Google Adsense Equivalent For A Long-running Flash/Silverlight Apps?
Aug 5, 2010
I'm looking for Google Adsense alternatives for a long-running Flash/Silverlight applications. It doesn't necessarily need to be hosted directly in Flash/Silverlight (although this would be sweet) but I cannot use Google Adsense because:a) by default Google Adsense requires ads to be opened in the same browser window which involves navigating away from the page with the application. Since the application is relatively self-contained entity (a kind of an image editor) closing it is not acceptable behaviour. Altering this behaviour in Google Adsense will breach its Terms and Conditions.b) Pages are not reloaded often. Once the user starts using Flash/Silverlight application she/he will stay on the same page for a relatively long period of time. It would be nice if an advertising component be able to automatically reload its content every few minutes.
I know its not possible to copy and paste the javascript code into Flash, because Flash won't do anything about it (or cause an error). But I do know the Google Adsense code generates an iFrame to show the ad. So I was thinking if I were to grab the iFrame source (the src attribute) and load that html page into Flash... maybe? So I guess my question would be is it possible to have Flash load an HTML page?I know there is MochiAds, but I would like to get a little bit more % of the $ :)
The only way I think would be possible is to have an external interface call a javascript function to set the ad's div to show and hide (whenever necessary in the flash)
Is it possible to use Google Adsense on a Flex website? I've read that while Flex can interpret PHP and Javascript, it can't directly load PHP or Javascript. Therefore, it can't handle the ad invocation codes.
All the "pages" of my flex site run straight down the middle with no variation. And I've got a logo at the top of the page. So, I was thinking that it might be possible to add the Google Adsense code in Flex's HTML template. As all of my "pages" have the same lay-out, content won't overlap any ads.
I also read that there are some cross-platform/cross-browser problems using DIV layers with Flex-- that in some browsers the Flash content will render on top of all other content, regardless of depth.
I have a simple silverlight page for for finding available domain names. This problem is equaly valid for a flash control as well.
I use Google Analytics for monitoring the traffic. I would like to find out how long it take for users to download and render the Silverlight control.
Once the java script on a page is loaded there should be a way to start a timer and then stop the timer once the Silverlight/flash control is loaded. Key points I would like to measure are:
Time it takes to download the silverlight/flash control Time it takes to initialize the control
i wrote an swf application using action script 2,i want to be able to know the file name of the current running swf file.i know that in php i have __FILE__ to get current running php file, is there something like that in flash?
Is it possible to build an application in flash that can then be exported as say an exe and then be used in the background while another application is running? I know that sounds complicated so let me further explain. I currently dj with an application and would like to create another application with flash that allows users to play some custom sounds (drops) while running the primary dj application. I believe someone out there already has created an application via flash that does this (have to read up on it more). But from the research I did do there is no way to interface with the flash application unless you alt-tab to it. Is there someone way to build a flash application that can be assigned windows shortcuts (say f1 funuctionality) while another windows application is running?
After a long debate between many RIA/Ajax framework, we settled on GWT. When reading about it, this framework seams to be doing everything well and easy. But like any technologies, there is always down side and we we learn them the hard-way. What are the main downfalls or problems when using Google Web Toolkit (GWT)? (eg: Back/Forward Button support, Slow Response time, Layout Positioning, JavaScrit bugs, etc) So far, I got the following from the response:
I successfully did an application that uses Flex as a client as GAE as a backend.I would now like to public my application to a mobile device (galaxy tab) and still use my GAE application.
I have a server side code written in java and client side code written in flex. As client makes a request roughly every 3 seconds to the server, then I'm pretty sure I'm running into scalability problems at some point.
As far as I can see, I can host the application either in Google Apps Engine or Amazon Cloud. As I understand Amazon offers a do-it-yourself approach and I have to set up and maintain the cluster myself, which I'm not really fond of so I'm inclined to use GAE, which promises virtually infinite scalability if one can conform to the limitations and restrictions of course.
One of the limitations is the number of requests at 500 per second (can request temporarily more by filling in a special form), which roughly translates to 1500 simultaneous users, each pinging after every 3 seconds to the server.
What bothers me is that I really don't know how big this thing can grow and 1500 players definitely doesn't seem like a lot so besides using Google Apps and perhaps AWS (unless it scales better with what I'm trying to do), what other options do I have, which wouldn't cost me a fortune?
