I want to have a different coloured stroke (outline) used on the pie wedge under the mouse from the outline used on the other wedges.
The PieSeriesItem referenced by the mouseover event doesn't have a stroke parameter, and it looks like it is an all or nothing deal with the outline colour on the whole pie.
Is there any way of specifying the stroke parameter on a specific wedge?
Is there a way to draw a line on a graph (or at least get the position) on specific date?
I have a graph where X is Date data, I want to draw a line with a text on each Year and each 3 months as reference, not part of the graph series.
This should be a bit of simple geometry: How do I calculate the points to draw the lines in the code below so that it makes a 2D cone or wedge shape?

Apparently, it is not possible to have a chart with several independant horizontal axis. What I am trying to achieve is :
Display a bar chart, organized by any category
Overlay a line (actually a single horizontal line) on top of it (to display some sort of threshold)

This is the closest to what I want, except that the line does not start span all the graphs vertically (it is drawn only between the two columns of my bar chart). Is it possible to define a completely independant horizontal axis? I also tried drawing directly on the canvas, but the canvas.lineTo() method only works in "data" coordinate; I would need something that works in "chart/canvas/absolute/whatever" coordinates.

I am struggling with an issue where I want to create a function that draws an outline of any object and I want to use this outline as curve path so I can animate objects on this path using Tweener. Like that:

I'm on the user have to be able to draw/trace outlines of different shapes. So for example an "S" shape is on the screen, and the user needs to try to draw OVER that shape. So it's not just mouse recognition, it has to see if the user draw over that shape good enough. So it's kind of like a colorbook but you only draw the outline of the shape, if you know what I mean.
I've been searching the web and haven't found any pre made solution for this, but I thought that before I try to make it all from scratch I could ask you guys here about it.
I'm just starting out with AS3, so I'm trying my hand as some of the more basic drawing functions, to try and get a handle on them. The problem I've hit is using 'curveTo' to create a smooth curve is creating some very poor aliasing results. Here is an example: [URL]
The first part (which is actually on the right) is a very simple curve from 50,50 to 100,100, through 100,50. I would have expected the end points of the line to be single pixel width, but it's aliased over two pixels.
The second part (on the left) shows why this is a problem for me. I'm trying to draw a basic shape outline with a semi-circle at the top, but it really doesn't look great (it looks shifted half a pixel to the left relative to the rest of the shape).

Adobe's docs describe how to apply an outline to the pie chart by using the mx:stroke element within a PieSeries, however this only changes the border of the entire chart.
How do I add a border around each of the wedges in the chart?
Is there a way to easily specify on which sides a border is drawn for Flex 4's Spark BorderContainer?[URL]But that uses MX styling which seems like a hack. Is there a better or 'correct' way without having to build a skin? It seems incredibly silly to build a skin for a 'Bordered' component when this is a very common use case.
View 1 RepliesI've been working for several months on a project that generates dynamic data charts. Suddenly the project had a problem-- the charts will not draw properly on screen. The only way to make the colums of the chart appear is to move the mouse into the area where the charts should exist: As I move the mouse accross the area, the chart columns appear as if by magic! However, if I move a scroll bar which controls the display area, the chart columns disappear again. I've tried this on 2 different computers and gone back and tested it on several earlier versions of the project, and they all fail At this point, the only factor that I have not tried to control for is the Flash Player which I recently updated.
View 7 RepliesI'm trying to prevent a default chart item roll over highlight in a Spark column chart.If you look at any of the chart examples on this page , when you roll over any of the chart series items, they turn a darkened shade of their original colour. This is what I want to prevent.
So far I have had no luck with using the itemRollOverColor property, as this only allows you to set it to one specific colour for the whole chart (my app has several different coloured series on the chart at once). Also, trying to leverage the itemRollOver event (with preventDefault() etc) hasn't worked either.
I'm trying to make chart which is combination of bar and line chart using Flex Charting API . Here x axis would be common and y axis would be different. note that y axis got different range of value one is % and other is amount. Any one got idea how to make this chart. I'm new to Flex, I've tried to do this using a CartesianDataCanvas inside backgroundElements in mxml, then using ActionScript to draw lines on the data canvas using moveTo(x1,y1) and lineTo(x2,y2), which draws a line between (x1,y1) and (x2,y2).
The problem with the above method is the tick mark length is a function of the chart area (which depends on the browser window size).
What I need is a method that:
(1) starts at a data coordinate (e.g. moveTo(x1,y1) works fine for this)
(2) draws a line to a screen coordinate (e.g. lineTo(x_screen, y_screen) where x_screen and y_screen are screen coordinates).
Is there anything that can accomplish this in Flex/AS3?
Alternatively, could I use screen coordinates for both steps above? If so, how to convert between screen and data coordinates? For example, is the upper right corner of the screen always a fixed data coordinate that I could reference is creating such a conversion?
Alternatively, could I save a five-pixel line in Illustrator and simply paste that image in the chart somehow? If so, how to paste it exactly at a data coordinate?

