Professional :: Reproducible Error: Flash Can Not Parse This Document

Oct 27, 2010

I have a reproducible error: I am being forced to fix corrupted flash files that give the "Flash can not parse this document" error. But shortly after I fix the problem, the files are re-corrupted.

Here is how the problem is reproduced: when I update a custom component that is used in other symbols in the library. When a new version of a custom component symbol added to the library, replacing an older version, the symbols that contained the old symbol are corrupted in the XML. This is tedious and time consuming to work around.

This is not specific to any .fla file, but seems to be related to Flash itself. The program seems to work fine otherwise. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Flash - Opening PDF Document With Adobe Acrobat Reader?

Jun 7, 2011

I want to open up a pdf-document (included within the *.air-package) with adobe acrobat (or any other pdf-reader). I've followed this solution openWithDefaultApplication fails on files in application folder.

var _myfilename = "John_Doe-tax_return_2011.pdf";
// = my filename
//run:
var realFile:File = File.applicationDirectory.resolvePath(_myfilename);
var tempFile:File = File.createTempFile();
realFile.copyTo(tempFile,true);
tempFile.openWithDefaultApplication(); //nothing happens ?
//end;

I've tested it all, so it's not a directory issue
trace(tempFile.extension)
// > tmp (?? tempFile.extension = "pdf" doesn't works)
trace(realFile.exists)
// > true (original pdf-document exists!)

The Operation Could Not Be Completed As An Error Has Occurred

Apr 21, 2009

I have tried to import a movie into Flash 8 and the message appears "The operation could not be completed as an error has occurred".  It will not pu the movie on to the stage.  Do you think there is something wrong with the movie file or am I missing a step?  This is what I do:

1) open a new flash file

2) file - import video

3) browse to find the movie file and then click next

4) Click the option 'progressive download from a web server'

5) I dont change any of the default settings and I don't want a skin on it

6) It runs through like it is making the file and then the message appears "The operation could not be completed as an error has occurred".

Professional :: "Flash Can Not Parse This Document" ?

May 13, 2010

I have an FLA which CS5 has apparently corrupted on a save... (When you load up the FLA in CS5, it now fails and sends "Flash can not parse this document" to the output window.Unfortunately I only found the corrupted nature of this file AFTER I had conducted my regular routine of backing up my files - which means the backed up file is ALSO corrupt. I'm shooting in the dark here, but is there any way that the FLA can be recovered? Desperate as this is a project I have worked the last month on.

Flash :: Parse XML In File?

Nov 15, 2011

I have a 3rd party programme which generates the xml file below, and it re-writes the xml file every time a new message is received by that 3rd party programme. What I'm trying to do is find a way to read in the relevant flashvars (if that's the right term) into a flash file (basically I want to read in messages 1 - 6), ignore the rest of the xml, display the messages and then re-load the xml about every 30 seconds (in case it's changed). I guess this is pretty much like a news reader of sorts, but I don't have any control over the structure of the xml file, so if someone could point me in the right sort of direction, then I'm happy to have a go at learning. I did try messing with a basic news reader flash file that I downloaded, but it didn't seem to like the xml - I guess because each message in the xml has its own number?[code]...

Actionscript 3 :: URL Opening Error In Flash CS4

Professional :: Getting Error On Opening Specific FLA File

Feb 8, 2010

I have Flash CS3 on OSX. Everytime I open a specific FLA file, I immediately get the following error message:
"Error creating Flash Movie. Be sure the destination file is not locked or on a locked drive. Also, check to make sure the name is not too long."
Dismissing the alert box results in the same alert box instantaneously popping back, completely blocking any attempt to act upon the file. The file name is 7 characters long (extension included) and is located in a folder which contains other FLAs I have no problem publishing.

I have sent back the file in question to its creator and she had no problem opening it in CS3. She has done a "Save as..." and sent me the result, but it did not work. A collegue of mine opened it successfully in CS4. I have taken the opportunity to verify the Publish settings there (not that it should matter as I can't do anything with the file, let alone publishing it) and it is set to publish only a SWF file next to its FLA. Saving it as a CS4 file then back to CS3 has not produced a file which I can use with any success. It seems very unlikely that the file is corrupt. So is my Flash CS3 installation corrupt?

ActionScript 2.0 :: [CS3] Error Opening URL File Undefined?

Sep 13, 2010

I've been working with flash on and off for about 4 years now so I'm used to the interface but I've never worked with actionscript that much.I'm working on a flash photo gallery that uses XML to load each images title text, and the filepath to each thumbnail image and full size image.It all seems to be working fine, however when I test the movie I get the following error message in the output:Error opening URL 'file:///Z|/20930AliWebb/FlashGallery/fla/undefined'The images are stored in a folder named gallery_images and the thumbnails in a folder called gallery_thumbs, both within the fla folder. The fla folder also contains the xmlphoto.xml file and my flash file.Here's my actionscript:

ActionScript 2.0 :: Output Error Opening URL File Undefined?

Mar 11, 2008

I am using a dynamic nav menu edited using xml, when the corresponding button is pressed I want it to display some text in the text box and load a .swf into the loader m.c. It sort of works, however which ever button I click on it displays the content text and .swf for the last button listed in the xml file, when I try to set a var equal to the instance name of the button clicked on it shows the text as undefined and does not load the m.c? If I leave out the var 'currentIndex' I get a message in the output Error opening URL file undefined. I've checked everything and there are no typos.

Code:
var yPosition:Number = 0;
var myXML:XML = new XML();
myXML.ignoreWhite = true;
var links:Array = new Array();
var names:Array = new Array();