In Flash user can give permission to localhost and even local html file to access remote webservice.I fail to see the same thing for Silverlight which is a nightmare for testing on local pc.
i need a webpage (host on my website) that can play the following mp4 file either via silverlight 4 or flash[URL]..i tried various solution like flowplayer and silverlight but none of them work with the URL above. I can play the file fine using Windows media player or VLC.
For silverlight, i always get AG_E_NETWORK_ERROR exception within MediaFailed event. For flash, via flowplayer, IE page is just blank
Can someone tell me what am i missing? i am very frustrated as I have finished encoding, upload, cataloging my videos and now I am stuck at the last step.
I found Vectorlight which is quite good, but are there any tutorials or books about doing cool effects with silverlight. I'm after for resources focused more for a designing and presentation. Mostly the books about Silverlight is focused on doing boring business applications like making grids and forms.
I have to prepare a comparison between the following technologies to present it to my Project Manager, but I fell that I'm lost I want to compare between them in the following areas:the support of online video streaming the budget of using each one Learning Time will be needed to learn the technology Which one is the standard and will target a lot of users The support if I found any problem Bugs and security issues connection to DB, SOA and web services supporting of multi player
I am currently working on a windows phone project where i have test the compatibility and I do not know flash and Silverlight is supported or not on windows phone 7.3.
I've created a Flex website that plays a video using the Spark VideoDisplay component. When selected, the VideoDisplay loads in the PopUpManager.
This works fine in all the browsers, except Google Chrome take significantly longer to start playing, during which the CPU usage peaks, then goes back down once video starts playing.
I've traced the player states it goes through and they are as follows:
Loading ready (hangs for ages with high cpu) buffering playing (immediately after buffering, CPU usage goes down, video plays smoothly)
What could be causing this to temporarily hang for so much longer in Chrome? I thought I could expect the same functionality and behaviour throughout all the browsers, as Flash is simply a plugin that runs as a separate process?
Edit: It seems that it's the same in Opera too. Is there any commonality between the two that would explain this behaviour?
I am looking to add Google adsense to my Android flash games that i am creating. Is it possible to add Adsense?Or do i have to embed the game into Java through Eclipse
As it is said here: [URL] "If you do a Google search today for "MVVM and Flex", the first post is by somebody who claims that MVVM is not a good fit for Flex. I couldn't disagree more. Out of the box, the Flex framework makes it much easier to implement a Presentation Model than similar MVVM implementations in Silverlight. That is not to say that there aren't good third-party libraries that make it easier in Silverlight, but without any help, it is easier to do in Flex." So MVVM as LOGICAL CONCEPT can be implemented in both but the way it is implemented in Silverlight requires more Plumbing than Flex.
What prevents Silverlight MVVM to be implemented like Flex ? Doesn't Silverlight have same capability in event system to do the same? If yes why does Silverlight do things more complicated what's the advantages then ? Is it about using Class Interfaces which are more strongly typed? What are the disadvantages also ? For example as for implementing MULTIPLE VIEWS for 1 View-Model does Flex implementation make it also more obvious?
I'm trying to make a guitar practice website, and a critical functionality is to loop over very short mp3 files (a few seconds long), with absolutely zero gap in between. For example, it could a 4-measures-long chord progression, and I want to allow the user to loop over it seamlessly.
I tried using the HTML5 <audio> tag with the loop attribute. Google Chrome gives a small gap between the loops, but big enough to be totally unacceptable for my purpose. I haven't tested the other browsers, but I believe it won't work.A possible workaround is to use ffmpeg to stream repetitions the same audio as an mp3. However, this costs a lot of bandwidth.
For myself I use Audacity to loop without gaps, but unfortunately Audacity doesn't have a web version. So, do you have any ideas how I may loop over an mp3 in a browser with zero gap? I prefer non-Flash solutions, but if nothing else works I'll use Flash.
I'am making a advanced mp3 player arund this tutorial: [URL] and i want the users of the player to see how long they have listen or how long time back of the song. i have the AS i what to use but i cant connect them. becuase the tutorial i used does not make a sound objekt (MUSIC)
I'm trying to play a 10 minute long video (h264/mp4) which is 39MB in size, after I call stream.play(fileURL) it doesn't start playback until its loaded around 12-16MB of the file (many many seconds later), I finally get onMetaData at this point too. Why doesn't it begin playback right away, or at least w/in a couple seconds? What can cause this bloated lead in time?