I want to draw stock price in real time as a candle graph. I get open flash chart from someone and it looks good at drawing. I don't know how to update the candle graph in real time (using Ajax?), and is it a good way? I use Python a lot. But I cannot find tools as easily to use as OFC.

I have a movieclip that has a keyframe at every frame, and I'd like my code to be able to draw to the individual keyframes within that clip. I'm generating images for animation, but the code takes a few seconds per image, so the animation can't simply be generated on the fly. I want the code to draw all of the images into the movieclip and then play the animation as a loop once that's done. It seems like this would be a pretty straighforward method, but I can't get it to work. It seems that when I draw into the movieClip, it ignores the fact that I have keyframes there. Whatever I draw appears at every frame as if it's drawn onto a different layer that just has the default keyframe at frame 1. To test, I manually put drawings into the keyframes, and they loop back as expected. The only problem seems to be that the animation images generated by actionScript appear all on top of each other and held for the entire movieClip loop. The following is code that I had hoped would draw into frame 2 of the movieClip. I assume that this is naive:

I'd like to be able to use a pencil image (custom cursor?) to draw in a defined area - its the 'ol pencil drawing a line idea on a pad. I don't know how to define the area? I've tried creating either a btn or mc instance called pad_mc & trying rollOver/Out which confines the pen but not the line. This is what I have so far, which works (ie it draws the line) but obviously it goes everywhere, not just over the mc of the pad.

if I had a better understanding of bezier curves. This should draw a wedge of specified angle and radius, with the the bisector a vertical line. There appears to be something I don't get, because the curve does not conform to a perfect circle.

View 1 RepliesMy group is working on a Flex/AS3 scientific web application that is data intensive. Luckily the only plots involved are line charts. However, each line chart may have multiple traces (up to 24), and each trace may contain up to 2000 points. The user will need to zoom in and out and interact with the data (e.g. data tips, etc.).
The response I'm getting from developers is that's a lot of data to render in a plot in Flash. For reasons beyond the scope of this post, we can't sample the data to reduce the size (this has already been done and nature of the data prevents further sampling).
Rendering speed is critical for this app. What kind of rendering speed should I expect the Flex 4 line chart component to provide for a given number of points (e.g. 1 second to render 1000 points?)
Are there products available that handle plotting large data sets better, which can be incorporated in Flex (I've seen FusionCharts and ZingCharts online but have no idea how they compare with Flex's components)? Of those, which are easy to develop with while still providing a lot of flexibility in look and feel?
Flex charts, like AreaChart, have wonderful built-in support for displaying data "tool tips" when a user hovers over a point supplied in the data of a graph. You can hover over any of the bar graph examples on this page for a demonstration. I have a graph situation where I optionally draw in some dots as reference points on CartesianDataCanvases supplied to my AreaChart through it's <mx:annotationElements> and <mx:backgroundElements> tags.
I would like to have the same hover data-tip functionality that the AreaChart has, but applied to these dots. I realize that I am just drawing on canvas, and that no actual dataProvider supports these dots, but if there was a way to supply the CartesianDataCanvas with an array of data values or something to that effect,
