I got some issues trying to watch Lee's Advanced Flash preloader tutorial. The video stops in the begining, cant download full file too. Stops when he begins to explain about the bandwidth.

, Downloaded the source files, and extracted the files, it plays perfectly with the extracted .SWF file. but upon opening the .fla, and re-generating the.SWF file i get this output error

I have two HTML pages, each with a .swf movie on them. The first page has the splash .swf intro movie on it. I want to add a preloader to splash.swf that loads main.swf which is on main.html which loads when you click ENTER. I don't know if this is possible or not. The reason I have 2 seperate .swf's on seperate pages is because I need a different background color for each page. If this can't be done then I would be interested in just loading the main.swf into the user's cache as soon as they open the first page so that it acts as a preloader. I uploaded it to [URL]. The .swf's might not load correctly on mac's for some reason, but should be fine on a PC (no clue why).
View 1 RepliesAfter thinking over this for sometime It's a tad more advanced than i think I'm at, at the moment.So this idea for the preloader, its a single lined textbox 44 characters long. The idea is that once you click on the object a .length determines the length of the text then subtracts it from 44, then while the preloader.onLoadprogess is doing its thing i'd like to add a "."+preloaderStatus to the textfield (the preloaderStatus is the 10% etc to 100%)
So it'd start as :
1) Yaiks
2 while loading) Yaiks.....................20
3 finished) Yaiks.......... .......................100
But at the end the 100 will stop at 44 with the right amount of "..." in the middle determined by the length of the original text in the field.
I have two scenes setup where the first scene has a preloader that works great - here is the catchy part though - my first scene (where the code is) is 140 frames long and the second scene is over 400 frames - once all of the frames have been loaded from the second scene the first scene JUMPS to and plays frame 1 of the second scene, reguardless of where the playhead is in the first scene - what I want it to do is once the second scene has been loaded I want the first scene to play all the way to the end (frame 140, scene 1) of the first scene and THEN going on to the second scene (frame 1, scene 2)giving my sound and animation a smooth transition over.
View 10 RepliesI have a Flash file for an advanced preloader that fills up a circle with an image as the file loads. The problem is that the readout on screen is the percentage loaded. I am trying to get it to read kilobytes loaded over the total number of kilobytes, with the image synchronized with the amount loaded. I can actually send you the .fla file via e-mail so that you can see what I have.
View 14 RepliesI followed Lee's tutorial on the 3D rotating photo panels. Ive come to the point where I want to preload the con movieclip as the content inside is around 1mb. Ive tried several techniques but had no success.One technique was a preloader that goes to the next frame once the loading is complete. But I get an error that it cant reference the con movieclip.

I load external swf files containing video. Everything works fine so far. The only problem is that the preloaded video already starts playing while preloading (at about 30%), but without showing the video.This is the code i have so far:

I have followed both of pom's tutorials that involve experiments with perspective in Flash, but I have encountered a problem while attempting to duplicate a movie clip symbol in the second tutorial ([URL]). I have a single instance of the "ball" movie clip symbol appearing at random positions. However, I cannot seem to successfully duplicate the symbol instance at random positions using the loop that pom provided:

View 2 RepliesI want to make a flash form where the viewer/user can watch a video clip of their choice (from a drop-down control or something else if there's a better way). I've found myself totally unable to find our how to do this. I mean, frankly, I don't even know what kind of file to start from the "New..." form at the beginning of Flash (CS 3.0, btw)!
I know how to create a Flash Player and link it to a single video. What I envision is that after the page comes up, with a single player component (initially empty), the user chooses a video from the drop-down list and that video starts playing in the player. What kind of file should I be starting with? {I kinda assume I'll be making an SWF to put on a web page.} Where on earth do I learn how to get the simplest things (e.g., button clicks, etc.) to work?
I am looking for a watch expression debugger for Flash AS3 (not flex). I have found this: demonsterdebugger but the refresh is not in real time (like the trace does), it has a lag of 3 seconds. It is important because i am developing a flash box2d game so I need the coordinates while playing.I've tried also KapInspect with the Digiex pluging, but it gets down the framerate and it is embebbed. So it is not good for me. Can you please tell me one good debugger? I am using Flash Builder 4 (it has not whach expression inspector)

View 1 RepliesI have a 180mb SWF which is a lecture from one of my online classes, when i try to watch it i can watch about 20 minutes and then it will run out of memory. I watched in my task manager as Flash player went from only using 20mb to upwards of 500mb to 1000mb and it kept going up, it's like the more i watch it just keeps going up and up. Tried it on 3 different computers and still get the same problem, is there some reason this would be happening? Why does flash player eat up so much memory? I have Adobe Flash CS4 installed so it's playing through the player not a web browser or anything. (tried it in web browser and it does the same thing)

View 1 Repliesoriginal: I really just need to figure out how to center the pictures. here is what I did I have modified the tutorial that I finished to have a bigger stage for bigger pictures. Everything is working properly but the pictures are displayed on the left side, I want to have them centered in the stage for the images, after clicking on the thumbnails, plus my images are different sizes as well. ranging from 200x410 to 744x410 but all are the same height of 410. i will post up what I am talking about at the end. I am looking to learn Actionscript 3 but have not been able to find the best way to do this. I have knowledge with HTML and CSS and have used Flash to create simple web banners, etc., but I want to get into more advanced Flash design and use Actionscript. I have looked through books but they all seem to require some knowledge of programming already. What is the best way for someone who has no programming experience to begin to learn Actionscript? Is there a specific book someone can recommend, or training course or a person who does 1-on-1 training?

View 6 RepliesI am primarily a programmer, a games programmer by trade who happened to pick up Flash on the side and later through a series of coincidences became a full time flash developer. Most of my work thus far has been code heavy, and has focussed on such things as interacting with web services, localization with xml files, flash video, streaming video, networking etc.
My employer recently lost one of its contractors who built a lot of animation heavy flash apps for them, and as I know my way around the Flash IDE quite well, and have created fairly complex animations in the past, they have asked me to assume a more animation orientated role. To this end, they have offered to send me on courses to get up to speed with Flash animation.
As I know probably 90-95% of Flash's capabilities, and am comfortable with animating / easing / masking / filters / tweening and how to produce these effects programmatically, my interest would lie in a course that teaches fairly advanced uses / best practices of flash. For instance, I find that there are many ways to do things in Flash, but only a few approaches that will get you there without the entire IDE coming to a grinding halt (shape hints is a good one, or perhaps an approach has forced you into a corner with many tweened animations which now need a small alteration made to all of them).
Webwasp has got this rather cool looking script posted that is supposed to allow you to open a browser window, AND allow you to define its width, height, etc -- all from Flash!! It's posted here: [URL] The problem is, I can't get the darn thing to work! They've got an example swf posted on that page, and there is the option to download the source...but only if you PAY! All the code is there, which I tried to copy and paste into my own file and publish, but it don't work! (And yes, I did publish it as an html file and view it in the browser, and yes, I did have pop1.htm and pop2.htm files for Flash to open!)

I'm creating a header with navigation buttons that are thumbnails of larger images. When a button is moused over I would like a short transition, that spans the entire stage, followed by a display of a larger image of the thumbnail button on the left side of my stage. The transition is constant for each button but the images pertain to specific areas of my site. Basically I'd like to use this mouseover as a visual preview and when then the button is clicked the visitor is taken to that particular section of my site.
