The labels won't change after the button is created, so I'm not worried about the missing [Bindable] metadata.
I'm stuck right now, getting the following compiler error:
Multiple initializer values for default property, 'label', of type 'String'.
...for each of the 3 <s:Label> lines.
Based on this answer to a similar question, I tried adding label="" to my <s:Button> declaration, but that just adds another error.
I am trying to create a custom component in flex that consists of a Button, and a TileList directly below that button. On button click event the TileList should open/close. The component works fine, but when I add it to my main flex app, inside a VBox, it simply opens and closes within the VBox. Because the height of the VBox is much smaller than the custom component's TileList, it causes scrollbars. My issue with it is that it should behave like a ComboBox/Pull-down menu and go over the VBox, instead of going inside it. how to overlay the custom component, so it behaves like a ComboBox/Pull-down?

This will set alpha for the entire stroke to .8 But I want to be able to set a different alpha on the stoke for each plot based on something in the dataProvider. For example the yField in the lineSeries is "Apple" which is how it knows where to plot for the lineSeries. I want to be able to add something like alphaField which tells it what to set the stroke alpha for each plot.

I need to create a lot of custom Flex 4 skins, in most of the examples I found on the web people use FXG in order to create the skins but if a lot of the icons I use are not resizeable should I still use FXG or better use just plain old bitmap images (jpg. png)?

It is working well at runtime, bud I have troubles making it working at design-time. How can I make databinding work at the design time? If it is impossible, how should I code the label text assignments?
I have to create a marker with 3 triangles at 120 degrees with each other. The fill colour of the three triangles will be different (to be decided depending upon the value of some other variable).

In my flex app there are a few custom components. I want to create instance of these components at runtime and assign them properties by reading in a config file. I know how to read xml and instantiate components, however my question is about being able to get the type of the component from the xml attribute and then creating an instance of that type.
View 1 RepliesI have a custom TextInput-based component for date and time with certain restrictions on what's considered "within range". But it's still fine to insert dates that are outside the range. When a user types in a date, on valueCommit, I'd like to be able to display a hovering notification to the user, to inform/warn them that the date is outside the accepted range.
I'm thinking of notifications ala the Validators, but I'd rather not use the Validator mechanism because it's really not validation, just notification. Something like a tooltip, but it will only appear if the user changed the value. Maybe an effect of some sort?

TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert events::MapEvent@a74ab51 to flash.events.MouseEvent.

Note: The error in my earlier post is giving below error message

The difference here are two things, the earlier error is while converting flash event to custom event and now this one is while converting custom event to flash event and secondly, I have no clue why it is trying to convert to the mouseevent where I am just dispatching my custom event with proper listeners.

I'm trying to create a series of scripts that will create some custom event listeners.
I have three movie clips on my stage. One is a movieclip who's sole function is to hold array's and the event listeners. A second which moves around the screen. And a third that is motionless.
The problem is that the argument I want to test (which activates the custom event) is held within a string.
What I want to know is, how do you test to see if the string argument is true?
Is it something similar to this:

I think I'm going about this in the wrong manner, however this is the only way I can think of this working... (since I need to be able to dynamically create these events)

View 3 RepliesI have combed through the forums and read every font embedding article I could find and still I don't understand what's going on. I have created a simple test case that I have attached to this post. Hopefully someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong.Here's the situation ...ultimately, my goal is to be able to dynamically create text fields with embedded fonts (I'm using Arial or Arial Unicode) that can display a variety of languages (English and Russian are the primary ones I'm working on right now). In the attached sample, I have added a font to the library and set it to use Arial Unicode.I have 3 text fields on the stage: Field 1 is generated entirely from code using createTextField, Field 2 is a design-time text field that uses the embedded library font, and Field 3 is a design-time text field that uses basic Arial rather than Arial Unicode.For the 2 design-time fields I have embedded the glyphs necessary to display English and Russian as well as some others.I also have a few buttons on the stage to create the 3rd text field (using createtextfield), send english or russian text to all 3 fields, and turn embedding on/off of the generated text field.
Here are the results I've found:With embedding OFF:English shows up fine in all 3 text fields (in the generated one, it uses the system default font instead).Russian shows up in the generated field and in the 3rd field (basic Arial) but NOT in the field that uses the embedded library font.With embedding ON:NOTHING shows up in the generated text field the 2 design time fields function the same as they did before.I REALLY don't understand why the design-time text field doesn't work when it uses the library version of the font. Why should that matter? I also don't get why even ENGLISH doesn't work in the generated field when embedding is on.
//EDIT: I just tried using Arial as the font for the generated text field rather than using the linkage name for the library font and now the embedding works. So I guess my main question is why it doesn't work using the library font....I thought that using the library font .
