IDE :: Windows Application Built With Flash Function While Other Apps Running?

Is it possible to build an application in flash that can then be exported as say an exe and then be used in the background while another application is running? I know that sounds complicated so let me further explain. I currently dj with an application and would like to create another application with flash that allows users to play some custom sounds (drops) while running the primary dj application. I believe someone out there already has created an application via flash that does this (have to read up on it more). But from the research I did do there is no way to interface with the flash application unless you alt-tab to it. Is there someone way to build a flash application that can be assigned windows shortcuts (say f1 funuctionality) while another windows application is running?

I'm considering using Flash as the UI of a native Windows app, for several reasons, but before I dive in and start building, I figured I'd poll the community to find out whether anyone's got any good examples of this particular approach out there today, just to prove the concept satisfactorily. So I guess that's pretty much the question: Anyone built one specifically? Or better, anyone know of an app in relatively wide distribution that demonstrates the viability of this approach?

I'm looking for Google Adsense alternatives for a long-running Flash/Silverlight applications. It doesn't necessarily need to be hosted directly in Flash/Silverlight (although this would be sweet) but I cannot use Google Adsense because:a) by default Google Adsense requires ads to be opened in the same browser window which involves navigating away from the page with the application. Since the application is relatively self-contained entity (a kind of an image editor) closing it is not acceptable behaviour. Altering this behaviour in Google Adsense will breach its Terms and Conditions.b) Pages are not reloaded often. Once the user starts using Flash/Silverlight application she/he will stay on the same page for a relatively long period of time. It would be nice if an advertising component be able to automatically reload its content every few minutes.

I'm new at AS3. I'm pretty good when it comes to PHP, MySQL or HTML but I'm totally lost in AS.I have a project in Flash Builder 4 that I'm trying to add something to that was built in Flash Professional. It's supposed to loas a couple of external AS files, then execute functions from them at a certain point in the application. I know where I want the functions to execute in the application, and I have linked the AS files to "test.as" which is the main AS file for "testapp.mxml". The problem is calling the "Detector" function from inside "FaceDetector.as" which is one of the external AS files. What is the best way to do the following.[code]I want to start the script and let it do what it's supposed to do inside the application at that given time.

I want adobe sockets to send "customized" class object to a server socket(WinSock2). I used socket.writeObject(myClassObj). Actually My flash application and windows application works for string buffer but not for object.

I have a flex application (.swf) and want to create a projector file. When I choose File-> create projector I get the .app file because I work on a Mac. I know I can create both projector formats for windows and mac using the export feature in Flash Professional. But this is not an option since it's Flex.Is there any other way rather than switching to windows to create the file?

I'm trying to call an function in flash from xml. so I used <a> tag and asfunction. But how come when it calls a built-in function in flash, it works. and when it calls a custom function, it just won't work???

I'm packiging AIR app both on Mac and on Windows. On Mac everything goes well, but on Windows I get an error.
Myapp-app.xml: error 102: Invalid namespace [URL]
I have latest SDK's installed on both machines, although Flash Builder is newer on Mac. Does the Flash Builder version even matter?

I'm trying to develop a simple mxml Flex application to start Skype from the AIR/Flashplayer runtime. Is it possible to get back events from a native Windows application? In the simple example of Skype, the OS returns control to the Flex app when Skype exits. But what about native applications which have their own event model and wants to communicate with the Flex event model. For example, a Face detection system which shows "Hello" on a Flex app when the camera detects a face. Can this be done in the current Flex framework?

We're interested in putting one of our flash applications on the server back-end so that it can run as a module on the server machine (not on the client!). I know flash wasnt designed for this at all, so my question is:
1) Can I run Flash from the command prompt and pass parameters to it?
2) Can I detect when the Flash has finished running, or a way to communicate with the command prompt from Flash (to inform it once the operations has finished).
3) Can I close the flash application from the command prompt?

I have noticed this bug when developing my flash application on a windows platform. If typing text in to a text box in a Flash swf running in Safari 5 browser on Windows then press backspace the browser will jump to the previous page in history rather than performing the function that backspace is supposed to - here is a link to another report of this apple bug.URL...

When i run it in Flash Builder (debug mode) the remote object called successfully. but whenever i build the application (AIR application), then the remote object will return no result nor fault, the busy cursor is showing about 3 seconds. then no clue at all. how to get advance fault or something than regular fault event or result event? or anyone have the same experience?
UPDATE: Actually it was failed only for ONE service method, for other method (some of them took longer time to call) the service call is work fine. CASE SOLVED So the problem was not on the service call, but on my result conversion that cause the advanced datagrid failed to render.

I have an AIR application with a system tray icon. When clicked it shows and activates the app. This is working as expected when the app is hidden (docked), however if I select another application so my app is in the background clicking on the system tray icon does nothing.
Oddly I also have a contextual menu on the system tray icon, which has an option to restore, this calls the same event handler as ScreenMouseEvent.CLICK, yet works.
I expect it's something to do with the contextual menu changing the focus, perhaps it's a bug in how AIR works with the system tray, perhaps it's just something I'm missing. Would be good to know if that's the case.

I just updated my AIR runtime to 3.0 and noticed that my AIR application doesn't work anymore. So I tried to debug it it with Flash Builder, but when I run it there, everything works just fine. So I uninstalled the AIR runtime completely but noticed that I can execute my AIR app within Flash Builder still just fine. So the AIR runtime used within Flash Builder seems to be a different one than the systemwide installed AIR runtime. How Do I chose within Flash Builder which runtime to use and how do I update this runtime?

Some of my Flash application components require to intercept Ctrl + F4 keyboard events. Unfortunately, the KeyboardEvent is not caught when running the app under IE since it is conflicting with the IE native shortcut (closing the active tab). Is there a way (ideally relying on Flash principles) to intercept such keystrokes?

i'm trying to connect my flash application to my nodejs server running socket.io. To connect via web-browser is no problem. Now the problem, when the socket-server isn't running i get an IOError in Flash what seams alright. Now when i start the server and try to connect again, i don't get an error, but the socket-server doesn't receive a connection either?!
