I have created a video chat room by FMS/Flex. what I need to do is:
If everybody in one chat room can use rtmfp, we go with rtmfp if anybody in the chat room disabled his rtmfp, we go with rtmp.
Now I need to create a logic to decide if everybody can use rtmfp between each other, Is there a good way to do so?
I want to implement a Chat room in Flex 3.
View 1 RepliesI am testing RTMFP unicast for a video chat project using FM Developer Server 4.0.During the testing I overloaded the upload traffic to make packets dropped rather than suffering delay due to retransmission.
However, I see it makes a significant delay and it looks like doing retransmission just like RTMP.
Do you know if there is an option in FMS to disable the retransmission or other configuration I have to consider?One thing I found is "Netstream.videoReliable=false; Netstream.audioReliable=false;" but it doesn't make any difference.
Does anyone know of a 'Flash Chat' room to chat with Flash Devleopers?

View 6 RepliesI am using Adobe Citrus and Air. The goal is to make a voice chat application with low latency. I take the sound samples that I get from the Microphone SAMPLE_DATA_EVENT encode them in using Native Process and speexenc.exe.
The question with method should I use for the sending of the samples. I tried object repication and the latency is to big.
I am building an enterprise application which involves many to many video chat. Most of the chats at any given time will be idle but they still need to trasmit some frames to keep the video chat alive and let other person know that someone is available. Will I be able to achieve this without any media server such as FMS and wowza? I heard about data packet loss during RTMFP. Is that true? What would be my limitations?

View 3 RepliesI have performance issues with my test web chat app - video playback is very slow on, around 1 frame per few seconds at 640x480, 15fps, quality: 90. Network usage is low (gigabit LAN), cpu's still have some headroom so it should be the software.
Quick description of my setup:red5 0.9.1; simple flash broadcast and subscribe derived from here [URL] and mr. accattato's videos; using oflaDemo on serverside.
Local image on the broadcaster is good.So far I guess flash broadcaster would be the most likely culprit, but here is my worst since I am new to flex. Red5 should not modify the stream I guess, and it doesn't make much sense for the subscriber to play only 1 frame per second.

View 1 RepliesWe are building a live RTMFP voice chat application with Cumulus. While the basic voice transfer works pretty easy using NetStreams, we have one big problem:There does not seem to be a way to manipulate the microphone data that the NetStream sends, and also not a way to manipulate the data the listening NetStream receives before it is played.However, this is exactly what we need. We do not want to transfer the normal microphone recorded audio, but first pitch it, then send it, then play it. Or first send it, then pitch it, then play it. But it seems that the whole audio recording, speex encoding, speex decoding and audio playback is completely encapsuled within the NetStream class.The only ways to achieve what we want (and all of them removing NetStream completely) seem to be:Send raw pitched audio data. That does work, but is of course a lot of data to send and will likely not work fast enough outside of our local LAN testing.
Pitch audio data, convert to ogg/mp3 using existing encoders for flash, send, decode ogg/mp3 and play. But this would mean encoding each and every sample packet that is received from the microphone, adding header stuff, etc. So this would likely not even yield that much of a benefit compared to raw audio data.2.1. This would actually be a good way if there was a Speex encoder/decoder for flash. But ironically, there is none other than the built in one (which is used for encoding/decoding audio in NetStreams) that cannot be explicitly used. ot offering it, Adobe...Send the data to the Cumulus server, pitch (and probably convert) there and send to the recipient. This would likely not even be that much faster than 1. and also throw away the exact benefit of RTMFP, P2P communication.
Looking for a component which can be embedded inside my site (PHP, ASP.NET...whatever) and give a support for video chat. I'm not a flex developer and would like to use a component. There are some/many video chats available, like flashcoms, red5chat...but all of those are heavy(monolit) components.
What I would like to have on my site is just a small video showing output from my camera (me) and another video showing the other party...but those videos should be split, not in the same flash component, but separate (two different EMBED tags on my page).
Are there any components available to do that (of course with support from appropriate media server)? Are there any good guides on how to develop such a component?
Currently we are in the design phase of an application that will allow two users to communicate with each other using chat and video (with audio), the application is a web application that currently is a java web app with Spring and hibernate, but we want to incorporate video and chat between two users and we are evaluating the options to developing it, so far we have two choices, either develop a Flex UI that leverages its video and chatting capabilities through Red5 or something like that and communicates with the Spring app using BlazeDS or a completely java based approach using (maybe) JMF and/or applets to achieve the video and chat interaction. The question is, which would be the most scalable approach to develop such an application?, what would be the approach that is the least intrusive from the end user perspective?

with having a just brief rough idea, i figured that i need to have a socket server and socket class for it. (i tried to make a chatting room with just urlvariable and php mysql but it seems its more appropriate to use the socket server.
well the site will be more focused on the CONNECTION between the logged users and they will need to be able to interact each other when they are viewing photos, videos, sharing thoughts, prayers, etc, and for that matter socket server seems must.
but i do not have any knowledge on the server socket, how to make em and how to set up them. can someone please give me a insight or direction where i should start and look for ?
i figured php isnt suitable for a socket server(which is the only language that i know of) so i m lookin into java or python but i have no idea what to do.
So I built a videochat client that uses the adobe stratus protocol. Its very simple and just connects two users. However, after about a minute of video chatting the clients freeze and the browser crashes.what might have caused this? Is there some sort of cache that I need to clear every so often or a possible memory leak? I am not sure where to start

I have an app that streams in video live, and archives it as it goes along.My question is this: What happens when I hit, or allow, 'pause' on a live stream, and then 'play'? Obviously the person on the other end streaming continues to do so, and my application continues to archive it, but what about the person receiving the stream?
Do they resume play from the archived copy, or do they seek ahead to the current point in the stream, missing everything they were paused for?
Is there an open source implementation of rtmfp?Is there FMS hosting that support rtmfp?

I would like to get the NetStream width/height when receiving a RTMFP stream. This is important because the video component needs different measures when, for example, the user receives a 4:3 or a 16:9 stream.
Unfortunately, the onMetaData callback for NetStream does not work as it does for RTMP streams.
I would like to serve high quality video (H.264) between a server and a single Flash Player client with low latency (RTMFP). The single client will be controlling a robotic device and seeing the results through the video stream, so low latency is important.
Option A: The Flash Player supports low latency streaming of video between two P2P nodes via the RTMFP protocol in Flash Player 10. It uses the Spark codec to encode the video and as far as I know it is not possible to encode using any other codec in the player.
Option B: Flash Media Live Encoder does support live encoding using other codecs (On2 and H.264) but cannot act as an RTMFP peer - this option would require Flash Media Server in the middle.It seems I cannot stream video to a single client over RTMFP with anything other than Spark.
