Oct 28, 2010
Since Apple loosened their terms again, is it posible to develop a game in FLash CS5 and publish it on the Apple App Store? Are there actually any real apps / games on the App Store that were build on Flash?

I just finished with developing my application by Adobe Flash Professional CS5 and I wonder if this will be visible to iPhones 4 because support for Retina displays was added since CS5.5.
There is section in my info.plist:
<key>UIDeviceFamily</key>
<array>
<string>1</string>
</array>

I am new to Adobe Air and Iphone App Development. I wanted some suggestions regarding a Voting App that I am going to start developing using Adobe AIR. Using the App, users can visit different Events from different categories and can vote the event. I just wanted to know, if I can use PHP and mySQL (online database) to work on this project? I am familiar with Flash and PHP integration. Now I think, I will have to call the php pages from some online servers using http: and not from local.

I've recently tried FlashPunk for game development and it seems to be easy enough to comprehend, however, when me and a friend tested simple apps coded in it on the iPhone, it seems to be acquiring an unnecessarily large amount of memory plus dropping framerates.
Are there any other choices for game development with ActionScript 3 with frameworks that are optimized for mobile gaming?

Let's discuss about sell iPhone apps in an independent store, it is not crazy at all. If Apple denies us the right to choose the platform to develop apps, we can choose where to sell those apps. We cannot develop in Windows. Now Adobe gave us a solution. Now Apple doesn't allow to develop in Flash. Lets get together on this. All of we (a big WE) owe Adobe our support. Also MAC users do.

I'm interested in developing for the iPad and iPhone, but I'd prefer not to learn Apple's whole development stack (and good golly, I sure don't want to go back to manual memory management). Oh, sure, I could learn it, but I don't have that level of commitment to the environment at this point. I've got professional experience with Flex already, so I'm intrigued by Adobe's move to make Flash/Flex compile to the iPhone and iPad. My question is: how promising of a development path will Adobe's Slider be? Are we likely to see Slider publicly available in a reasonable timeframe (Adobe: "An early mobile branch of the Flex framework is expected to be available in 2010")? Are we likely to see reasonable performance? Are there development hurdles that haven't become clear yet? Heck, is it all just vaporware? There's pretty limited information available so far, as far as I've seen, but I'm interested in people's predictions, even if they're speculative.

I have built an app in Adobe Flex (4.5) and it works well on Android, but i need to test it on an iDevice. I have an iPhone 3GS available, and i have made a provisioning profile with it and certified it through the proper Apple channels, but trying to install the app to the phone through iTunes results in an error (the same one you get when trying to install non-market apps), and i can't find a way to import it into xCode.
NOTE: i developed the app on a PC in Flex, but have a MacBook Pro available for testing.

From what I understand, Apple has banned the Flash runtime on the iPhone because Apple doesn't want an alternative runtime environment to that which Apple provides via their own tools. Allowing a Flash runtime, according to Apple, would allow developers to circumvent application update policies and other controls which Apple has put in place. And at this time, Adobe has not chosen to build tools to statically compile apps created in Flash.
My further understanding is that .NET apps created via MonoTouch are statically precompiled and hit the iPhone as native code vs. running inside the .NET common language runtime (CLR), which Apple would surely disallow. Since .NET code is not executing in Microsoft's runtime but rather natively on the iPhone CPU, Apple isn't complaining.
Am I correct about why Apple allows .NET-developed applications on the iPhone?Is one vendor's precompiled, native code on the iPhone (or any platform I suppose) distinguishable from any other? In other words, is native code that's produced by MonoTouch indistinguishable from native code produced by compiled Objective C code? Is the source of the native code totally opaque?

I'm interested in building a thick client application for my existing web services that will run on the IPhone. Flash finally seems to be an option, so I thought about using Flex for client side development.
However, since flash apps are not natively supported by the IPhone, but only through a wrapper, I was wondering if these apps can persist any data. Data entered by the user should eventually be transmitted to the web service, but until then I want it to persist even if the Iphone should run out of power.
Is this possible? Or does the Iphone flash wrapper make it impossible to access the hard disk?

Has anyone been successful at submitting an app to the Apple store? I created a Lion virtual machine to use the Application Loader. All I ever get is that it doesn't recognize any of my files as application files, so I can't upload the app.

So for the splash screen at the beginning of an iPhone app, usually a Default.png is created and added to resources folder to add it. In Flash CS5 IOS development there is no resources folder so I was wondering if anyone had any experience how to get this to work.

I was reading that certain API's are not available when making iPhone apps with flash, such as accessing the camera. Is it possible to still get information from the web and display it in the app using the flash method? The overall plan is to have it pull data from an SQL database using XML, and I was just wondering if that was possible still with flash.

Compilation failed while executing: as. I am publishing a swf with one frame, no scripts, no graphics, nothing. This is a result of removing asset after asset from my original swf, which produced the same publishing error, in an effort to determine what the issue is. What conclusion can I draw from this? I just want it to do what it says on the tin: Publish flash to iOS apps. Why is this not possible?

I want to create an iPhone game with Adobe AIR, and I want that game to be able to store the players details in a MySql server.
What would be the best way to do that? Is it possible to use a standard URLRequest in AS3, and have the iPhone use that to communicate to the PHP on the server, and receive back data?

It's about the "Game Character Dialogues", It is used to instruct the user what to do, like what you see in BookWorm or Diner DAsh.I used dynamic text fields to generate these dialogues,but as I continued doing it. I found myself stuck.I have no idea on how to change the words when the "next" button is clicked. there will be no previous button. but the dialogue will replay when the character is clicked.

My OS is Win 7 and I have the windows test versionof Flash Builder Burrito.There I can only develop for Android devices.I've heard it's only possible to develop forthe iPhone/iPad with a Macintosh computer.Or is there a trick to develop for iPhone/iPad on Windows PC with Adobe software(because I don't want to pay a second time for Adobe software for MAC)and only copy the result to a Macintosh?
Is it possible in the MAC version of Flash Builder Burrito to develop for iPhone/iPad (and also for Android)?Or have I to use a different IDE for iPhone/iPad apps becauseApple wants native apps and Flash builder burritois only for AIR/Flash app development?

There's clearly a bunch of new stuff in Flash 10, I'm seeing a bunch in the Graphics class so far. Struggling a bit to reconcile it with what I know already but it looks useful - render lists and 3D transforms, etc - however I wondered if there are good arguments for targeting Flash 9 since I can definitely manage without all the new stuff I don't know. Like support on non-Windows devices, wide adoption of Flash 9 Vs 10, etc.

Or something similar for this purpose, or there is simpler way to connect 2 players and make fully functional interaction between them?
