Flex :: Any Way To Create Extensible Custom Container?

I want to create an MXML container component that has some of its own chrome -- a standard query display, et al -- and that supports the addition of child components to it. Something a lot like the existing mx:Panel class, which includes a title label, but acts like a plain mx:Box with regards to adding children. To be clear, I want to be able to extend the container using MXML, so the "Multiple visual children" problem is relevant.

I want to make a custom container, usable in MXML like:
<local:MyContainer>
<s:Label/>
<s:Button/>
...
</local:MyContainer>

But I'd like to be able to catch when the children are added so that I can control stuff like when & where they're added. I tried overriding addChild(), addChildAt(), addElement(), addElementAt(), (extending the Group class) but they only fire when you add elements specifically with those functions - the application launches and the label, button, etc, end up in MyContainer without calling these functions. How do I control the addition of sub-components via MXML?

Flex :: Prevent Container In ItemRenderer From Exceeding Width Of List Container?

In a Flex Mobile project I have a simple itemRenderer where I'm trying to create an "bubble" texting effect, similar to ichat or iphone (just so you get what im going for). But if the text is longer than the screen it runs off, rather than just going down a line.

If I set Group thats holding the rectangle(to create the bubble effect) and the label to 100% it works and keeps it from exceeding the list containers bounds, BUT the group is always at 100% and looks bad, I'm trying to keep the "bubble" JUST AROUND the text.

Anyway so, at the top of my itemRenderer I tried specifying:

xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" width="100%" height="100%">

And here's my layout I figured since msg_container has a width of 100% I was hoping bubble_lable_group would just not exceed that but...it doesnt...it just runs off. I tried setting a max width but that does not allow you to input percents. And just to say it 1 more time. I know if i set bubble_lable_group width to 100% it works, and keeps it from going off the edge, but then the rectangle "bubble" stretches all the way across and just looks bad.

I would like to create a custom Button component with three labels: left-, center-, and right-justified. I can't just use the label justification property, because I want to use all 3 labels at the same time.

I'm familiar with creating custom components, but I've never tried to build one quite like this before...

Here's what I have so far:

The labels won't change after the button is created, so I'm not worried about the missing [Bindable] metadata.

I'm stuck right now, getting the following compiler error:

Multiple initializer values for default property, 'label', of type 'String'.

...for each of the 3 <s:Label> lines.

Based on this answer to a similar question, I tried adding label="" to my <s:Button> declaration, but that just adds another error.

Flex :: Create A Custom Component That Consists Of A Button

I am trying to create a custom component in flex that consists of a Button, and a TileList directly below that button. On button click event the TileList should open/close. The component works fine, but when I add it to my main flex app, inside a VBox, it simply opens and closes within the VBox. Because the height of the VBox is much smaller than the custom component's TileList, it causes scrollbars. My issue with it is that it should behave like a ComboBox/Pull-down menu and go over the VBox, instead of going inside it. how to overlay the custom component, so it behaves like a ComboBox/Pull-down?

This will set alpha for the entire stroke to .8 But I want to be able to set a different alpha on the stoke for each plot based on something in the dataProvider. For example the yField in the lineSeries is "Apple" which is how it knows where to plot for the lineSeries. I want to be able to add something like alphaField which tells it what to set the stroke alpha for each plot.

I need to create a lot of custom Flex 4 skins, in most of the examples I found on the web people use FXG in order to create the skins but if a lot of the icons I use are not resizeable should I still use FXG or better use just plain old bitmap images (jpg. png)?

I have a loop that goes through data from a book and displays it. The book is not consistent in it's layout so I am trying to display it in two different ways. First way(works fine) is to load the text from that section in to a panel and display it. The second way is to create a new panel (panel creates fine) and then add collapsable panels(nested) to that panel. Here is the code from the else loop.

The error I get is: ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property panel4.4 not found on components.readTest and there is no default value.

I have tried setting the "name" property instead of the "id" property.

I have a custom TextInput-based component for date and time with certain restrictions on what's considered "within range". But it's still fine to insert dates that are outside the range. When a user types in a date, on valueCommit, I'd like to be able to display a hovering notification to the user, to inform/warn them that the date is outside the accepted range.

I'm thinking of notifications ala the Validators, but I'd rather not use the Validator mechanism because it's really not validation, just notification. Something like a tooltip, but it will only appear if the user changed the value. Maybe an effect of some sort?

I am creating an flex Air project,so mxml file will run. I have circles in one Big circle at one side and will be same on other side.

Now how to drag any circle from any Big circle to other side. Or it could be like any two container having circles, then how to drag and drop circle?

For one circle i am able to do drag and drop.But I want one Big circle on left hand side and one big circle on right hand side .And small circles with class names will be in these big circles.Now i want to drag and drop those small circles in big circles.Big cicles should not move. This is NOT duplicate of my earlier post (its is slightly different)But this is similar issue with similar error but its not the same error The error I am getting now is below while dispatching the custom event from my custom component

TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert events::MapEvent@a74ab51 to flash.events.MouseEvent.
dispatchEvent(new MapEvent(MapEvent.CLICKED_ON_MAP));

Note: The error in my earlier post is giving below error message

Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.events::Event@81ecb79 to com.events.ShopEvent

The difference here are two things, the earlier error is while converting flash event to custom event and now this one is while converting custom event to flash event and secondly, I have no clue why it is trying to convert to the mouseevent where I am just dispatching my custom event with proper listeners.
