I want Montana data to appear when I click the state of Montana (and so on throughout the 50 states). Montana is the instance name of my simple button on the state of Montana.
Something's not quite right about this line of code:
if (pEvent.target == myXML.statename ) { ...then do something ...}
The code works fine if I say if (pEvent.target == Montana)
Do I have to convert the myXML node value to text orsomething?
I have No problems inserting data from flash to PHP into MySQL,it's sendind them back properlly.All I'd like to see happen is for one row of data to be inserted into a dynamic text field. here's what i've got if i access this php file, it prints out a vertical list from a single MySQL row,I was happy.
$query = "select row from table"; $result = mysql_query($query, $db);
while($row = mysql_fetch_row($result))[code]...
and Instead of the vertical list (which i would love to see)i get an unparsed data array.
I'm creating a small app to run from CD-Rom/local installation that will use multiple shared objects for data storage. To ensure proper saving without surprising the user with a permissions dialog unexpectedly, I'd like to request unlimited data storage on first time app launch - Joey Lott shows how to do this in the Actionscript Cookbook... request=mySO.flush(1024 * 500);
My question is,Can I perform this permissions request with the user a single time with a generic app SO in global fashion, so that the permissions would be set for any SOs created during the use of the product (all written to same SO directory),or do I have to request permissions for each and every SO created? Since the latter would be unacceptable from a UE standpoint, that means stuffing all app data into a single SO which doesn't seem so great from a data config perspective...
Let's say you have the following xml document. Now how do I access the name thumb here is my loop. Also I want to store the value in an array but I don't want the xml tags to be stored in there as well. How do I get rid of the xml tags with assigning the data to an array.
I am making a site in php, however the menu in header is made in flash.Until now working, taking variables from php, but now is the site of two languages and having to take an array of php (texts in the menu (flash) must be read from the php file). My question is how to make Flash (action script 2) to read this array in php.
I have a flash banner rotator that runs using PHP at the backend. The way in which the flash banner is called into the script is by using the following PHP:
I have successfully loaded an external XML data file into mymovie. Now I would like to save the node values into an array so ican manipulate and call as required...Is this possible or is there
I am trying to learn xml in flash myself and am findingit v.hard.All i am trying to do is create a little 'story' with 3 pages.I have content loading into flash but I am unable to get the next 'sibling' into an array e.g. the title. I can only get page1's title in the array but I can never get to page 2.Here is my xml:
<maincontent> <page1> <title>Who is he</title>[code].....
This only traces the first title, how can i get to the second and the third so i can then display them in my text box?
I would like to be able to dynamically populate a dynamictext field (assuming that's the best component to use) with anarray of data from PHP.I have attached my PHP code and my Flash Code.The PHP code is working fine and generating the array.The first part of the AS code is working as I can see thepop-up window with the PHP array in it. However, I can't figure outhow to get the array to display in the dynamic text box.I have created a dynamic text box in flash with nothing inthe 'instance name' box and 'events' in the var box.
I have an application that reads a PHP script and populates the Flash applets using the following on frame 1:

A combobox (created with the returned data) is created on frame 61. When a selection is chosen in the combobox I need to add the value returned from the combobox to the variable catvar, add this variable to the LoadVars object and run the script again. It seems to set c.catvar initially but when I use the 'sendAndLoad command the second time c.catvar isn't included. Is it possible to add variables to a LoadVars object created on frame 1 from frame 61?
I have a transparent video playing on my front page, with a small semi-transparent controller. After the movie plays and fades out, the controller remains. How can I remove the controller display after the movie finishes playing?
I am having a hell of a time getting around the new IE flash/embeded content protocols. I have tried using various formats, like using <noscript> tags outside of the <object> tags. All that results in is the entire flash content disappearing. I've tired using this external JavaScript file:
I have a video player that is currently using XML for its video library which is all fine and dandy. Now I have some developers working on a CMS type page in PHP that is going to hopefully pass some sort of information to my player that will let it know where the video is stored on our server. Is there a way to do this without using FMS? If so does anyone have ideas where I can find the information for it.
I'm trying to figure out how to use AS to access frames of a movie clip within a button symbol (using Flash MX 2004), and I seem to be stuck. I drafted a small test version of the FLA I'm working on, and it is attached to this message.
Specifically, my intention is to have a two-state button that goes into "selected mode" after the first mouse click, and then goes back to normal after a 2nd click. I can already handle the functional aspect of this using a global boolean like the one in the attached file. The problem is that I want to represent the current status of the button with a visual change; in the attached example FLA, the intention was to change the color of the text label on this button from grey to red when the button is in its "selected" state.
