View 2 RepliesThis seems so simple and yet I can't figure out why my MovieClips won't hold their instance names.[code]And I do this for each button (I know I can do this with XML but nothing seems to work right now so I've broken it all down to see what's going wrong).[code]And the trace statement gives me "instance29" or some such. Can't seem to get the name to stick. I've tried creating getter and setter methods in my button class to access a label property and use that instead of the name but it comes out undefined when I trace. I'm having trouble finding anything on the forums though I'm sure it must be there. Could someone point me in the right direction. I don't need a full answer, just an explanation of why this is happening.

When Mouse is down on PlanetEarth_mc, only PlanetEarthOuter_mc starts moving, leaving PlanetEarthInner_mc and PlanetInner_txt in the same existing place. I want to call the parent of the target i.e. I want to move PlanetEarth_mc. also, EventReceived.target.parent.startDrag();//Gives Error. How can I achieve that from received MouseEvent Object I hope u understand this.

View 8 RepliescreateTextField function has the following signature:createTextField(instanceName:String, ...)it's ok if the instance name is passed as a string literal.but it does not recognise it if it is passed as a name of the variable containing this string:
createTextField("name_of_the_textfield", ...) is OK
name_of_the_textfield.type="input";
trace(name_of_the_textfield.type) returns "input"

Is there a way to lock instancename in a swf to prevent it conflict with other swf, when they are loaded in mainmovie.
Say I have this string: in both b.swf and c.swf. And they are loaded up at the same time in a.swf.
loadMovie(this.pathToPicsJan+this.pArrayJan[0], _root.photoJan);
Somehow the mainmovie get confused with the instancenames. Is there a way to get around with this so I don't have to rename each name?? It would b such a hassle to rename all instancenames if I got many duplicated/similar swfs.
I want a function that makes every movieclip on the scene thats beeing released to do whats in the actonscript.My function doesnt woork, is there a function that works for every movieclip on the scene whatever instancename the movieclip has ?
Code:
movieClip.onRelease = function() {
this._alpha=50;
trace(YEAS);
}
I have a flash map that contains 51 movieClips, one for each state.Sample instanceName for a state (Alabama) would be: S_01
I have a XML record that contains specific info for each state.<stateID>01</stateID
I am trying to link the stateID's in the XML record to the state movieClips that make up the map.var stateInstanceName = 'S_' + stateID;
I was just trying to do a simple trace command to see if I could pull the _width of each state clip to see if I was linked up:
trace(mapInstance.stateInstanceName._width)
As2 converting to as3 I would like to: Load a movie or an image Be able to have a loading bar (this is not necessary for now, unless easy) To KNOW when its loaded
To access its properties like instance name and xPos and yPos so I can tween it on command.
In Actionscript and Adobe Flex, I'm using a pattern and regexp (with the global flag) with the string.match method and it works how I'd like except when the match returns multiple occurrences of the same word in the text. In that case, all the matches for that word point only to the index for the first occurrence of that word. For example, if the text is "cat dog cat cat cow" and the pattern is a search for cat*, the match method returns an array of three occurrences of "cat", however, they all point to only the index of the first occurrence of cat when i use indexOf on a loop through the array. I'm assuming this is just how the string.match method is. I want to find the specific indices of every occurrence of a match, even if it is of a word that was already previously matched.

But I keep getting an "Error #2030: End of file was encountered." This is (probably) because the class I'm serializing is too big for the "String" object type in AS3. Is there a limitless object for storing an array of characters (or better yet binary), or am I going to have to make my own class? (like one with an array of strings)
I am trying to include double quotes in a string but logic says it would just close the string. I know in html you would use something like ". In flash...I havent the slightest.Anyone know how to go about this?
View 1 RepliesI have a String variable in my flex (flash builder 4) application containing CSV data. I need to allow the user to download this data to a local file. For example, giving them a "csv" button to click and it might present them with a save file dialog (and I would be sending the contents of my string variable).Is this possible / how ?I am using the ResuableFX component for the datagrid to csv. This the code I ended up with that works to save the string to a text file for the user (in a web browser):
var dg2CSV:DataGrid2CSV = new DataGrid2CSV();
dg2CSV.includeHeader=true;
dg2CSV.target=adgEncounters;

I really don't understand why this won't work? I've made a test which sends some POST data to a script on my page which works fine.[code]

Is there a method for string URL Encoding?

Im playing around with the last.fm api... Specifically the "getLovedtracks" call.... [URL] This is a weird one that I have never come across... The above call requires a username to return a track listing so if I hard code the username into my class like this.... var username:string = "aidanmack" No problems the call works... if I make that username equal to a dynamic text box string that has "aidanamck" typed into it..
so something like... var username:string = mystage.textbox.text
the last.fm api wont except this... I get user does not exist But if I check the call with the charles proxy Flash is defo sending the username "aidanmack" So I wonder if its to do with have how last.fms api interprets the string?
I need to be able to pass some variables FROM flash and append it to the end of my address. I assumed that if I used LoadVars, I can append the vars to the end of the string like this:
ActionScript Code:
send_btn.onRelease = function ()
{
var my_lv:LoadVars = new LoadVars();

I am sending a string to asp from flash that looks like this;
[CODE].....
The problem is when asp (probably php too) reads this string, it reads it like this
[CODE]....
Now this sucks, is there a way to encrypt my flash string so asp will read the string corectly? I know asp is url encoding the flash string, but this bit of info does not seem to help.
If i have an ASP page that is returning variables (and I can see them in the debugger) how do i consentrate a string to call that variable?
ie:
variables being returned are named:
"res1", "res2", "res3"...etc
for (var i = 0; i < 10; i++) {

I have a very general requirement that seemed very simple: Step 1: Load a new external JPEG image into a MC with a string var encoding a string caption in the URL link (VALUE="../fadeTest.swf?someTextVar=TestCaption") within the EMBED / OBJECT sections. I know how to do this and it semed to work fine. STEP2: When the JPEG is loaded I would like the substituted Text to Fade In over the JPEG. The JPEG should also fade in before the Text. The fade rate should be programmable.

I am looking for a way to check if any sting of the Array is matched to the string that in the TextField. In the code it should be something like that:

if (TestArrayTextfield_txt.text == (anyString.TestString)){

I have an Object which stores pairs for a find and replace that I perform on up to 1500 Strings at a time.The Object is populated with pairs using a method that will accept a String and then store this as a property with the value being an automatically assigned base 36 number, like this:[code]nextShort returns an automatically incremented value being the subject of .toString(36), so running the above a few times might make _pairs look like this:[cod]ehowever in my mind I foresee a massive problem in a case where I might want to "shorten" 2000+ Strings and the _pairs Object has at the same time has over 500 pairs.That ends up being 1,000,000 iterations all up which obviously doesn't seem very efficient at all.
