one item, the whole content of this 'field' is shown. i'll explain better. this swf displays works of an artist. but the field 'date' (or any other text field) display the content of all works (separated by commas). i'll post the xml code and the actionscript code.