In this forum I found a similar question where someone had provided a "menu.fla" that had a row of buttons that acted more or less like a radio set, which is somewhat similar to my need. I've been trying to use the same sort of method, having converted the "up" state of the button text into a movie clip symbol with two frames (one for each state), and then trying to use AS to do a "gotoAndStop()" on the desired frame of the up label animation. The problem is that I cannot figure out how to actually make this work ... no matter what sort of path I try to use to get to the movie clip animation within the button, I cannot seem to set the text animation to jump to the "selected" frame (2).
I think my problem is that I've been unable to glean any understanding from the Flash MX docs about the differences between an object name and a symbol name and an identifier and an instance name and a blah blah blah, or about which of them (if any) actually is an ID that can be accessed via ActionScript. Also, MX 2004 seems to provide almost no compile-time error checking on the validity of a target path either, so I've been reduced to just throwing every combination at it that I can think of. None have worked, so I'm at a loss.
If anyone can explain to me why the attached FLA doesn't cause the text to stay red after a mouse click, no matter which of the commented out lines I try, it would undoubtedly be a big help to me.
(Please note that the button in this FLA uses a basic flashing animation for mouseovers ... it was just something quick to implement to emulate the mouseover animation in my full file, so please don't be distracted by it. Also note that I haven't tried to implement any code to return the button to a non-selected status yet. One thing at a time.)
RESOLVED: It was apparently the nesting of a movieclip inside of a button that prevented the original target path from working (and one of the tutorials at this website seems to support that). Once I knew what the proper path syntax was and didn't have to worry about that part anymore, eventually the rest fell into place pretty easily once I started using a movieclip for the button rather than an actual button.

I'd like to create one empty Flash movie that is essentially a placeholder for externally loaded content I can change through XML. This content would just be able to randomly load 1 of 3 photos, with a button linking to a website within each of the photos on page load. If the user refreshes the page, a new photo with it's link would appear, but I understand since it's random,having 3 images the same image is likely to reappear, but I can always add additional photos and links.
Does anyone know of a tutorial that might lead me on the correct path to create this? I've found some tuts, but they've been different than my need.
We want to be able to upload over 100+ files (if needed) to a server along with desc + keywords. I see that Flash 8 has the neccessary tools to handle file uploading, but my question is, can we have it act as a Stand alone FTP program so that we can utilize the fastest user upload, or will we be confined to the settings in the server INI settings.IE MAX_UPLOAD_TIME,MAX_FILESIZE, etc. If possible we want to avoid using the HTTP upload as it is noticeably slower. So if we can use flash to utilize user BW to upload, then that would be ideal.
Is it possible to, if you have an array of class names like ActionScript Code: var city01names:Array = ["pic_01", "pic_02", "pic_03" ...] make a new array which would read these names, instantiate them, and push them into a new array containing the instances of all these pictures, which I could then use for a slideshow?
I have an array called dropTarg1 which stores dropped-in items.I want to loop through this array and in a textfield, display each array item on a new line of this text fieldI think I need to use something like Array.join("/n") but I can't get it working properly. I hope that the /n would create a new line of the text field called reviewBoxContentText.
I am not sure my title is correct.Is there any 3rd-party library on AS3.0( like STL in C++), can do this: I define my class and use its objects as associative array, for example:
Is there any 3rd-party library on AS3.0( like STL in C++) around, can do this:I define my class and use its objects as associative array, for example:
class Company{ var public name; var public logo; var public address; var public telnumber; }
And use a kind of data structure class(say, List) to store a few Company-type objects. And then, I define my own comparing and searching function on that List class(namely, override the default one); within my functions I could specify on which attribute(name, or address, or telephone number) to perform searching, and how it would be performed.
I have 4 buttons and an empty array. When a button is clicked,I'm adding a element to an array with array.push. However, I want to check the array 1st to see if that element exists. If so, then don't add it. Here's what I have thus far
[Code]...
Now I'm taking it I'd have a conditional statement to see if the element already exists. Unfortunatly I cannot just disable the button. I searched the AS dictionary but oddly enough it doesn't have an easy way to search an array. And IndexOf seems to only work for a string.
I got a music portfolio web site running PHP, MySQL and Flash. There's a page showing all the artists my client worked for and when you click on a song title, this title is passed as a variable to a PHP page then to a Flash page. The Flash page contains an actionscript music player which then looks for the right audio file in the database and plays the song. Everything works great except for the dynamic text field which displays the song title. If the song title contains an apostrophe or a single quote, the Flash dynamic text field then shows the apostrophe.[code]
