IDE :: Preventing Flash Player Caching

Sep 8, 2009

edit: Resolved; my ActionScript function for parsing the mySQL results didn't correctly interpret a recently modified column, and the corrupted new output happened to be identical to the old output.

I have created an application that accesses a PHP/mySQL database, but it caches old information.

I used the workaround from Adobe's website, where I append '+ new Date().getTime()' to the URLRequest String, but the application continues to use the old data.

When I trace the URLRequest String and C&P it into a browser window, however, I receive the correct data.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Preventing Caching Of Loaded Txt And Xml Files?

Apr 24, 2005

I'm having trouble with my text and xml files seeming to be cached. They are altered by a php script called from flash, and this overwrites the text files correctly, but when they are reloaded into flash (eg. when the page is refreshed) the old data is still being used.I was reading this article and was interested in this line:

Code:
input_xml.load(xml_file + "?uniq=" + new Date().getTime());

could someone please explain why this would work, and whether this would prevent the problem that I'm having. I'm presuming that this unique number is never used in any way, it just forces the new file to be loaded, but I'm just a bit unsure why.

Flash :: Flex 3 And Player Caching?

May 7, 2010

i pass text strings from a configuration file into my Flex app, one of the strings i pass in is a mailto link which i use to allow users of my app to send me feedback. I recently needed to change this link however when i updated the link in my config file the change did not happen instantly in my Flex app. In fact i had to clear my cache (both browser and flash player) before the change showed up. This of course is fine for me but how can i be sure that users of the application also get the updated content? Is there a way to force a refresh of data loaded into my swf on other users browsers?

Finally is this an issue with my browser cache or the Flash player cache? Does the flash player only keep such data, like my email address, in memory while the app is in use and then clear once it is closed or does it cache this data for the next time the user wants to use the app?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Click On Another Greeting The Original Greeting Still Plays In Ie - Swf Caching Or XML Caching?

Dec 30, 2009

I have this PHP page that lists several people. When someone clicks on one of the people they are sent to another PHP page that has their video greeting in a .swf embedded into the page. This works by the php writing the path to the greeting video to the xml file that the .swf loads and plays.

Well in firefox it works perfect, but in IE when they try to click on another greeting the original greeting still plays. Its like the swf is caching the first greeting and refresh of the page does nothing to alleviate this. Is this a problem with the swf caching? or XML caching? or am I totally clueless?

Flash :: TLF Text Is Preventing OnMouseOver Event?

Jul 8, 2011

Basically I have some TLF text as a symbol, it's read only, the font is embedded and I set mouseEnabled to false. It's sitting as a graphic, on top of a button. When I mouse over the text, or the area where the text would be, it prevents the button from receiving the on mouse over event. Using classic, dynamic text, this route normally works just fine. Any ideas what could be causing the problem?

Professional :: Preventing Remote Url File Reads In Flash?

Oct 29, 2010

We have a Flash application provided by a vendor. It reads its parameters from an xml file on our web server's file system. However, it can also be spoofed to read its parameters from an xml file sitting on another domain's web server. At first we thought crossdomain.xml might be able to fix this, but we've researched it and understand the purpose of crossdomain.xml. It won't solve this issue. Are there any ways of enforcing that a Flash application reads its input file only from the same server where the Flash application was served? Or is the recommendation just to initialize variables within the Flash app, not relying on an external file.

Flash :: Preventing A Swf From Invoking ExternalInterface Calls Without Recompiling It?

Apr 16, 2011

I'm working with a third party swf that I cannot change and am charged with making it work in a local environment, loaded within a container application I have built. The SWF was published for accessing the network sandbox, so whenever it invokes the ExternalInterface in a local html container, it throws a security sandbox error and kills execution. The ExternalInterface calls are all non-critical (logging) so if I can block them somehow, then I won't have a problem any more.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Preventing TextField From Getting Mouse Attention?

I want to have a Sprite with an child TextField, but without the textfield triggering or preventing any mouseover events from its parent.

An example would be a world map where each country has a label with its name. For smaller countries, the label would naturally exceed the country's borders. However, the label should not get in the way of mousing over whatever is beneath it (i.e. neighbouring countries).

I assume this can be fixed with a change to the .htaccess but I do not know how flash handles these links.

Flash - Flex 3: Preventing Keyboard Events From Reaching A Sprite?

Feb 9, 2012

I'm working on a Flex 3 app, implemented in Actionscript 3 and MXML, that includes an embedded video player, which is essentially a black box--I load it as a SWF from another site on demand, and I don't have access to its source code. It does, however, inherit from Sprite. The problem is that, when focus is on the Flash app, the video player is somehow receiving and processing keyboard events, even when the player itself isn't in focus. So when users are typing text elsewhere in the GUI, if they hit the space bar, the video pauses.

I've tried intercepting key events in the Sprite's parent, and setting tabEnabled = false, tabChildren = false, and buttonMode = false on the Sprite, but nothing seems to work. It's as if the Sprite is getting keystrokes through an alternate Event path.how I can prevent the player from receiving keyboard events or input events entirely? It's fine with me if no input events reach the player, since I've implemented my own, separate video controls.

I started looking at my trace results and suddenly discovered that it outputted code that was not in my sourcefile anymore.

To solve it, I renamed all AS files and then everything worked fine again.

Flash Seems To Be Caching Crossdomain.xml File?

Oct 27, 2010

I have updated the crossdomain.xml security settings for my site - but it seems that the older version is being cached in both IE and Chrome.I've checked the headers sent by the server and it's not sending any cache control headers that would be forcing the browsers to be caching crossdomain.xml.

In an attempt to get around the issue I've also linked to my crossdomain.xml file in an iframe on the site. This hasn't worked though and flash still seems to be using the old security settings.

It works fine, with one flaw, it gets cached often, so when we release a new version we are usually needing to tell the customers to clear their cache when they experience issues. My question is, how could I force the .swf to break cache when I release a new version? Something like:

/public/bin/editor/Editor.swf?timestamp=124158512132

I tried the above, but it did not seem to work.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Possible To Prevent Flash From Caching?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Browser Caching In Flash

I have a Flash file that is linked to 14 xml files using the E4X method. To keep the network activity to a minimum, I have it set up so that the xml files don't load until the relevant button is clicked (rather than have them all load at the beginning). I've been told I could further reduce network activity by using something called browser caching. There seem to be methods called "conditional HTTP" and "304 caching" but I can't really find a coherent tutorial on how to add this to the code.

Flex :: Preventing Cross Site Scripting Attack On Flash Container Pages

The website just consists of one page which contains the flash file for the flex application. The source code of this page is here: [URL]

I have been advised (by a software program used by my client) that this website is vulnerable to a reflective type XSS attack and have been advised to 'sanitize' all user input.

respect to XSS and would respectfully like to ask that AFAIK there is no user input. What should I sanitize and how?

However, I would like the loader to also load the remaining movies needed to further navigate the site, but without displaying them now  Kind of like 'caching' the rest of the site, so when the access is needed, there's no load time.
